Racquetball Rorschach
You know how many times people have said that...and I kill them at the game? As a teenager, I'd play my friends parents, for $20 a game. Never lost. One guy bet me $100 on a game. I beat him. I still kick myself for not challenging him when he did "Zen". I wasn't sure if it was capitalized or not. But, he only got 18 points on it, so it wasn't worth the risk. SD...do you ever do the caption contest in the New Yorker? I love that, even though they do it so poorly.— June 3, 2009 10:31 a.m.
As Expected, GM Will Go into Bankruptcy Tomorrow
My friend in New York, a few months back, was insisting I buy some GM stock. He said it was a bit of a gamble, but at prices that low, I should make the gamble. I laughed so hard, he got insulted. I'm afraid to call him and ask how much he bought. On a side note: Does anyone know if I can score a Pontiac Solstice cheap now? I'd love one of those.— June 2, 2009 1:26 a.m.
Idiotic Football Players
Well, I'm no scientist (although I play one on TV). But I'm not sure your logic on evolution works. Because, if something evolved from something else, it doesn't mean that it WAS that thing. For example, there are animals that evolved from other animals (I believe birds being related to dinosaurs, or...what's the other weird one...whales and some land mamal are somehow related). And, if you don't believe in evolution, I'm assuming that you just go with the Adam & Eve story. That would be fine, except that science DOES explain people living on the planet before that time. And, there are so many more flaws in the Bible and the stories that religious groups use in relation to how we got to Earth. Not to mention this fact. I'm guessing that 98% of all scientists believe in evolution. And they clearly understand these matters better than you and I.— June 2, 2009 12:32 a.m.
A Day in the Life
Oh...rickey...it's not a matter of me NEEDING to nurture something. But once you have someone or something in your life, isn't it best to take the best care of it possible? I walk the dog 4 times a day. And, I went to visit an old friend of mine a few weeks ago. He has a huge black lab, and we were going to walk our dogs together (you know how I know you're gay?). Well, I asked him how often he walks his dog. He said about once a week. I couldn't believe it. Before I got my dog, I read books, wanted to make sure I did everything right. And he thinks throwing it in his big backyard is enough. He has kids. They can walk the dog. Yet, he was against gays getting married. I had to lecture him on that, too. It baffles me, the logic people have on issues sometimes.— June 2, 2009 12:23 a.m.
A Day in the Life
Congrats on a long marriage (well, long by todays standards). I have to ask...how does she take stories like the taco one? As much as this girlfriend, whom I've been with for a year and a half, is wonderful...believe me, she doesn't put up well with my rants. We seem to always agree on movies, which is nice. But boy, we've had some hardcore debates about many issues. But what makes her a keeper is...at the end of the day...(although we still might go to bed angry, despite how that old saying goes), she goes out of her way so much for me. And for all her friends, really.— June 2, 2009 12:21 a.m.
Phil Spector and the Police (not a new band, new criminals)
micsolis...also, from memory on the first trial, they said that Spector was covered in blood splatters, but he claims that's because he was close by and "trying" to keep her from shooting herself. But, if you're in the mood to do research, find out what percentage of people kill themselves by going to a persons house. Or, by meeting a person in a bar and going home with them. I'm guessing if that has ever happened, it's a relationship that went wrong, and the person goes over to kill themself in front of the person that broke up with them.— June 1, 2009 2:56 p.m.
A Day in the Life
Well...the sweet side is rather small. I just read a story about the Rock n Roll Marathon, and a guy in a wheelchair went down the wrong road, and hit a taxi. He thought he was going to die, as he slid underneath it. He said that he quickly got back into his chair, even with all his scrapes and bruises, and headed back into the race. I think he finished second, and won $750. Well...I read this in the paper this morning and was happy he wasn't hurt, but wondered about the cab driver. Does he just get a scraped up bumper or dent from a wheelchair, while the guy just rolls off to finish the race? Don't get me wrong, I feel so bad for people in wheelchairs. But I also hate being at a grocery store and someone hits me in their chair and doesn't say "excuse me." And, I just wonder what, if any, damage was done to the cab.— June 1, 2009 2:53 p.m.
Phil Spector and the Police (not a new band, new criminals)
Dude...if you're going to put a link of something for me to read, make it something of substance. In that article, it said she had gun residue on her hands. It also said that could mean her hands were in "close proximaty" not necessarily that she fired the shot (imagine him sticking the gun in her face, and her putting hands up there to try and stop it). It tells us absolutely nothing. Especially, because...had PHIL SPECTOR NOT had any gun residue on his hands, that would've been all over the news. Because, imagine that scenario. She has it on her hands, and he doesn't. Case closed. There would be no case. In regards to me being happy that a "rich guy" got put away, that's hardly what I am happy about. It's about people that bully and threaten people with weapons, or their fists (ie OJ), that constantly get special treatment from police, because they are rich and/or famous. And, they can afford better lawyers than poor people.— June 1, 2009 11:31 a.m.
NBA -- Playoffs and Personalities
Yeah, I'm going to watch, and root against the Lakers. I agree, Kobe is an amazing player. I do not, however, agree on the reasons why one race passes a test and another doesn't. But, they're saying the Supreme Court is going to over-rule the decision to throw out that test.— June 1, 2009 10:58 a.m.
Phil Spector and the Police (not a new band, new criminals)
Fred, I disagree. Reality shows are definitely "based" on reality. They just often mix reality with other things. It's a lot like wedding photos. You might think the couple look so happy and wonderful, but they stood there, doing 25 different poses, with umbrellas making the light just right, etc. These things have been going on forever. I just don't think cops on steroids is that big an issue. I'd be willing to bet that it is going on with less than 5% of the police force. micsolis: I will gladly debate the Spector case with you. First, why is what the chauffer said discounted? Why? It's like the chauffer in the O.J. case. He was the perfect witness. He showed up, OJ wasn't home. He saw a black guy walk in the house, couldn't be positive it was OJ, but right after this "figure" walked into the house, OJ then answered the buzzer. Why would this limo driver lie about what Spector said? He has no ax to grind. Second, explain to me why so many women have had guns put in their face by Spector? You mean to tell me...that a suicidal woman went and just happened to killer herself at a guys house, who has a habit of putting guns in faces (by the way, John Lennon said in an interview Spector put a gun in his face, as did musician John Prine in an interview WITH ME!!!!!) Third, you do some research. And come back and tell me, how often someone committs suicide at SOME ONE ELSES HOUSE. IT just never happens. Fourth, tell me...if a woman is suicidal, how is she getting Spectors gun? It seems to me, if you have guns in your house, keep them away from your guests. ESPECIALLY, the suicidal ones. Also, why did none of Lana Clarksons friends say she was suicidal? Usually people come out and say "Oh yeah, she's been talking about this for weeks now." Regarding mistakes in the handling of evidence...I think 50% of all cases, have some kind of mistake. But at the end of the day, common sense tells you what happens. This is EXACTLY why Spectors own son, thinks his dad did it.— June 1, 2009 10:54 a.m.
