Brandes Looks for Undervalued Stocks; Today, His Big Positions Are Certainly Valued Low in the Market
Could be worse, Brandes could have invested in student loan giant Sallie Mae, whose stock has dropped over 75% in the last 6 months-— February 7, 2008 3:18 p.m.
Government Employees Pull Far Ahead of Private Sector Employees in Pay, Fringes
I am telling you right now, if we have a stock market meltdown that will be it, the final straw that broke the camels back, There will be NO OTHER choice but bankruptcy, and not just us, but probably every gov municipality in this state.— February 5, 2008 4:40 p.m.

Poster #12-Paul, I like you! ...."copious overtime."...boy did you hit the home run with that statement! >>>I am saying that it is virtually meaningless to use this study to cry poverty.<<< CA FF's are receiving a median COMPENSATION of around $200K per year (in CA). That is in the top 1-3% of income earners nationwide. They need no, or very little, skills/experience prior to joing the FD or enteringthe Fire Academy-it is mostly OTJ (on the job training). They are very well compensated.— February 5, 2008 8:48 a.m.

I agree with #1 above about the so called "trickle down" baloney. It is a sham. But I would NOT call gov workers middle class oday, especially PD and FD, where they are paid in the top 3% of income earners in the nation (counting pay+ healthcare+ benefits+ OT+ pensions)— February 4, 2008 12:38 p.m.
Robert Allen Holding Classes in Getting Rich in Real Estate. Don't Expect Him to Mention His Chapter 7 Bankruptcy
#7. Plenty of people file Chapter 7 Bankruptcy and keep their homes. They usually have a homestead exemption as well as having taken much of the equity out. By sdblogger 6:20 p.m., Feb 2, 2008 ********* Not in CA. The Homestead exemption is $50K for an indivudual and I think $125K for couples. As for taking equity out of a home before filing BK, that would be considered fraud and violate BK law, and a discharge would NOT be granted on such circumstances. To Don- The homestead exemption in Florida, while still a sham, is $1 million dollars (20 times CA). So if you had any equity over that amount it would be tapped in BK. And you are correct-OJ and many other shamsters go to Florida for this very reason. This shows how screwed up the BK system is when it allows the states to vary so widely on a homestead exemption. CA has the HIGHEST home values in the nation, but has one of the LOWEST homestead exemptions in the nation. MASS reently raised their homestead exemption to $400K.— February 4, 2008 12:34 p.m.
2005 Audit Shows Internal Accounting Weaknesses; Despite Some Headway, Many More Improvements Must Be Made, Says Accounting Firm
Bottom line, you (as in all gov employees) do not deserve to "retire" at age 50, or engage in any of the other abuses. If it were up to me I would FORCE everyone-as in gov employees- into Social Security. As far as the rhetoric, I do it to stir the pot so to speak. I am the spoon that gets these issues front and center. And getting guys like you, Jeff Jordan and the others to meltdown gives me a little bit of a chuckle.— February 2, 2008 5:56 p.m.

JF-I have never been a Republican-ever. You just assume these types of things because I speak my mind on fiscal issues that are very serious-and they affect public employment I was a registered Democrat until recently, when Lou Dobbs convinced me to become an independant. And that is what I am, an independant. I am a member of both the ACLU and the NRA. I am a fiscal conservative and moderate to liberal on social issues. You may find that odd, but I am basically what many people are today-middle of the road-tired of the two party system. Not an extremist on either side. If you were a Ross Perot supporter in 92-before he dropped out- then you know how I feel. And I voted for Obama in the recent primary and will again in the Presidential election. So just because I want to stop the pension give aways do NOT assume I am some sort of hard core right wing Arthur Laffer or Bill O'Reilly.— February 2, 2008 9:37 a.m.

Nope, that is my registered trademark line. I invented it. But, even if Reagan did use it,and I do not concede that, that was 25 years ago buddy. This is today/— February 1, 2008 7:56 p.m.
