Boy oh boy, this is interesting. I think it is a male gay couple and one of the "boys" is a mom. And the M heart M means Male loves Male as well as Mom. Otherwise, it is a Vietnamese mom because Boy in Vietnamese, like in Chok-Boy, which is vegetarian, so the mom is a "Boy" (a vegetarian!). No?

Coronadans voice opinions on Spreckels Mansion death

It's not a fable. There are two dead bodies to prove it. I will not be surprised if little is said or done with this. This is a crime that occurred in "rich people's land," and things operate differently there: time moves slower for the rich; police are less inquisitive with the rich; and in rich people's land, evidence disappears like magic, and bodies dissolve into the ether. Pretty soon, you ask "What ever happened with those people that died in Coronado?" and the answer you get is "What people? What death?"

Mexico's Awe-Inspiring Copper Canyon

Mary, Great report. This is a trip I have always wanted to take. I once read that one could catch a ferry from someplace down the coast of Baja and take it over to Los Mochis. I believe the schedule was such that the day the ferry arrived, was not the day the train left for the canyon, so a night at a local hotel was required. Now I see the train is leaving daily. That is great. I would love to hear more details and perhaps view a few photos, if you have them posted anywhere else. ??? What I would really appreciate is how much the train tickets cost, and what is the weather like up there? I assume hot in the summer, cooler in the winter, but that leaves quite a range of possibilities. Any info most appreciated. Thanks.

Borders Bookstores Prepare to Close

It's always sad to hear of a bookstore closing, but Borders I can understand. The browsing was terrific, but the buying was downright painful. $26.00 for a novel? Especially when you consider you can probably get the book from the library in a few weeks. In today's economy the posh bookstore formula no longer works. Lots of people liked browsing there, but they went someplace else to eat. Like I said, sad, but no real surprise.

Wall Street Thrives on Main Street Pain

Nice article, as always, Don; You are right on about having 30% of your portfolio in the market right now, although I do wish I had more in during these recent rises. I trimmed things when the budget talks started, thinking it would push the market down and as usual, I missed the boat. Not sure what to expect from the market in response to the final budget deal. Care to make a prediction? As to jobs, the best route for many right now is to get into a technical training program at one of the community colleges or something through the San Diego Workforce Partnership. Those two are partnered up and offer the only affordable (if not free) training appropriate to the times. High tech and Health Sciences seem to be the two industries offering decent pay and job stability, although the tech field may require one to be prepared to jump ship for another outfit should circumstances (and profitability) go south. I've heard way too many regrets from those who made the mistake of signing on to a private "college" or training program only to end up owing $30K or more for something as basic as a pharmacy tech certificate, which most often turns out to be nothing more than a cashier job at $8.00 and hour. While living in a vacation destination has its benefits, hotels and restaurants are not going to put workers back in shape to score a mortgage, and consequently put our local economy back on track. This is going to be a long road. Keep up the great work.

Jerry, So sorry to hear of your health issues. I wish you the best with it. It was your book that gave me the assurances I needed to venture out into the desert for the first time in my life many years ago. Since then it has been from Carrizo Gorge to Palm Canyon, always with a quick check of your book to make certain my path was right. I fell in love with that strange land and thanks to you and your book, I was able to explore many, many, miles and altitudes and experience so much unexpected joy and wonder. I cannot express the joy your words allowed me to experience, except to simply say I could not have done it without your guidance and wisdom. Thank you for your efforts, and for opening up an exciting and fascinating world to myself and many others, I am sure. You will be missed, Amigo, but you will never be forgotten--at least not by this generation of hikers and explorers. Thank you for all you've done and for opening up this wild and beautiful world to so many.
