Trick or Treat -- Football Edition
Well, it's funny you posted this. Because, I'm actually contradicting myself. You see, when I've talked about mentally challenged kids getting to play "one down" on the football team, because that was their dream, it bothered me. I always argued that high school sports is when kids are done "learning" about the basics of the sport, and they are trying to win. And yes, the coach should teach/imply that you should have good sportsmanship, and all that good stuff...but the bottom line is, you're trying to win. And, it's the first time kids learn about being cut from a team during try-outs, if they aren't good enough. Unlike youth sports where the parents pay and the kid plays. I just think...a coach should try to get the kids to win, without the trick gadget plays. It would be the equivalent of AP classes teaching kids, instead of good study habits in college, how to skate thru college classes and cheat.— October 22, 2008 9:39 a.m.

Dang it! Seriously, I didn't do the Biden thing on purpose. I type really fast, and often times, my finger type the most common letter combination...so, maybe that is "er" instead of ending a word with "en", I dunno. Maybe antigeek just has me so flustured with her insanity. I always hated when people would say "SNL hasn't been funny since the first few years." Because, it's always been hit and miss. In the book LIVE FROM NEW YORK, many cast members, like Dana Carvey, discuss that very thing. How bits in the early days didn't always work, but we see the highlights of the ones that did (Blues Brothers, bumble bees, samuri guy, etc). Even Carvey bits...they got made fun of, but now everyone LOVES the Church Lady. But, that show, for the last few years, really has slipped.— October 22, 2008 9:35 a.m.

I agree with everything you wrote...aside from the Cruelty film. How you could have loads of fun with that, is beyond me. And yes, they were going for film noir with The Man Who Wasn't There, but so what. Just tipping your hat to a genre, doesn't make a great film. And, critics really need to get their heads out of their butts. Movies like that...and Frantic (with Harrison Ford), can't get good reviews, just because they have the feel of a good, French caper film. No. It was horrible. And boring.— October 22, 2008 9:31 a.m.

The problem is this. If I name an actor...you are going to say there's nothing in their body of work to suggest they could pull it off. But, let's say that another actor had been the Joker. And Ledger was alive. If I were to have said "Ledger would've done just as good a job, or better," you would now be saying "What in his body of work shows that? Yes, the kid has range, but he probably wouldn't be as good." You are doing what the typical film goer does. And, you can't see another person in that role. Which is understandable. He was good in it. And, it's hard to picture someone else with the clown makeup on at this point. But, who says there had to be an age restriction? Nothing in how Dark Knight is written, or his past history (which is blurry, since he always changes the story on how he acquired the scars around his mouth)....so, why couldn't an actor that was 35 or 40, be the joker, in this latest installment of Batman?— October 21, 2008 12:34 p.m.

Oh geez, who cares how her name is spelled. Are you saying that, about Palin, because you hate Republicans? Because, I seriously doubt Bider would be able to pull of anything nearly as funny as Palin could.— October 21, 2008 10:04 a.m.

Of those three you mentioned, MsGrant, I like them all but Chelsea. She simply isn't funny, and has an arrogance that doesn't work, with her lack of substance. Dang..I'd love to see that View episode. Those women are so insane. They were freaking out the other day about why Colin Powell is given a hard time for supporting Obama, and if it's because he's black. They then said "Nobody is saying that to Joe Lieberman, that he's supporting the Republicans because they're white." Which, on the surface, seems like a good point, but it's not. I think I was wrong, and that she wasn't in the Aristocrats. I thought more about it, and only remember Silverman and Diller, as the women telling the joke (and, Silvermans segment wasn't all that funny). But yeah, Sagat was great in that. I figured Gish was acting in a silent movie in the sky.— October 21, 2008 2:42 a.m.

Well anti...I'm not going to name any actors. You're one of those people that is difficult to argue with, because you don't use logic properly. Listen....to say we haven't seen that "range" from an actor, means absolutely nothing. Before Dustin Hoffman played an autistic guy, there was no indication he'd be able to do that. After all..he played a shy, uncomfortable college graduate in The Graduate. He had played a reporter, a variety of roles, but never someone with a handicap. Maybe he wouldn't have the "range". And, that's exactly my point. Actors act! You don't need to have me give you an example of an actor that played "crazy" before, just to show that he could do it. Had Ledger not played this role (and was still alive), and some other actor pulled it off well, you'd be saying "Ledger doesn't have the range to do it."— October 20, 2008 11:07 a.m.

Geez, anti..you're like one of those people that on December 30th tells someone, "I'll see ya next year," and enjoy the confusion on their face. Or, on a Friday in the office, when someone says "I'll see you tomorrow," and you gleefully say "Really? On Saturday? Do we have plans?" You know I obviously didn't mean that old actress. And, yeah...when I was typing it, I realized that I could've been spelling the name wrong, but it wasn't important. Because, I don't anyone under 50 knows that old time actress. But, it did make me wonder...what ever happened to Lillian Gish?— October 20, 2008 11:03 a.m.

I never said he was a one-trick pony. I think he had some range. His performance was good in Brokeback Mountain, the movie just stunk. And...I'll give you a list of actors that could've played that part just as well. But...I'm going to go to bed right now. I'll do it in the morning. And, I'm going to say the age range can be from 20 to 35. Right off the bat, I'll say Leonardo DiCaprio. He got an Oscar nomination for What's Eating Gilbert Grape, as being mentally challenged. I'll say, well, Aaron Eickhard could've played that role (instead of Two-face). Mark Walberg, I'm sure, could've pulled it off. Although, everyone said his performance in that last M. Night movie was a horrible acting job. But, he didn't have to play "crazy" which, as crazy as it sounds...it's often harder to pull off a normal family man. Check out him playing a crazy in ...dang, what's the name of it....some movie where he dates William Petersons daughter (who was a famous blonde actress, can't place her). He's great in that, even though the film isn't so hot.— October 20, 2008 1:21 a.m.

The last I saw her...was a documentary. I believe that ARISTOCRATS film. Before that, I saw her in another documentary. Can't remember the topic, though. I assume she's still doing stand-up, but...tell us what comes up on Google. I'd like to know.— October 20, 2008 1:16 a.m.
