Good News: SDCERS Discussing Lowering Interest Rate on DROP Account
Hey can any of you tell us the status of the Mayor's declaratory relief action? I believe its been more than a year since the litigation was filed with the Courts regarding the pension question(s)? So what's status? What about Mr. Aguirre's pension appeals? In the past BillyB/JohnnyV says it’s not over until all appeals are exhausted, but what happens when or if we get a new City Attorney. Can he unilaterally end it? All this banter back and forth is informative in some ways, (I appreciate some of the linked documents) and sometimes I find it entertaining nothing will really change until the courts have their chance to weigh in....SO I just wondering if any movement has been made. Anyone, Bueller, Bueller???— October 24, 2008 8:12 a.m.
Game of the Week: Cathedral Catholic at Otay Ranch
Friday night lights out for the Otay Ranch Mustangs as the Cathedral DONS corralled the high powered Mustang offense 42-14. Led by Senior Quarterback Parker Hipp, the DONS scored quickly taking a 14-0 lead on two touchdown passes to Senior Brad Harrington. Harrington who was cleared to play moments before tonight’s game after suffering a broken nose earlier in the week. DONS balanced their run and gun offense behind the power of senior running back Tyler Gaffney scored repeatedly. Of note was an 80 yard romp to lead off the second half. The Mustang offense was stymied most of game, but gained some traction on turnovers. Cathedral continues its march toward perfection this season.— October 5, 2008 9:21 a.m.
Week 5 High Five

Week 5 High Five
Cathedrals first "real" test of the season comes this Friday night against Otay Ranch. Although outside of its Division, Cathedral's potent but balanced offense will test Otay's defense. Meanwhile, the Cathedral Defensive unit has held previous opponents this to two or fewer touchdowns this season. It's time for Cathedral's Head Coach, Sean Doyle, to pull some tricks out his playbook.— September 30, 2008 8:19 a.m.
Game of the Week: Point Loma at Cathedral Catholic
Saturday night football, that's what I thought I was going to see. A rematch between last year's Eastern and Western Leagues Champs to see if Cathedral was as tough as last year’s lopsided victory indicated. Well, while there were two high school football teams on the field last night, these were not the teams who battled in Qualcomm Stadium last year. NO, these teams, for whatever reason don't like each other and it started with unsportsmanlike play right from the opening kickoff. Yes it's true the final score of 42-10 shows Cathedral has power, (last year’s championship game final score was 41-3) but where IS the poise? Both teams played poorly with several turnovers, mental errors and “cheap shots” that led to more yellow penalty flags than I’ve ever seen at a high school game. All for unsportsman like behavior. In the fourth quarter, late in the game, the head umpire was so upset verbal warnings to the Pointers could be heard in the stands. But don’t think the Cathedral kids were angels, their own coaches addressed the issue at halftime. But it must have fallen on deaf ears. At one point later in the fourth quarter, one official whistles frantically when the game clock was moving just to get the contest over faster. Let’s hope both head coaches address the issue of TRUE sportsmanship with their teams and since Cathedral has a bye this coming Friday, Coach Doyle and his staff have some extra time and the opportunity to instill some discipline and concept the of sportsmanship.— September 14, 2008 8:44 a.m.
High Five for Week 2

High Five for Week 2
With game day on Saturday, instead of Friday, Cathedral gets an extra day of rest before the rematch of last year's Division III Championship game. Last year the DONS dominated post season play culminating with a 41-3 win over the Pointers at Qualcomm Stadium. But last year's seniors are now fans and Cathedral has its work cut out. If last week's tune-up against Steele Canyon is an indicator, Head coach Sean Doyle and his assistants have this finely tuned machine firing on all eight cylinders. Now its up to seniors Parker HIPP to steer, and Tyler GAFFNEY to pour on the gas adding power to the Cathedral offense.— September 9, 2008 12:30 p.m.
Steele Canyon counting on experience
Steele Canyon may have been counting on experience, but Cathedral Catholic actually executed its gameplan and dominted the Cougars, evidenced by the half time lead of 42 to nothing. Led by the Senior QB Parker Hipp, the DONS opted to kickoff after winning the cointoss and never looked back.— September 6, 2008 6:25 a.m.
Steele Canyon counting on experience
Cathedral has 24 returning seniors this year. The offensive line should be tested Friday night which will in turn tell us if Senior running back Tyler Gaffney will be breaking loose often this season. Senior Parker Hipp takes over the quarterbacking duties and may be missed at tight end, we'll have to wait and see. Defensively linebacker Kyle Boyce who recovered a fumble for a touchdown in last year's DIV III Championship returns too. Sounds like both teams will be testing in their season opener.— September 4, 2008 9:46 a.m.
SEDC to be sued if not paying for outgoing prez' legal fees?
This story is STILL UNFOLDING. It's now been revealed the illegal bonuses are being used to calculate contributions into retirement accounts. This is in violation of City ordinances and Charter sections. When will the theivery of the City Treasury stop by those who are supposely in positions of management and trust. I'm just wondering where the fiduciary duty fits into the scheme of one of these hybrid non-profits? Is it to the "corporation" or the City taxpayer who are the deep pocket behind this non-profit?— September 3, 2008 9:17 a.m.
