A Day in the Life
I third it! Oh wait...what are we talking about?— June 4, 2009 9:59 a.m.
Prom Queen Controversy
Well...I'm not so sure it was the students and school "taking a stand", per se. The kids were just having fun with it. As to me, is their right. And I'm glad they did. If any parents were upset...oh well.— June 4, 2009 9:59 a.m.
LeBron James -- Bad Sport?
Uh...hey there, Zak. I'll be glad to continue the discussion. Just post on here anything you wish to add, and I'll comment on it.— June 4, 2009 9:57 a.m.
Don't Bring a Bat to a Gun Fight
I just read that story, and as horrible a situation as that was, her lawsuit was rightly thrown out. As it should've been. I believe these workers made a bad decision, but it may have been drilled into their heads: if you see idiots fighting or robbing someone, stay inside your area and call authorities. If you go out and get involved, we will have the right to fire you, even if you didn't start the fight. And, threats like that from bosses, might make you reluctant to help anyone. I can't believe on all those shows were crazy videos are caught on camera. The amount of times I see a convenient store clerk fighting back, when the person has a weapon (sometimes even a gun), and they think the best course of action is swinging a weapon at them, or jumping at the burglar who's holding the gun. I guarantee their bosses say the same thing -- just hand over the money, and call the police. Don't try to be a hero. But yeah, if a woman is being attacked, I think you use a bit more common sense, when you could probably end that crime immediately. Even if that means you're taking a few punches in the process.— June 4, 2009 9:56 a.m.
Don't Bring a Bat to a Gun Fight
I hadn't heard of that case, thanks for the link. Well, Mathew Alice once answered a question about shark attacks, and whether or not life guards had to go swim out to help someone being torn apart by a Great White, when that might lead to the lifeguard being shark food. And lifeguards are told that they don't have to go out there. They can call 911, and "stay out of harms way," or take a kayak out and try their best to do "something", that didn't include jumping in the water. I think ANYONE should jump in and try to stop an attack. What I meant, though, is once you've shot someone and they're on the ground...you have ample time to flee. You can call the cops, run out of the building. And if you are armed, have that at the ready. If the person comes out and you feel threatened, shoot him again. Also, be prepared that officers will be showing up, and if you're the one holding the gun, that might not be the safest thing, either.— June 4, 2009 9:49 a.m.
Racquetball Rorschach
Well...usually the ones they pick I have no problem with. But the times I've sent a caption in that totally rocks, I'll ask a few of my friends (that love nothing more than to tell me when my material sucks). And they'll say it's the best caption. I think they have interns go thru them...and narrow it down to 20, and the editors go from there.— June 3, 2009 10 p.m.
Idiotic Football Players
Well...there are people that are born with both sets of sex organs. So, they might have a sex change, because as an adult they feel they know which sex they should be. It's hardly a self-esteem issue, or about finding someone to love you. I mean, it is funny when someone like Woody Allen says "I should become bisexual. It will improve my chances of finding a date on Friday night." In reality, it just doesn't work that way.— June 3, 2009 3:33 p.m.
NBA -- Playoffs and Personalities
I'm not sure I know the origins of the white players in the NBA, whether they were born and raised in Americcca or not. Sorry 'bout that. I do know that Larry Bird was, two years in a row, in the running for coach of the year. Perhaps even won the title. Byron Scott WAS NOT a good coach, sorry to tel ya. But Doc Rivers was (and he smoked the overrated Phil Jackson). Not sure who administering the test with the firefighters matters. I mean...are you implying that if a white, Latino, or Asian...was the one giving the tests, they did something wrong?— June 3, 2009 3:31 p.m.
Idiotic Football Players
Well, I hardly think people get sex change operations for low self-esteem, or my entire 5th grade class would've gotten them. I don't think evolution happens as quickly as you think, which is why we haven't changed recently.— June 3, 2009 10:41 a.m.
NBA -- Playoffs and Personalities
Diversity is a great thing. But how in the world do you promote firefighters? Do you see who last put out the fire in the best, most efficient manner? Or, do you have a test? Believe me...I'd be willing to bet that some of those African-Americans were better firefighters than some of the whites. But the bosses decided a test would be the best way to promote. I'm willing to bet, if 75% of the ones that passed the test were black, nobody would've complained, or tried to speculate on whether or not the test was biased. As I think I mentioned before, I have no problem that the NBA is mostly African-American. But, your argument about naming a player that is white, better than Kobe or LeBron, is kind of silly. Steve Nash, Dirk Nowitzski...are two white players that have been in the top of the league for years now (those are the first two that came to mind). And if you start going down that path, I'm guessing you won't be happy with the results. As, the first black coach in the history of the NBA...Bill Russell...was also one of the worst. And then someone can ask you...why was Magic Johnson also a bad coach? These guys were Hall of Fame players, yet were horrible coaches. Why? I'm guessing it has NOTHING to do with race. But, I'm guessing that 80% of the coaches in the NBA are white. But since you want to bring race up, maybe you can explain those numbers to me.— June 3, 2009 10:37 a.m.
