Signs on the Road
My stepbrother is always tailgating people in the left lane. I seriously think, that most people don't realize that even if you're going 80 in that lane, if someone comes up behind you, you're supposed to move to the right. It's a passing lane, not a lane for you to cruise in at your own speed. But, I always tell him...if you tailgate, a cop will nail you. So...get up to their bumper and give them a second to move over. If they don't, just start honking up a storm. And don't quit, until they move over.— January 6, 2009 2:13 a.m.

Interesting. I didn't know anything about dragons until that post. I agree about Streep not being as bad, as I mention at some point (maybe my original blog, but it would take too long to scroll back up and see), that much like Nurse Ratchet in Cuckoos Nest, people will remember her for being meaner than she actually was. And, that's one of the many things the director got right in the film. He showed some of her good sides, and that helps in the roller coaster you're supposed to be on as to his guilt or innocence.— January 6, 2009 2:10 a.m.
Leaving Off the Airplane
Fair enough. I guess my point was this. I'm one of those people that DOES NOT mind taking off my shoes before boarding a plane (neither does my girlfriend). Yet we constantly hear people gripe about it. Anything for safety, I'm fine with. I can't believe recently on a flight to NY, I forgot about my huge contact lense cleaner thing in my carry-on bag. Some guys in uniforms came over, asked me the deal, and they let it slide on by. I was stoked. But, I wouldn't have minded if I had to throw it away. Now, having grown up with a few Christian friends, that had to hide their Led Zeppelin albums at my house because their parents were convinced Jimmy Page was a Satanist, guess what? I wouldn't wear a Zeppelin T-shirt (or any of my rock shirts) over to their house. It's that same logic. It's the same reason when that guy wore a T-shirt into the airport (he was a college student, I believe)...it had Farcy (sp?) writing on it, and the airline asked him to wear a different shirt. He didn't want to, and an argument insued. But...this is a guy that purposely wanted people to wonder about his shirt. Well, when they did, then he didn't like it. All I know is this. When things happen in society....you have to think about how others around you perceive thing. When OJ was found "not guilty" and I was with friends and a restaurant, and a few black guys in suits came in and were laughing and carrying on...I swear, it looked like everyone in that room wanted to kick some butt! Who even knows what those guys were talking about. But, I'll tell you this. If I was them, I surely wouldn't be talking about OJ (in a positive way), when so many people were upset by the verdict. And...I think if you are Middle-Eastern, when getting on a plane, I'd like to think, that you would think, about making other passengers feel comfortable. To me, I don't care if you have a turban or headdress of any kind. But...for them to not think they'll get stares from just that, is naive.— January 6, 2009 2:05 a.m.

john, just curious...what's your opinion on the film "bigger, stronger, faster"? because, something interesting. i just checked some of your old posts, and they all seem to merely defend duncan shephard. can't he log on and defend his own opinions? or do you just ALWAYS agree with him? that seems rather odd. it's not a matter of me wanting a pat on the back, or to be "right"...but i can't stand when critics give great films bad reviews. or vice versa. it's what keeps hollywood making crap movies that are blockbusters, and what keeps crappy indie and foreign films winning or getting nominations for oscars, when they have no business getting the praise.— January 6, 2009 1:57 a.m.

Well...it was weird when he went on about having long fingernails. Not sure why he pointed out if you keep them clean, it's okay. Also, regarding the shirt, I believe he told Adams that the kid left it at basketball practice. Not sure why he "smelled" it, or held it, before just placing it back in the kids locker. But, you've never answered this question. Streep was such a bitch. And she was so sure she was right (in the beginning). Why would she have had "doubt" at the end? If she was soooo sure about all this...it seems in her mind, even if she had a little bit of doubt, surely she wouldn't cry because of it. Her logic would be: you make me suspicious in MY church, i'll crush you. And I'll have no sympathy about it.— January 5, 2009 11:23 a.m.
Leaving Off the Airplane
I figure a few people will post that I'm a jerk for even mentioning such a topic. But my logic is...when in Rome... It's the same reason I had no problem with the American kid taking 30 lashes when he vandalized cars in Singapore and Clinton tried to help him. We all slow down when we see a cop on the road (and if you're me, you also put your cell phone down now, too). We often change things we do, based on our surroundings. So, if you were things around your head, and you know how crazy things are at an airport, I'd say it's best to not speak Farcy (sp?)....or talk about bombs going off, or planes going down, or anything like that.— January 5, 2009 12:29 a.m.
The Idiotic Charles Barkley
Who didn't Madonna have an affair with? And, Rodman looked pretty good in a dress, and the multi-colored hair he had going for a while (although it probably made it hard for Madonna to clean the headboard afterwards).— January 5, 2009 12:26 a.m.
Lottery Tickets
That's funny. If someone gave me a novelty one, and I knew it was a fake one, I'd pretend that I thought it was real. I'd run out of the house screaming. I'd come back with a fake Rolex, and tell them I put a down payment of $5,000 on it! Then, I'd wait for their reaction. So, a guy in PB recently bought a lottery ticket that won millions. I don't think they announced who, though. The 7-11 owner, that has only owned it a few years, is getting $250,000 and says he'll split it with his employees. Now that is a cool a boss.— January 4, 2009 5:53 p.m.

The actual metaphors and things the movie did were actually it's weakest part. Sometimes it was like watching movie making 101, when a light bulb burns out, or thunder and lightning hit and some dramatic spot in the movie. Don't get me wrong, I think the Catholic Church has done A LOT of covering up on this issue. Also...I'll take your word on molestation victims. I didn't consider the points you brought up in your last few posts. As you said about the kid being 12 and possibly "in love" with him. It's one of the reasons I've argued with my guy friends, when they claim a 16 year old girl should be able to date a 30 year old, if they choose to (and I try explaining, that a 16-year-old doesn't make the best decisions). On another topic...I can't figure out why nobody is mad about Miley Cyrus, who was 15, dating a 20-year-old! And again, regarding this playwrite, he did a very, very poor job of leaving "doubt" in peoples minds, if that was his intent. It wouldn't have been hard to make some of the scenes with Hoffman more vague, as to leave doubt. But instead, he answered all of Hoffmans reasons for being alone with the boy.— January 4, 2009 12:21 p.m.

This just in: one of the main people in the documentary: Bigger, Stronger, Faster has died! Drug overdose, they suspect. He was an interesting character in the film...he wanted to be a wrestler, but they kept turning him down. He thought steroids, and being more muscular, would help. Even though his family tried warning him against that. By the way, that documentary got a 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, which means there wasn't ONE CRITIC in in the U.S. that disliked the movie.— January 3, 2009 2:25 p.m.
