Union-Tribune obituary Allard Roen omits mob connections
As to getting a "get out of jail free" card, those are reserved only for officials at SEDC and CCDC, as well as members of the City Council who put their fingers in the cookie jar. ==================== Exactly. The rich (i.e. like Bear Sterns Cos, Lehman Brothrs, Freddie Mac/Fannie Mae) get special treatment. . . . If the little guy goes BK it is called "personal responsibility". If the big boys go BK, like the chosen few above-it is called "saving the economy for the better good".— September 11, 2008 4:33 p.m.
CCDC Kills 7th and Market Project; Chairman Maas Says Related Group May Be Victim, Attacks Local Developer
Adding to my previous comment: Seems pretty fishy to me that the mayor had to "ask" Bonnie Dumanis to investigate. == ==== I wouldn't be surprised if Col. KFC Sanders is up to his eyeballs in the CCDC mess.— September 11, 2008 8:07 a.m.

Wow, that was a GREAT read! I had no idea La Costa was Mob financed and some of the big wigs used to hang there. The last San Diego story I heard that was mob related was that mob guy from Chicago-Petite or something similar-and this was when the Indians were just starting to open their casinos in the last 80's and this guy was trying to infiltrate them. Cool stuff.— September 10, 2008 10:03 p.m.
Port of San Diego makes wild proposal for Tenth Avenue terminal

Conservative Wall Street Journal Heaps Praise on Liberal Mike Aguirre, Citing His Pension Battle
Aguirre has a bit on his website stating that those benefits caused the system to be 2.5% less funded. (From 68.15% to 70.72%) And that was back in 2005 at the height of the issue. ==== ==== Please let me know were on the CA's website you found this info, because I am looking and do not see it; http://www.sandiego.gov/cityattorney/— September 9, 2008 12:15 p.m.

JF, an article in the UT is not "evidence" to prove up a pension fund claim. Sorry, but that is baloney. A different actuary hired by SDCERS, paid for by SDCERS, is also not evidence, more like a bias. As for Vallejo-I was simply pointing out what is going to happen here in San Diego. The legal precedent laid out in Vallejo will apply to a town of 500 or a city of 5 million-the holdings will apply the same regardless of size. So Vallejo and San Diego are no different in the eyes of a BK court. The PD and FD unions made a HUGE mistake in Vallejo, and now they are paying the price. The pensions are getting haircuts, the pay scales are getting haircuts, the benefits are getting haircuts. They rolled the dice and they lost. Does the SDPD/FD want to roll the dice too???? Go ahead, because once you roll it and lose there is no going back.— September 8, 2008 7:07 p.m.
It's Official: Federal Government Seizes Fannie and Freddie. Will Reform Come Next?
"If they had read the book, they would realize it deals with "enterprise to the benefit of both trading partners" (the only way to get an economy to grow equitably)....." ========================== Is that quote actually in the book?? I like it. We need to apply that concept to the USA trade imbalance and deficits.— September 8, 2008 6:57 p.m.

Don, have you seen the documentary I.O.U.S.A.? I haveb't yet, but I'm curious if it's worth seeing. ===== http://www.iousathemovie.com/— September 8, 2008 1:02 p.m.

Actually, Johnny, the city's actuary (Joseph Esuchanko) testified that the system is 90% funded. ==== === I have never seen ANYONE say the pension fund is at 90%-so provide a link. I'm calling BS. But if Joey did say that then Joey needs to put the crack pipe down. That dope is clouding his thinking. JF, you sound just like the Vallejo PD an FD who said the exact same thing you are saying right now-and look where they are.— September 8, 2008 11:35 a.m.

The dollar, almost worthless. I hear Europe is calling the dollar the "American Ruble" and might not take the dollar as currency anymore.... (OK that was a joke). We just keeping printing money like it was toilet paper-and that is going to be the ultimate value very soon.— September 8, 2008 11:31 a.m.
