Weird Police, Weird DUI

Now that's more like it, arin. You're starting to come around. I was driving to a meeting tonight, and I gave it some serious thought...as whether I've ever used ANY racial or ethnic slur. And one did come to mind. I had this old Jewish mechanic, that was a friend of my stepfather. He worked on all our cars, and he charged us handsomely as well. He lived a few houses down from us. And he always said "I'm cheaper than the mechanic you'll find in town." But he was only slightly cheaper. And, if something went wrong, what could you do? Anyhooo...he always did annoying things. One time, I told him I'd go to the bank and take the money out of my saving account to pay him. He said I needed to leave the car with him until I came back with the money. I was a 17-year-old, who lived a few houses away, who he had known for years. Yet I had to have a friend come to my house, take me to my bank, and then back to him. He did stuff like that all the time. Well, one time I got a flat tire, and I found out the jack in my car didn't work. I called a friend, who also had a jack and lug nut wrench that wouldn't fit these tires. We drove over to Sid's and asked if we could borrow his wrench. He said, "If you leave a deposit of $20." I had six bucks on me, and this guy had $10. He almost wasn't going to take it as a deposit until I pleaded. Then he said "When you fix the tire, come back here immediately with my wrench." I said, "Sid, are you nuts? I'm already half way to Chula Vista. What's the point of driving back to Mira Mesa when I'm working down there and already an hour late? I'll bring it back tonight." He started screaming, that I couldn't borrow the wrench. So I agreed to his terms. When I brought the wrench back, I was so angry about this back-tracking, that I said "You know what? You're an old stupid k***!" It was priceless, watching the veins in his neck and head almost burst. He screamed, "What did you call me?! For you to say that to a Jew...that's the worst insult imaginable!" I added, "I'm embarassed that I'm Jewish, because K***'s like you give the rest of us a bad name." He called my stepdad and screamed at him. Luckily, he was on my side (but wished I had refrained from the slur). So, there you go. Keep rubbin' them nipples.

arin...you might be the worst person on the planet to debate. It's a mix of stupidity and stubberness with you. You find it THAT HARD to believe I've never used the n word? Really? Sorry to disappoint you, but I haven't. Aside from the basketball story I wrote earlier. Second, to get back to the previous debate...why is it WORSE for me to have a cavalier attitude towards people dying in stupid ways for making stupid decisions, yet it's NOT bad for you to claim you hate all white people? Do you realize, most would probably side with me on that? Even black folks. Because people deciding to parachute, or swim with sharks...or this cat in the newspaper this morning...he was hunting with his uncle, they got separated (somewhere in Alaska I believe) and a polar bear attacked him. He shot and killed it...but had they died, well...I have no problem with hunters. If they get off killing animals, oh well. That's their deal. I think it's odd, but I don't condemn them. But when they accidentally shoot each other, or a bear gets the best of them...I sometimes chuckle. That may be insensitive, but not nearly as bad as you making some declaration about an entire race! And, a race that you are surrounded by. And the funniest part is...you talk about these cops that always bug you because of your color. I'd be willing to bet, 90% of the time, it's because you've got the same attitude you have here on these boards. Cops don't take smack talk well, because they are usually carrying a chip on their shoulder and they don't need to.

Weird Police, Weird DUI

Wow. Where to begin. First, I don't get drunk. I have been tipsy a few times. Drunk a few times, in my life. I can count the times on one hand. I have driven tipsy. Not a smart thing to do, but I have no doubt I was driving fine or I wouldn't have. It's the same way some people are having a conversation while tipsy, and you can tell. Others, you can't. In regards to you saying that we should focus on the dumb things I've done...well, do you go on this same crusade when Chris Rock talks about dumb people? Do you track him down and say "Have you never done dumb things?" My point isn't that I'm as funny as Chris Rock, but I'm doing what he and other people do. I'm poking fun at things in the news. Letterman does it EVERY NIGHT, and has, since 1980. And look at everything he was involved in. Does that mean he should no longer do a nightly monologue? But back to your questions. NO. I have never, ever, called a black guy the "n word" Ever. And when I have friends that use the word, I tell them they sound like ignorant idiots. I even told a woman I was dating this, and it ended the relationship (the argument escalated). I had one time, playing basketball, where these African-Americans were c alling my friend a stupid white boy, and going on and on about us being white and "going back to our farm" and Brady Bunch, and all this. So, I scored a basket over one of the guys and as we were running down the court, I asked if if it was okay if I called him a "n*****". He threw me to the ground and was ready to kill me, as his friends held him back. I stood up and he said "That guy just called me a n****!" I smiled and said "No, I asked if I could call you that." Now, the entire crowd is turning on me. I try to explain to them, that there's no difference between them using racial slurs at us, and me at them. Of course, it was all on deaf (or should I say "def") ears. I'm just glad a fight didn't occur.

Caging Elephants and Catching Trains

Well, to answer your questions, no. I HAVE NEVER done anything stupid while on a cell phone driving (I know, someone could easily say that maybe I did and just didn't realize what the driver behind me had to avoid). I'll easily admit, I've done things in a car not paying attention: eating fast food and looking down for a french fry and swirving; I've been messing around with a CD and not paying attention. Once, even smoking a cigar, until I realized that it's insane to stink up my car for future passengers and have to empty my ashtray each day. BUT NEVER with a cell phone. I'd even drive and talk, and tell people, "Hold on" and set the phone down as I need both hands on the steering wheel to make a U-turn. Now, as to the train watchers...sure, if a shoelace got stuck in the track, that's not as bad as if they were just not paying attention and standing on the tracks. But not much better. The guy was in his 50s, the kid in his 20s. From the age of 4, I think I realized that train tracks could be bad news. I surely wouldn't stand on them. So, does that make sense how I could have little sympathy for them? As to the teen drivers...I had a 65 Mustang. And also a 79 Mustang. I never got a speeding ticket or any kind of ticket, as a teenager. The thought of getting in trouble with my folks, or having to cough up money for a ticket, or to risk denting my cars, wasn't worth it. So, no...it's hard for me to sympathize with kids doing stupid things. But I do realize kids do this, and it's part of being a teenager. As to the Raider fan, ADD and all that...why not try to change the perception people have of all those things? By coming onto a blog, and ranting and raving about things irrelevant to the topic at hand, how in the world can someone NOT think you have ADD? I'd also love to hear WHY you're a Raiders fan. Are you from Oakland? A big JaMarcus Russel fan? What?

Caging Elephants and Catching Trains

Arinoman, you finally make a decent point above, so I'll address that. IF I had a friend that left a child in the car that died, and it was just a stupid mistake, I would not "pile it on" towards them. They are grieving enough. Yes, I might think they were an idiot, but would hardly feel the need to address that outloud. Or in a blog. But when someone doesn't see an elephant on the road, I find that absurd. You see, it's people like this...that were talking on their cell phones and not paying attention to the road and causing accidents, that now make laws passed that DO NOT allow ME to use my cell phone. When I drove just fine (and still do) while talking on it. So, it's nice to make fun of the idiots that cause these laws. Now...as sad as it is for a father and son to die...this child wasn't 7. He was 23. And if he and his dad are "train watching"...well, how hard is it to stand far back and pursue this activity? I had all the sympathy in the world, when that former Charger player and coach, had his daughter slip into a long coma, after sitting on the hood of a car in a parking lot, while her friend drove (she was trying to carry a huge flower arrangement for her folks that didn't fit in the car, and they drove slow, before hitting a speed bump and her falling off). I have A LOT LESS sympathy for a teenage child that is doing some game, where they stand on the hood of the car horsing around. But even a situation like that...I realize teenagers do stupid things, so I don't say "Oh well, she deserved to die. She was an idiot." I DO, however, go along this path when I hear about things we've had recently. These car crashes in the North County, killing high school students, who were driving too fast and whatnot. And, the parents had no problem with them being out at 3:30 a.m. Something makes it REAL HARD for me to sympathize with these parents, when the kids weren't even supposed to be driving without another licensed driver. And their horsing around in a vehicle could've killed other people, not just them and their friends.
