Local Newsweek Correspondent Pleads to Chargers: "Don't Bolt!"
Most of the Fire Department's alleged call volume is totally bogus and unnecessary. The Fire Department continues to send fire engines to minor fender bender accidents where there are no injuries and the risk of fire is nil. The Fire Department also improperly dispatches fire engines to assist paramedics. In our neighorhood an elderly woman constantly calls the paramedics whenever she feels faint. The fire engine always shows up along with the paramedic van ====== Funny, I was in a MINOR accident on I-5 at Sea World Drive many years ago and I kid you not, 2 fire trucks with full crews showed up. And left just as fast after they saw 6 inches of scratched paint! For the hypocondriac's I would suggest charging for thsoe types of calls, a flat fee of 500 bucks per call. The same for PD "false alram" calls, which typically arrive on Monday mornings between 7-9 AM-taxpaers should nti have to pay for false alarms.— September 8, 2008 8:19 a.m.

The LA Times "Sunday Jobs" classified, which used to be 10-15+ pages, is now basically 2 full page, or four half pages with advertiements. Pretty shocking.— September 8, 2008 8:11 a.m.
Conservative Wall Street Journal Heaps Praise on Liberal Mike Aguirre, Citing His Pension Battle
Johnny wrote: "JF, the SD pension and healthcare deficit widens every year." Interesting, given that the funded percentage was 65.8% in 2004 and was up to 78.8% funded in 2007. So I guess the pension deficit isn't widening every year. == ====== Next time JF, leave out the one time hard payment of the $100 million dollar tobacco money pension contribution, money that should have improved the quality of life of ALL San Diegans. See, a lucky windfall is nto a dedicated revenue stream. Also keep in mind all the extra money currently being thrown at the pension fund at the expense of roads, the sewer systems, parks, recreation, elderly and all the other benefits that all SD resients should receive but do not because the pesnion fund had hijacked the money so the connected few-like you- and receive an illegal retroactive gift. BTW- one last thing-that BOGUS 78.8% funding figure was fabricated by the current pension fund advisor. Mikes number of 68-70% is the true and correct funding number-and 68-70% is considered legally underfunded-even 78.8 % is.— September 8, 2008 8:07 a.m.

It's Official: Federal Government Seizes Fannie and Freddie. Will Reform Come Next?
Reform, who are you kidding Don. Did reform come with the Bear Stern's bailout????? Here is a good read-right up our ally on Wall Street nonsense; http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/arti…— September 7, 2008 2:56 p.m.

JF, the SD pension and healthcare deficit widens every year. The money going into the pension black hole is taking the money the city needs to maintain itself-like fixing roads and infrastructure, it takes recreation money from the poor, it takes away money from the library system-SD is funding the gold plated ensions to benefit the few FF/cops- at the expense of the many who are poor and middle class. As for the size of Vallejo-it really does not matter what size it is-just the legal holdings matter, which are that no assets are sold in a Muni BK, it all goes by cash flows. And for the red herring about the unions giving up 8.5% of pay...did you even read the 52 page decision??? The judge said the concessions the unions made were not enough and the City was NOT required to take the deal even if it would have been better. Also, the give away by the unions also gave the unions MORE money if the city filed BK later on-so it was really just another union scam. And the WSJ is the most widely read paper in America-so I think it is safe to say a good portion of San Diego reads it.— September 6, 2008 6:52 p.m.

JF, Vallejo IS a major city and this is a landmark case. The entire country was looking at Vallejo and what would happen- and now we know. And since BK Court is a federal court and what happens in a BK Court in Sacramento will have precedent at every BK Court in the country. BTW, the Chapter 9 BK for municipalities, it is a cash flow BK, not an asset/liability BK, so if San Diego files BK then all city property and other assets are fully protected-read the 52 page decision. Good reading, and you might actually learn a thing or two about the law.— September 6, 2008 11:53 a.m.

Speaking of pension scams, I was going to post this last night but could not find a good spot for it. Vallajo BK was approved, and the Vallejo FF's and cops are all going to have their pay and pension contracts adjusted. http://www.caeb.uscourts.gov/data/cortinfo/opinio… BOOM! Well, today the first major city fell to BK under unsustainable FF and cop pay and pensions. I expect several other CA cities and counties to follow suit very soon, including San Diego City, San Diego County, Orange County, Chula Vista and Oakland. http://www.caeb.uscourts.gov/data/cortinfo/opinio… BOOM!— September 5, 2008 11:46 p.m.
