Frank Zappa Would Have Been 71 Today - Viva La Bizarre!
Well done. You sent me rummaging through old vinyl. The Varese record mentioned is very rare with numbered copies, i have #156. Anyone wishing to know Zappa's influences should check out Varese and the Dadaists http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dada For some of us Zappa was never strange, but a natural reaction to a weird conformist culture. We miss him.— December 23, 2011 3:06 p.m.
Che Cafe Three Day Benefit - No Age, HEALTH, XBXRX
It was the Che Cafe in 1972, perhaps earlier.— December 23, 2011 1 p.m.
Failure to Extend Payroll Tax Break, Jobless Pay Could Hurt, Says Economist
Unfairness makes a great rallying cry, but causes problems only indirectly. The poor worldwide need money to buy needed "surpluses". Recognizing the lack of money, the central banks have responded by lending money to the rich in huge amounts at cheap rates, but the rich just hold the money. Lending won't do the trick. The payroll tax cuts and infrastructure projects are steps in the right direction, but face formidable political obstacles. The ignorant demand that every billion be "paid for". Meanwhile trillions in lending is pumped out willy nilly to cheers all around. The good news is that the crisis is partly caused by increased world wide producing power, when that is matched with increased spending power, we should be better than ever.— December 23, 2011 12:31 p.m.
Failure to Extend Payroll Tax Break, Jobless Pay Could Hurt, Says Economist
Overpaid government workers and under taxed billionaires may be central culprits in our government deficits, but our world wide problems aren't caused by US deficits RIGHT NOW. Our problem now is a collapse in demand, and the farcically overcompensated can help out by buying surplus inventory. Prison guards can buy the rural inventory of housing for example. Prisons are usually located in depressed areas, because only desperate towns want that sort of business, even at the high pay. The problem is the middle class worldwide is too poor to spend the factories into full production, or to buy the housing surplus.— December 23, 2011 12:39 a.m.
Celia St Croix Digs Bar Eleven
Celia's latest work far outshines her EP, but check it out anyway; http://www.reverbnation.com/celiastcroix If possible see her with Katie Dwyer, performing Katie's songs and her own. She also rocks out with Psycholizard upon occasion.— December 21, 2011 8 p.m.
Do Manchester, Lynch Read Economic News?
Today's crooks make me miss C. Arnholt Smith. He may have plundered city land for sweetheart deals, such as the Stadium and Fashion Valley, but the city didn't go out of pocket, and the development wasn't an ugly flop. With the Ballpark, Liberty Station, Manchester's planned row of skyscrapers and the proposed Stadium at Crack Central, the City bankrupts itself for idiotic projects that aren't worth the sunlight they block. C. Arnholt swindled the City, but he didn't bankrupt it. When i think of the chicanery since then, and how typical he was, perhaps he earned the title Mr. San Diego.— December 21, 2011 12:09 a.m.
How For-Profit College Lobbyists Bought Congress
The FDIC is important to every bank, one can"t do business without touching it. Honestly, I would prefer to replace Feinstein with someone trustworthy on matters of war and peace, but the article is unsubtle propaganda, building a smear on coincidence, and placing it underneath a picture of Obama. As the Gingrich slouches towards Bethlehem to be born, we should stop pretending that Democratic corruption equals Republican corruption. We need to stand together or the country will be run by a depraved sociopath, who loves war.— December 14, 2011 4:59 p.m.
How For-Profit College Lobbyists Bought Congress
The Washington Times Feinstein hit piece reveals more about Republican smear tactics than government corruption. The picture of Obama tells the motivation of the Moonie rag, not to reveal corruption but to smear their way to Republican resurgence. Bush was running things when the alleged fraud occurred, and if there was collusion, it must have been with unnamed Republican help. Before alleging conspiracy one should be willing to name two people. The deals don't seem that sweet either, given that property hasn't sold well, and the firm was required to do maintenance. A followup article now, two and a half years later, detailing the profits, and specifying how the deal went down, could change my my mind. When Republicans can't come up with better scandals than this, or the birth certificate idiocy, they suggest that my Democrats are completely honest. This is not so. DO YOUR DUTY REPUBLICANS, FIND A REAL DEMOCRATIC SCANDAL.— December 14, 2011 10:33 a.m.
Council to Consider Kessler Settlement
Scott Kessler stood up, fought City Hall and won. I congratulate him. Perhaps he should forget this and move on. But the rest of the city shouldn't forget. These development agencies should be abolished.— November 16, 2011 6:55 p.m.
Not Open-Mouth
All hail the Happy Man's 1500th. If someone somehow missed all those shows, expect rough voiced funny songs for adults. Happy sings his own songs, his own way, so be ready for a unique show.— November 16, 2011 5:25 p.m.
