CNBC Features Tom Gores, Mike Aguirre -- Separately
It just got worse. The political cartoons are gone.— June 21, 2009 7:32 a.m.
Top 10 -- Famous Dead People You'd Like to Meet
A party with: Coco Chanel - could dress us for it Julia Child - could cook for it Hunter S. Thompson - could write a story about it Kurt Cobain - could sing about it Freud - could analyze it Sylvia Plath - could wax poetic about it Stanley Kubrick - could make a movie about it John Belushi - could star in the movie about it Johnny Carson - could talk on "The Tonight Show" about it and Jesus Christ - but what would he do?!?— June 20, 2009 2:36 p.m.
Breaking the Law, Breaking the Law (when it's students)
Darling, I am taking a deep breath. You have expounded on how a crime is a crime is a crime. Suddenly you have a change of heart when it comes to educated criminals?— June 18, 2009 7:26 p.m.

Blah, blah, blah. I've said this before and I'll say it again. It is a woman's inherent right to change her mind. Beside, I enjoy the Reader blogs. Okay, here we go. She panned The Red Sails in Point Loma a couple of years ago. This upset the owners and its patrons so much that I think it actually increased business, which is a good thing. But anyone who knows Point Loma knows The Red Sails is a local, casual dining establishment that is not known for really fine dining, but for a nice meal with your local folks who have been coming there for years. Yes, I understand it is her job to critique the food. She slammed them with a vengeance. Pretension is the perfect word for someone who moves around in a world she cannot necessarily afford, but gets paid to. Her salacious reviews of restaurants in affluent areas does not apply in Point Loma. We had a dearth of restaurants here, with the exception of the fabulous Roseville, and now Liberty Station, with its assortment of choices. Not fine dining, but better than before. I am not taking into consideration Ocean Beach, with Thee Bungalow, Third Corner, and The Kaiserhoff. These are all wonderful eating establishments with a loyal clientele. But they are on the other side of the hill. I live right in the middle of the Peninsula, but you would be shocked at how many people go to one side or the other. Living in a microcosm makes you lazy. She has to understand the culture of a community before passing harsh judgement. Food is not the only reason folks go to certain restaurants.— June 18, 2009 7:14 p.m.

Judging by your sympathy toward these so-called innocent victims of the man and your previous posts, I am assuming these poor babies are white. Had they been black, I believe your opinion would be very different. Are you insane? You have completely contradicted yourself. "Not a single kid was hurt"?!? WTF? They most certainly could have been! And the kid that hit and killed a child and then took off? "But, this poor student is not only going to have to live with that the rest of his life...he had a month left before graduating. And instead, he got more time in jail then Stallworth will, when he did something that WAS his fault." Tell me how a hit and run is not his fault???! Please explain this. I'm stunned at your stupidity. Why do your sympathies lie with a poor student having to "live with that the rest of his life"? He killed a kid and took off!— June 18, 2009 7:36 a.m.

I agree about Naomi Wise being extremely unWISE in her choice of using one of your clients in her negative review. The only thing that should be "canned" is her ass. I've stopped reading her pretentious reviews.— June 18, 2009 7:23 a.m.
Conspiracy Theories
One night a couple of years ago I went out my door on my way to a party one block away. I happened to look up and I saw seven or eight "flying saucers" going back and forth in an erratic pattern that was not consistent with normal flight. I flipped! I called my friends whose house I was on the way so they could look outside and see what I was seeing, and all of a sudden they slowly faded out. Dimmer, dimmer, black. I honestly thought I was hallucinating or we were being invaded. I told my story when I got there, everyone had a good laugh, and all I could think was "I saw something". The next day I searched for something on the web that would explain what I saw. Come to find out, a few people had seen it and were equally as freaked out. It was a paratrooper exercise, but if you had seen it, you would have thought we were being invaded!! I literally stopped in my tracks and thought "holy s***, they have finally come and we are dead!" and I am a rational person who does not draw conclusions easily. Think about the easily swayed. That would have been sufficient to run to the hills and stock up on essentials.— June 14, 2009 7:17 p.m.
Conspiracy Theories
Folks still go to Loch Ness to see old Nessie even though she has been exposed as a fake. It's folklore. Some people want to believe against all rational evidence otherwise that certain things happened the way they want them to. It gives a sense of control to an irrational and sometimes paranoid, misguided mindset. My first exposure to a "conspiracy theory" was when I was nine. My mom took us to see Executive Action. It was the original conspiracy theory movie about the assassination of JFK. I remember being very confused because we had been taught one thing and this proposed a government that conspired to kill its own President. It scared the crap out of me. See, we never really know for sure, because we are presented with alternative options for why things happened that do make us go "hmmm". Wacky stuff aside, like the Holocaust never happened, will we ever know what really happened? All mysteries are just that, and until you have concrete evidence to prove that something occurred the way we are told it did, there will always be the shadow of a doubt.— June 14, 2009 4:03 p.m.

Talk to me! Actually, I am consulting with Tiki World or whatever that place is down by the Sports Arena. They are Tiki central. And it would never work between us. I am a morning person, and you, obviously are a night owl.— June 14, 2009 3:38 p.m.
Death in a Small Town
It was an exercise. We were given exactly 10 minutes to get to know another person in our class and write a story about them. The other person had to write about me as well. At first Carrie was so shy I could barely get her to speak. Funny thing is, after this exercise, she never came to class again. I think she was so scared that attention would be focused on her when we discussed our stories the next week that she decided it would be less stressful to just not show up. I know that feeling well. I would rather die than speak in public. I've gotten much better, but it is a difficult fear to overcome.— June 14, 2009 7:18 a.m.
