Hi Fumbler!— September 1, 2008 2:14 p.m.
Local Newsweek Correspondent Pleads to Chargers: "Don't Bolt!"
No need for a Superbowl appearance, or win, to know the Chargers are worth keeping-that is NOT the issue. The issue is should ALL San Diego COunty taxpayers subsidize a BILLIONAIRE? That is the only question presented. I say no. Most people in San Diego say no. How many of San Diego counties 2.5 million residents have ever been to, or can currently afford to go to, a Chargers game? Not many. It is an upper scale sport to see in person today-and the poor should not be forced to pay for the rich, especially when the City and County are crumbling. It is morally and ehtically unconscionable. It is financially unfeasable.— September 1, 2008 12:25 p.m.
Union-Tribune's New Buyout Program Suggests the Company May Be Bought Out Soon, and May Be in Cash Flow Squeeze
I am going with Obama-easy choice for me. BUT, I think McCain could do a decent job too. Last-I don't really care who gets elected as long as the untrained Circus Chimp we have in there now is out on January 4th, 2009. The last 4-6 years have literally devestated our country, morally, financially and ethically.— August 31, 2008 8:34 p.m.
Amount Moores Group Is Offering to Peregrine Victims is $55 Million; Originally, Plaintiffs Wanted Over a Billion
An early column I did for the Reader -- back in 2004 -- suggested that CCDC be abolished. ===== The expenses of the SEDC the last 10 years have been $54 million. I don't know what the CCDC expenses were, but there is no way the SEDC brought in enough development OR business to justify that kind of expense. Someone, somewhere needs to analyze the return on investment of these agencies-and if they are not working kill them off. I know SEDC is not working and would be willing to bet my last dollar CCDC isn't working either on an ROI/ROTI.— August 31, 2008 8:29 p.m.
Union-Tribune's New Buyout Program Suggests the Company May Be Bought Out Soon, and May Be in Cash Flow Squeeze
So what's David Copley going to do for a living? By Ponzi 6:06 p.m., Aug 30, 2008 > Report it ========================= David Copley is a trust funder, and has basically never worked. He better not go thru the millions he currently has, because when that money is gone so is his life. Does anyone know if David still owns the ocean front Mission Beach house he built in 88?? "Casa De Bananas" or some similar silly name.— August 31, 2008 8:40 a.m.
Jack in the Box, Rubio’s, Charlotte Russe, WD-40, and Callaway Golf face a double whammy:
My owner told me the large Cokes we were selling for $.89, only cost him 5 cents. And, the hamburgers we were selling for $.49, only cost him about 12 cents. A friend of mine that recently sold the Subway Sandwiches he owned in Point Loma, told me the Coke prices haven't gone up much. A large soda (which he probably sold for $1.25 or something), only cost him around 7 cents. ====================== 100% false. I used to sell Subway all their food thru Sysco foodservices in the early 90's, and that is NOT the costs of soft drinks. A 12 oz Coke costs .30-.35 cents, not 5 cents, and that was back in 91 when I sold them. The profit margins, if sold at .89 cents would then be about 60%. Coffee costs about a nickel for a 5 oz cup, and the profit margins are much higher than soft drinks. I can also state that a burger did not cost 12 cents to make in 1985.— August 29, 2008 11:43 p.m.
El Cajon Seeks Half-Cent Tax
They could tax meth labs. ============ Or they could stop paying GED educated cops and FF's 6 figure salaries and multi million dollar pensions at age 50. BOOM, the "fiscal" problem would be solved.— August 29, 2008 11:35 p.m.
Amount Moores Group Is Offering to Peregrine Victims is $55 Million; Originally, Plaintiffs Wanted Over a Billion
Yes, I would go to trial and skip the $55 million peanut payday when a payday 20 times that is sitting around the corner. I would roll the dice on those odds all day long. As for bias with the judge (is it the worst judge in the southern district>>Huff???)-it does not matter because ANY case with this much money on the line is going to be appealed automatically, so if you get a bad judge just take it up on appeal at the 9th. Class action firms love to take the easy money though-that is why you need a strong judge to make sure fairness to the class is in the deal. $55 million is a joke.— August 28, 2008 11:36 p.m.

I order exclusively off off the "value meal" items ($1). The one exception is I will once in a great while order the full breakfest at Mickey D's for around $5.— August 28, 2008 6:36 p.m.
John Moores and Peregrine Cronies Agree to "Very Significant" Settlement in Civil Suit, but Victims' Lawyers Battle
$55 million is not "significant" in realtion to the losses in this case.— August 28, 2008 6:32 p.m.
