Changeling
Far, far from a dud, this is Clint Eastwood's second-best film, in my opinion; and the advantage of Mystic River is only in the deeper acting skills among the cast. The crime story only lacked the killer's motive, and Eastwood got a supurb performance here. The police cover-up story realistically (I have friends that verified this) showed how the legitimate complaints of women led to inhumane confinement and "treatment" by barbarians disguised as doctors. Ms Jolie and Mr Malkovich worked well, cast against type. And the story made me feel for the crime victims, and cheer for Walter's present-mindedness in saving other boys. *****— November 5, 2008 8:26 p.m.
Miracle at St. Anna
"Spike Lee, redundantly setting the record straight about black participation in the Second World War..." After reading other reviews and comments nationally, I'm not sure this is so. Can one or more of you out there clue me in on who else has covered this subject?— October 26, 2008 6:22 p.m.
San Diego tourism weakens
I'm shocked, shocked that there's crooks on Wall Street (yes, I've seen Casablanca a zillion times).— October 26, 2008 6:15 p.m.
Body of Lies
This is an above-average film that delivers lessons about a region we as Americans are still woefully ignorant about; and with an election coming up, that is a big shame. Maybe this film should have been titled "Why We Fight." All the players are so much into the operation, save DiCaprio, who backs off when he gets wise at a refugee camp. This is more important than the Coens rehashing themes of human folly. Putting up with the action-film aspect is something I will easily deal with. ****— October 20, 2008 5:28 a.m.
Liquidity Flood Is Not Getting Stock Market Drunk. One Reason Is Fear of Banking System Insolvency
Don, I'm one year older than Senator Obama, and the cash is in FDIC-insured savings accounts and a CD. Right now, better to sleep well than eat well.— October 11, 2008 4:09 p.m.

Liquidity Flood Is Not Getting Stock Market Drunk. One Reason Is Fear of Banking System Insolvency
Whatever happens I'm glad to have been through a few bear markets/recessions; it helps me filter all the news. What would the credit card ads say about that? "Experience: priceless."— October 9, 2008 2:25 p.m.

For First Time in Ten Years, Consumers Pay Off Debt. This Will Probably Result in Contraction, but Is Actually Positive

Miracle at St. Anna
Anti-Hollywood knocking is as useless as Hollywood boosting. Do better than one paragraph of boilerplate, or don't bother at all.— October 8, 2008 6:22 a.m.
