Weird Police, Weird DUI

Yet one more reason i don't drink alcohol... i am a white girl (yes, Jewish, but still white) who was accosted in junior high right here in beautiful San Diego by a black girl in the locker room because i accidentally bumped into her while we were playing some sort of flag football game in P.E. class. Now don't get all "ooh, chicks in the locker room fantasy" on me... i was new in town, had just moved here a month before from suburban Chicago where i had a girl friend who was black, but also Jewish since her Mom was a Jew who married a black guy. But MY mother was a teacher and had been teaching for years and years, on the south side of Chicago... and even if you don't know the Jim Croce song, it's not a place where there are many white folk... but i had been to her school many times when i was a kid, and the black kids LOVED her, and they took to me as well. Anyway, i digress, sorry... So all the way back to the locker room from our P.E. class the girl, a whole lot taller and bigger than i, was threatening to kick my white ass (and i am usually pretty tan, but yeah, my ass is white, this is true) and i was kind of scared but what could i do? i didn't mean to hit her any differently than anyone else was hitting anyone else... i mean we all were smashing into each other. Flag Football! HELLO!! i kept telling her that i was sorry, that i didn't mean to hurt her (if i even did!!)... i kept saying to myself, "I am going to die today!" but didn't let on... i have always been compassionate (almost vegan), non-violent (unless someone gets violent with me first, then that's up for grabs), open (believe in same-sex being OK and all that) and pride myself on lacking a lot of the prejudice that is so rampant in this world. i recall the school itself, a middle school in the eastern part of San Diego, was a mix of white, black, Mexican and probably a few Vietnamese (this was in 1979)... So in the locker room, she cornered me, and of course, all the girls in class, maybe 20 or so, gathered around. And of course the "locker room lady" (insert snarky comment here) was nowhere to be found! i looked at her, looked around at the mob scene at the lockers, and said, "Go ahead, kick my ass. Do it. i can't stop you." And i waited. Waited for that first blow. Everyone was. They egged her on. i looked at her right in the eyes. And you know what? No punch. No hit. No kick. The ass kicking never came. She actually backed down. And you know what else? Latesha actually became my friend. Friend. So there you have it.
