There Was a Young Lady That Lived in a Shoe...
Those are debatable points, blue. Mike Judge did a movie called Idiocracy (two people recommended it to me...it was very disappointing, but great premise -- smart people didn't have kids because they thought it wasn't the proper time to bring them into the world, while dumb people continued to multiply and take over the world). A lot of people are upset that this woman is now looking for a big time TV deal. I have no problem with that. Let her make money, so WE don't have to pay to raise her kids. But in the mean time, take the kids from her. She's obviously not right in the head (a single mom, with 6 children, one set of twins, and one Autistic, and then having in vitro and getting 8 more...shouldn't be raising children...and she should prove that she now has enough money, resources, space...to raise those kids).— February 5, 2009 4:13 a.m.
Celebration of the Lizard
Body Double was a great film. Nice little role for Dennis Franz as the jerk director (or is he really a jerk? if you are dracula, and can't stand being in a coffin, maybe he has a right to do a Christian Bale yell on your ass). Turf Club is the most overrated place of all-time. The one inside Del Mar is cool. The one with a bunch of people that think they're cool before seeing a show at the Casbah...not so much.— February 5, 2009 4:07 a.m.
Michael Phelps -- 8 Gold Medals, 2 Drug Busts
I'm going to do another blog on Phelps today. But, in response to this...I will say this. I hate when people say that blacks get into trouble for stuff that whites don't. But this is one example where I think you are right. Had this been a black Olympic athlete, I'm guessing the sponsors would've dropped him quicker. I argued with a liberal friend of mine, that insists blacks are jailed more than whites for the same crimes. And, some stats may show that to be. But, read the book Freakanomics. They explain that when everyone used to say that blacks doing crack cocaine were charged in a different fashion than white collar whites that snorted cocaine, they showed that THAT is not only not the case, but that doesn't explain why so many more African-Americans are in the prisons (as some have suggested).— February 4, 2009 10:13 a.m.
Wild and Woolly
Alias...I didn't just read the Michael Moore things online. Many shows showed the statements he's done that are wrong. In fact, one politician even mentioned how he agreed with Moore, when Moore stood outside asking these politicians sign things to send their kids to war, or whatever that was. Yet, Moore (as usual) edited the piece to make it look like the guy WAS NOT agreeing, or happy, by Moore's presence. Moore also edited an NRA rally after the Columbine shooting, to show people applauding after statements they didn't applaud after. TO me, that constitutes a "lie". Either show the people responding to the appropriate statements, or don't show that thing at all. Now, I had no problem with Moore going to Hestons home and having him dig his own grave, that's fine. But to re-edit an NRA meeting, to make them look like they didn't care about Columbine, I don't believe, is a fair thing to do. And, it saddens me, because he started out with such great possibilities (going back to Roger & Me, and his TV Nation show). But, like Rush Limbaugh, he has proven to just be a big bag of hot air (even if I agree with Moore politically on many things). John...since you ended with "favorite few"...I'd love to hear your top five favorite films of the year, and least favorite.— February 3, 2009 5:17 p.m.
The Dog Blog -- Acquiring a Mutt
I know it's Hank's dad, dudette. I didn't ask WHO he was. I said I didn't know that character had a name (other than Bobby calling him grandpa, and Hank calling him dad). I loved the bio on that link you posted. It said "biggest disappointment: Hank Hill."— February 3, 2009 5:11 p.m.
Michael Phelps -- 8 Gold Medals, 2 Drug Busts
You are correct, shizzy. That's what this judge was saying when I heard him speak. Fred, the problem is you are saying that I was "going off" on Phelps. Re-read my blog. Nowhere did I go off on him. I made a joke about his goofy looking face and a few attempts a humor (how much his dolphin lungs could inhale, and Wheaties box). I am not outraged. You are correct on that, sir. But, I don't just blog about things that I'm outraged about. Sometimes just fun stories. Yes, this is jumping on the bandwagon, I'll admit to that. But so what? All the sports shows are talking about it. Why? Because the store has different reasons to be interesting. The whole role model debate, legalizing pot, would a black athlete have lost the endorsement deals that Phelps isn't losing, should celebrities have privacy, etc etc etc.— February 3, 2009 5:09 p.m.
Michael Phelps -- 8 Gold Medals, 2 Drug Busts
Fred, I just read that write-up/link you have posted. Lame. First, to bring up Presidents and pot...who cares. It would be different if Obama gets elected, and then lit up in the Lincoln bedroom and was caught on camera doing it. He admits to doing drugs when he was younger. But now, he's a role model to so many. And, as much as I think pot should be legalized, and as much as I think it doesn't do much harm if people smoke it recreationally, I'm a hardcore believer in not letting kids see these things. Because kids irrationally take scenarios...things like drinking at 15 and saying "My mom has wine with dinner, and my dad has a few beers after work...what hypocrits." So to me, we can keep things behind close doors. The same way I went off on the Westerfield case, when the little girls parents had swingers parties in the garage. They had a child in the house, therefore, that lifestyle (to me) is no longer appropriate. If you want to sleep with your friends, or even a goat, fine. Don't have kids and expose them to that lifestyle, and you can do what you want (well, I think the goat is probably still illegal, but you see my point). For that article to bring up the life expectancy in the NFL is just idiotic. He's implying that they put their body thru all this stress, merely for OUR enjoyment, so we should let them run afoul of the law. Well, guess what? I've been reading the paper every day since I was 13. And, you know why most of these NFL players die in their 50s? Because they were 350 lb linebackers, that had complications to diabetes or heart disease due to weight. So pardon me for not having the most sympathy for them croaking at a young age. My grandfather and uncle died in their 50s from heart disease, and were average weights for their age. But, all that being said...I still wouldn't mind the NFL players smoking a blunt, if they did it behind closed doors (and they weren't bringing league policy). Because, as I said in my article, why jeapordize endorsement deals?— February 3, 2009 10:37 a.m.
Michael Phelps -- 8 Gold Medals, 2 Drug Busts
Fred, a few things. First, I've never tried pot in my life. Oh, wait...once at a party I was writing about, I had a few pot brownies without knowing it until after. Just because I know terms like bowls, bongs, bogart, spliff...that doesn't mean anything. Second, I believe pot should be legalized. I think I even wrote about that in detail after attending an event with a judge from L.A. that says the same thing. Third, why is it people think that African-Americans get it worse than everyone else? When I grew up in Mira Mesa, black guys outside the basketball courts would drink 40s and smoke pot right there in the parking lot. And sometimes cops would come up and bust them. NOT because they were black. But because they were doing it in the open (I believe Phelps is indoors, probably at a party). Him NOT being busted doesn't have to do with his color (or Gold medals). It has to do with what the cops see. It also helps when police are questioning you, to not mouth off and just answer their questions. Have you ever watched one of those COPS shows, and things escalate so fast when someone isn't showing their license, but merely repeat over and over "why did you pull me over?! I didn't do anything wrong!"— February 3, 2009 10:27 a.m.
The Dog Blog -- Acquiring a Mutt
Interesting. I like King of the Hill. I didn't even realize that character had a name. Why is he named Cotton?— February 3, 2009 1:05 a.m.

Anya got a full page in another music mag a few months back. I think it may have been Spin, but I can't remember now. Nice write ups.— February 3, 2009 1:01 a.m.
