San Diegans on bringing in the feds
I formerly joked that George W. Bush was the greatest mind in the Republican Party, I once thought he won his job through family connections. Now I see that, compared to todays Republican candidates, W; possesses a great Republican mind.— October 22, 2011 2:47 p.m.
San Diegans on bringing in the feds
The early 2009 stimulus bill contained infrastructure spending, but not enough if we look in hindsight. We should remember that it's the largest jobs bill ever passed. Many thought it would cause excess inflation. I would blame Congress for the inept handling of the Health Care Bill, the result was an improvement on the present disaster, but the way it was passed made obvious that the insurance companies wrote most of the bill. The Congress seems broken, unable to pass anything to fix these problems. Government hiring eases unemployment. This is fact.— October 14, 2011 12:51 a.m.
San Diegans on bringing in the feds
I don't find any logic, let alone facts, behind those who claim that government hiring doesn't reduce unemployment right now. The unemployed should be hired, if business won't do this, government should. Right now state and local governments are firing tens of thousands every month, more than the Federal Government is hiring. i have heard this strange theory, that the government can"t help by hiring, repeated many times, I would like to hear the logic behind this, if there is any.— October 13, 2011 4:47 p.m.
Kessler Case May Be Headed for Settlement
I wouldn't call these perps stupid, but they might be too proud to settle. Sanders is a sociopath certainly, but he seems convinced of his righteousness, ditto Dumanis. I hope that Scott Kessler fights. In the long run the City will save money if this corruption is exposed, even if it costs the taxpayers eight figures.— October 9, 2011 10:02 p.m.
Reaction to Gibson Guitar Raids
The rain forests belong to the whole world. I endorse all efforts to protect them. Martin refused to buy the same Madagascar wood Gibson bought from poachers. Gibson should be ashamed.— October 7, 2011 5:15 p.m.
Steve Jobs Died
Apple might be overpriced, like Edison's RCA in 1929, but that doesn't mean the company won't grow. Burwell's lament has merit up to the Chinese engineer comment. Chinese engineers are just a green card away from being American engineers. China will have to build a more livable society, if it wishes to lead intellectually. If a Steve Jobs was born in China, he would have to move to California to start Apple, this is where the crazy smart people live,— October 6, 2011 2:16 p.m.
Steve Jobs Died
So energetic, so enthusiastic, so charismatic, so American.— October 5, 2011 6:55 p.m.
"Lady Catarina" Goes to Trial Tomorrow
Feed the horses so the sparrows can eat.— September 21, 2011 5:15 p.m.
Conventions, Football Don’t Mix
Building a stadium downtown will not make more convention space if we tear down our present Stadium, which could do all the proposed events. The current Stadium hosts many events in it's parking lot that couldn't be held downtown. I would guess that a conventioneer would prefer a fifteen minute bus ride to scenic Mission Valley, to a ten block walk through the homeless displaced by downtown development, unless the super hero costume has gone to their head.— September 16, 2011 12:41 p.m.
Power Outage Cost Local Economy $100 Million
When I took my nightly walk through the heart of PB during the blackout, everyone was in a great mood. Everyone left the computer and television, and met their neighbors for a barbecue. The police were parked at the local shopping center with nothing to do. We should do this more often.— September 12, 2011 4:09 p.m.
