Union-Tribune's New Buyout Program Suggests the Company May Be Bought Out Soon, and May Be in Cash Flow Squeeze
They have a pretty solid deal lined up-and part of the deal is to shed operating expenses. A deal is in the pipeline-and the new owners will fire people when they take over to cut operating expenses. Wait and see-a deal is just around the corner.— August 28, 2008 6:29 p.m.
Amount Moores Group Is Offering to Peregrine Victims is $55 Million; Originally, Plaintiffs Wanted Over a Billion
If they take a peanuts offer, as in $55 million in peanuts, they don't deserve "Moore".— August 28, 2008 6:27 p.m.
Jack in the Box, Rubio’s, Charlotte Russe, WD-40, and Callaway Golf face a double whammy:
Sign me up for the next Fred Williams Ensenada fish taco excursion....... I am so THERE!— August 28, 2008 12:02 p.m.
Jack in the Box, Rubio’s, Charlotte Russe, WD-40, and Callaway Golf face a double whammy:
Rubio's is one of the best, and my personal favortie, fast food joints in America. I remember when I first moved here for college at SDSU and they only had 3 restaurants-including the one at State. A San Diego success story. WD-40, a home grown superstar. Stands for Water Displacement-and took 40 tries before they got it right-hence WD-40. The Atlas Hotels, used to be the largest independant hotel chain in CA....... are they still in business or did they sell out???? I love this town!— August 27, 2008 10:42 p.m.
John Moores and Peregrine Cronies Agree to "Very Significant" Settlement in Civil Suit, but Victims' Lawyers Battle
Richard Kipperman (and some of his cronies at the DOJ's office) is an idiot. And by the sound of things so is Cera. You don't go around behind a BK Trustee's back and do backroom deals. Unless Moore loses all of his 600 million it is not much of a deal. The fact is Moores should lose his 600 Million PLUS another 600 million as a fine to set an example that this nonsense is taken seriously.— August 27, 2008 10:34 p.m.
What San Diego beekeepers are doing about Africanized bees
Cool article.— August 27, 2008 3:57 p.m.
Asian Households Had Highest Median Incomes in County in 2007, Census Data Show
Very interesting numbers-especially the full time workers who live in poverty (45%). Don, this link to excess is a special present from me to you-enjoy (PS-can you beleiev it??)! http://stadium.dallascowboys.com/— August 26, 2008 5:25 p.m.
San Diego Single Family Home Prices Have Now Plunged 30 Percent from Their 2005 Peak
Foolish specualtion, driven by low interest and weak lending and underwriting standards- And Alan "Mr. Buble" Greenspan. Don, I said 30% was going to be the floor and end of the price drop, you said it will fall more-we are going to find out who is right in the next 6 months. I actually think you have the edge right now. If the economy tanks more-or we have another round of job losses-you will be the winner.— August 26, 2008 2:08 p.m.
UCSD Tied for 35th in U.S. News's Annual Ranking of Universities
University of MI Law School used to be rated 3rd in the nation behind Yale and Harvard-now it is usually in a three way tie at 6,7,8 with Cal Berkeley/Boalt Law and U of VA. Sam Zell graduated from U of MI. LS. Ivan Boeasky, who still lives in La Jolla, graduated from my LS, Detroit College of Law (Now MSU COL). I still get a kick out of telling people Boesky graduated from my LS.— August 25, 2008 11:56 p.m.
Canadian Newspaper Company Looking at Union-Tribune; Would Take Advantage of Strong "Loonie"
The UT must have a way to generate an income stream suffecient to support the paper. I have no idea if that type of income is possible or not, so it could be a big risk. I think the paper could be managed better-less partisan in the editorial department-which could only help it. The UT is in between a rock and a hard place.— August 24, 2008 10:57 a.m.
