Stocks Slaughtered, Now Near Official Bear Market; Oil Almost Hits $140, Dollar Drops
When you print money like it is newspaper, with nothing to back up it's value, it tends to go down the toilet. Thank you Bushie, your handling of the war and the economy has basically put America into a state of bankruptcy , as we inch closer to third world status. November, please hurry up and get here, I don't care who wins, as long as Bushie is out of office.— June 26, 2008 3:58 p.m.
SeaWorld Could Be Sold: InBev Officially Bids $65 a Share for Anheuser-Busch, Which Turns Down Bid
I think Six Flags, at least in CA., will eventually fold or be sold for housing/building. It is just not a destination theme park anymore, not even for locals. I don't know how much income Seaworld generates, but I think it is one of the worst tourist attractions in So Cal. I would bet it is below Legoland in income.— June 26, 2008 3:55 p.m.
San Diegans Installing Big Fuel Tanks, Filling Up in Mexico, Where Prices Cheaper. Mexicans Displeased
Now if only Mexico would create some jobs we Americans could really piss them off. By Ponzi 4:19 p.m., Jun 25, 2008 > Report it ====================================== Hahahah....that is funny! Mexico, if they were not so corrupt, they have the natural resources to become an economic powerhouse. But it will never happen with the corruptuion occupying all levels, including the top, of government. Over half of the 110 million people in Mexico live in poverty. Pathetic.— June 26, 2008 1:39 p.m.
Dan Holbrook pushed real estate debt to San Diegans and then succumbed to it
Trust Deeds are pure scams in San Diego, and anyone targeting the elderly should be prosecuted for elder financial abuse. Don, was Gary Naiman the guy that ran Pioneer????? That was a petty big scam, and after the BK attorneys looted the remaining funds the investors only received like 7 cents on the dollar.— June 25, 2008 11:01 p.m.
Unrelenting Swoon: San Diego Home Prices Now Back to Levels of Fall of 2003
I do not agree with either kind of bailout because of moral hazard. . . . Believe it or not, I believe prices could fall another 20 percent or more. ====================================== I am with you 100% on the bailouts, and I agree Bear Sterns should never have been bailed out. As for real estate, a further decline of 20% is possible, on the outside like you said. If we have a bad recession (which the experts say we are not in yet!) then I could see a further decline of 20%. Not impossible. Then the only people who will be able to buy will be cops and FF's though (if SD has not declared BK). BTW Just Wondering, I am not Bruce Henderson.— June 24, 2008 8:52 p.m.
Unrelenting Swoon: San Diego Home Prices Now Back to Levels of Fall of 2003
Home prices have dropped 30+% in the last 18 months, and I predict they will drop another 5-10% before things stabilize. These falling prices prove up just how BIG of a real estate bubble we were really in. The biggest in history (much thanks goes to Alan "Mr. Bubble" Greenspan). Much worse than the commercial bubble of the late 80's/early 90's. Same reason though, speculation with absolutely no money in the game. Also the same end result, HUGE taxpayer funded bailouts. I just read today a 300 BILLION!!! dollar bailout fund for bad loans passed in the senate. This nonsense burns me up. Hey Don, did you watch Lou Dobbs yesterday?? He had Stehphen Cay Johnston of the Wall Street Journal on. He has a new book out, to go with the others. They are right up your alley (mine too). Smart guy-and he never went to college! I know you have mentioned him before in your columns, if you saw him tell me what you thought.— June 24, 2008 2:44 p.m.
Brandes Gets Mug in Newspaper, but Moneywise Gets Mugged by Newspapers
Margo, good to have you here........and I don’t care what your age is, you look FABULOUS!— June 23, 2008 8:12 p.m.
Brandes Gets Mug in Newspaper, but Moneywise Gets Mugged by Newspapers
Response to post #27: Is that the last word? I could call her and ask her. ============================================= If you do call Margo...........TELL her JV thinks she's the bomb and wants a date........................Hahaha...I am sure that will cause her bust out in uncontrollable laughter.— June 21, 2008 6:44 p.m.
County Unemployment Rate Surges in May Although Jobs Rise for Month
The government counts the military in employment figures, which is bogus in IMHO. The military should not be counted for UE purposes, because of the large numbers and the fact that it is for national defense, and the military is in a non competitive market. The government does NOT count in UE figures anyone who has been unemployed more than 6 months, which accounts for a significant portion of unemployment. ALL unemployed MUST be counted. In addition, UE does not account for the highly educated or skilled who are underemployed in low wage, low benefit jobs (like tourism and hospitality). That skews the employment picture even more.— June 20, 2008 8:12 p.m.
County Unemployment Rate Surges in May Although Jobs Rise for Month
Leisure and hospitality jobs accounted for 90 percent of the jobs gain between April and May. ======================================== Both above jobs are low paying with NO benefits. Not a way to sustain a person's necessities of life, a county, a state or an economy. . . . . Oh, and before I forget, the UE numbers are cooked, try taking out military employment then adding on 15 points to get a true measure of the unemployed and underemployed.— June 20, 2008 3:58 p.m.
