Music and Metallica Fans -- Dumb or Smart?
Pete...I think there will always be a few "guilty pleasure" songs people like, and I don't think that's what they mean. You could like a certain rap song, or a few songs by Black Sabbath, but that doesn't mean you're a fan of that band (ie they would be considered your favorite band of all-time). Adam....you bring up a good point, that a fan of Judas Priest killed themself while listening to their music, but then Beatles fans in the 60s thought that Paul had died and been replaced with a lookalike (that sounded very similar, too; what a coincidence for the Fab Four!) And yes, there are probably smart people that listen to Lil Wayne, and dumb people that listen to Dylan (they just might not say it's because of the lyrics, but his great vocals). But I definitely think there's probably something to all this. If you were to take a thousand people leaving a Dylan concert, and compare their intelligence with a thousand people leaving a Lil Wayne concert....are you trying to tell me that all across the board, things will be equal? Some dumb people, some smart people, some average people? Sorry, but it won't happen in the same kind of numbers. My reason for guessing this? Well, when the news crews go do a story outside the venue (of both that I listed), one has fans jumping around behind the camera acting goofy, or running up to the reporter yelling crap into the microphone. The other group of fans consists of people merely walking by, not paying much attention to the reporter, unless stopped and asked to comment. Again, that's the most unscientific research ever. I'm just sayin'— October 20, 2009 9:07 a.m.
Crazy Costumes -- Target Targeted, Illegal Aliens Offended
The weird thing about it is...who said the illegal alien was Mexican? It was an alien head! In an orange jumpsuit. Target had issued a statement that it was supposed to only be available online. But I think they yanked it from there as well. My girlfriend and I are going as Jon and Kate Gossling. I wonder if they'll still be in the news in a few weeks. But, it's a shame we already ordered the Kate wig. Because, the balloon boy would've been fun to do.— October 19, 2009 1:32 a.m.
Judge Idiot -- Won't Let Interracial Couples Marry
Very good point, Illyd.— October 18, 2009 12:41 p.m.
Friends Are Like Jewels
Well...you know what happens? You got the flip camera going, and you're walking by people. So as crazy as it sounds, I catch myself off guard. I want to say something to the people, other than just filming them like I'm a zombie with a camera. So, you wear a Raiders shirt, I say the Raiders suck. I mention Jarmacus Russell or Ken Stabler. I see a Beatles shirt, I made say "Ob la di, ob la da." And I think about it a few minutes later, and it's not really funny (or heck, even all that entertaining sometimes).— October 17, 2009 11:50 a.m.
Up, Up and Away...in a silver balloon
That's why I wished Idiocracy was a better movie. It was such a great premise. Yeah, this family tried pitching a reality show about themselves to TBS previously, and were turned down. Also heard today, that a 911 call came in from their house. They showed up, the guy was screaming. The woman had what looked like a punch mark on her face. She claimed to have injured her eye putting on a contact lens, which is a new one.— October 17, 2009 1:47 a.m.
Prince in Nigeria
Can you combine the two, and chew the patch as if it were gum? I'm not "addicted" to cigars. I just like them. And, I usually smoke one a week, just to keep myself in check.— October 17, 2009 1:44 a.m.
Up, Up and Away...in a silver balloon
This just in: They say this family actually contacted the media FIRST, before calling polie or 911, to report that they "thought" their child was in the balloon. I swear, if this family makes money off this, and isn't charged for anything...our society is idiotic. We have no one to blame but ourselves.— October 16, 2009 9:40 a.m.
Up, Up and Away...in a silver balloon
Thank you, amy. I totally agree. I said the same thing about the 10-year-old...that the parents should be charged. The police are now saying that they won't charge the family for any of the rescue efforts. Yet, it's coming out...that the parents probably did plan all this, as the kid had a story in a CNN interview where he said "because you guys told me this was for a show." Then when the kid was questioned more, he got nervous and threw up. Jimmy Kimmel said last night that they had mutual friends, and that friend said this guy told Kimmel if he gave him $25,000 he'd put his name on a rocket and send it out to space. Kimmel laughed and said "I should've talked him down to $5,000." He also showed clips of that 6-year-old kid, calling him mom a "dumb a**". He then said "Now I'm starting to see why the kid would want to climb on a balloon and escape from them!"— October 16, 2009 9:14 a.m.
Something Done
Mafioso was an interesting film. A Serious Man has it's moments. The characters are interesting. But it was very disappointing. It was better than the horrible Coen Bro films The Man Who Wasn't There or Intolerable Cruelty. A comedy that wasn't funny, just silly. Duncan is correct, the 3 different rabbis, none of which help him with their 3 different stories...great fun (and yeah, that was Michael Lerner, at least according to the person with me). It was great seeing Richard Kind and Adam Arkin. The opening was perhaps the worst opening in a movie I've seen in probably a decade. And by the end of the picture, I just wondered why this wasn't the classic film it really could've been.— October 16, 2009 12:45 a.m.
Up, Up and Away...in a silver balloon
Yeah, someone posted that on Facebook. 12 Monkeys was such a great film.— October 16, 2009 12:19 a.m.
