Jacumba trusts Dave Landman, the naked guy
It will be interesting to see if Mr. Landman succeeds. I'd like to see Jacumba become something more than it is now, but I suspect there are quite a few folks who live there who like it the way it is and would say they live there because of the quiet atmosphere. I don't think they will want the place to become like Palm Springs.

At the World’s End: Bombay Beach and the Salton Sea
Sonny Bono thought it was worth a shot. Unfortunately, his death resulted in a lack of leadership for the idea. Maybe it needs a massive inflow of water for a short period of time. Sort of the way it was last formed by the breaching of the Colorado through some dams. Twister, yes, Big Daddy Gummint can and should fix the problem. Look at all the dead fish; look at the disgusting chemical ponds; that's what Big Daddy Private Enterprise got you. Big Daddy Gummint has built the grandest, the largest, the most impressive and useful things this country has ever seen. And it will be Big Daddy Gummint who will build the next one, just as soon as the people get the power back from the profit-oriented scumbags who leave us with messes like the Salton Sea.

At the World’s End: Bombay Beach and the Salton Sea
I cannot believe what has happened to the Salton Sea. My family visited it many years ago and we all swam along with dozens of other people and watched water skiiers fly across the water, towed by powerful motorboats. I think steps should be taken to save the Salton Sea. I think a certain amount of water from the Colorado or the canals in the area could be channeled in and would eventually revive the Sea and reduce the salinity. The Sea is clearly an unappreciated and neglected asset. I don't understand the community that is there, allows the area to become so blighted. I realize it would be a big undertaking, but people can put some boots and gloves on and go and haul out all that submerged trash. Just because the area did not turn into the gold mine they thought it was going to be, is no reason to let the place go totally to hell. Having a rare thing like the Sea in the middle of the desert is a blessing that should not be squandered. I hope someone somewhere will take the necessary steps to save it.

Surfpuppy619 Yes, anyone with knowledge of them knows that--but anyone with little knowledge or experience with them will see that cover and think they are horrible, nasty critters, and wonder why anyone would want to have one. Especially when they read the part about reports concerning the danger of having ferrets. "...and another from Reno in which a baby with milk breath got its lip clawed by a ferret (a verified account) to the extent that it required plastic surgery." Oh yea; I definitely want one of those little rats running around my house. Seriously?

It's worse than misleading; it completely undermines any good will or sympathy the article might have otherwise created. Whoever made this call really screwed up. I'll bet even the ferret people are sorry they talked to this reporter, now that they've seen the cover.

Tijuana Bordello Busted
My understanding is it is legal anywhere in Mexico. And those "underage" girls were not really underage. It could be prostitution is legal, but pimping (pandering) is not. In other words, direct sales only--no middle men. Who knew?

San Diego cab driver caught in the middle of patient dumping
Their problem is they are not unionized. If they had a union, they would have someone to advocate for them and push for changes in the law that would help with their problems. They are easy to conquer because each of them stands alone.

On with Their Heads
Well, I don't see a problem with doing away with the death penalty. It doesn't seem to do much good, and in the eyes of the rest of the world, makes our society look as though we have the same mentality as the criminals. But, I couldn't agree with you more, Visduh, when it comes to Jacobs political machinations. What this man is trying to do in terms of Balboa Park, for example, is baffling. I saw the plans that were proposed, and they all look like somebody stayed on the merry-go-round too long. The roads go here and there and around this way and that, all for the purpose "supposedly" of clearing traffic from the Prado Circle in front of the Art Museum, so the park will look more like it did back in 1915. Oh, that and installing an underground parking garage that will charge $8.00 to park in the area that was previously free. Granted, there will be more parking spaces, but with that charge, many may sit empty. The idea of trying to accommodate the increased traffic and lack of parking overlooks the fact that many people come to the park because it is free. It cost nothing to park there and take the family for a fun stroll, usually with lots of free entertainment as well. But once people realize they may have to fork over $8.00 to park, then they might just as well go down to Seaport Village, or out to the beaches, or any number of places, where that $8.00 can obtain an alternate recreational experience. Jacobs should let the wife do the planning. She seems to be more in tune with the needs of San Diego, and knows improvements such as those planned for Balboa Park, should not come with a price of admission to the public.

Gas Pipeline Ruptured in Midway District
This comes as no surprise. Ever since the Broken Yolk opened there, the smell of rotten eggs has permeated the area. I guess it finally got into the pipelines and was too much for the old pipes.

Jacumba trusts Dave Landman, the naked guy
It will be interesting to see if Mr. Landman succeeds. I'd like to see Jacumba become something more than it is now, but I suspect there are quite a few folks who live there who like it the way it is and would say they live there because of the quiet atmosphere. At the World’s End: Bombay Beach and the Salton Sea
Sonny Bono thought it was worth a shot. Unfortunately, his death resulted in a lack of leadership for the idea. Maybe it needs a massive inflow of water for a short period of time. Sort of the way it was last formed by the breaching of the Colorado through some dams. Twister, yes, Big Daddy Gummint can and should fix the problem. Look at all the dead fish; look at the disgusting chemical ponds; that's what Big Daddy Private Enterprise got you. Big Daddy Gummint has built the grandest, the largest, the most impressive and useful things this country has ever seen. And it will be Big Daddy Gummint who will build the next one, just as soon as the people get the power back from the profit-oriented scumbags who leave us with messes like the Salton Sea.— May 12, 2012 8:18 a.m.

I cannot believe what has happened to the Salton Sea. My family visited it many years ago and we all swam along with dozens of other people and watched water skiiers fly across the water, towed by powerful motorboats. I think steps should be taken to save the Salton Sea. I think a certain amount of water from the Colorado or the canals in the area could be channeled in and would eventually revive the Sea and reduce the salinity. The Sea is clearly an unappreciated and neglected asset. I don't understand the community that is there, allows the area to become so blighted. I realize it would be a big undertaking, but people can put some boots and gloves on and go and haul out all that submerged trash. Just because the area did not turn into the gold mine they thought it was going to be, is no reason to let the place go totally to hell. Having a rare thing like the Sea in the middle of the desert is a blessing that should not be squandered. I hope someone somewhere will take the necessary steps to save it.— May 11, 2012 5:23 p.m.

Surfpuppy619 Yes, anyone with knowledge of them knows that--but anyone with little knowledge or experience with them will see that cover and think they are horrible, nasty critters, and wonder why anyone would want to have one. Especially when they read the part about reports concerning the danger of having ferrets. "...and another from Reno in which a baby with milk breath got its lip clawed by a ferret (a verified account) to the extent that it required plastic surgery." Tijuana Bordello Busted
My understanding is it is legal anywhere in Mexico. And those "underage" girls were not really underage. It could be prostitution is legal, but pimping (pandering) is not. In other words, direct sales only--no middle men. Who knew?— May 5, 2012 10:03 p.m.

Their problem is they are not unionized. If they had a union, they would have someone to advocate for them and push for changes in the law that would help with their problems. They are easy to conquer because each of them stands alone.— May 3, 2012 1:38 p.m.
On with Their Heads
Well, I don't see a problem with doing away with the death penalty. It doesn't seem to do much good, and in the eyes of the rest of the world, makes our society look as though we have the same mentality as the criminals. But, I couldn't agree with you more, Visduh, when it comes to Jacobs political machinations. What this man is trying to do in terms of Balboa Park, for example, is baffling. I saw the plans that were proposed, and they all look like somebody stayed on the merry-go-round too long. The roads go here and there and around this way and that, all for the purpose "supposedly" of clearing traffic from the Prado Circle in front of the Art Museum, so the park will look more like it did back in 1915. Oh, that and installing an underground parking garage that will charge $8.00 to park in the area that was previously free. Granted, there will be more parking spaces, but with that charge, many may sit empty. The idea of trying to accommodate the increased traffic and lack of parking overlooks the fact that many people come to the park because it is free. It cost nothing to park there and take the family for a fun stroll, usually with lots of free entertainment as well. But once people realize they may have to fork over $8.00 to park, then they might just as well go down to Seaport Village, or out to the beaches, or any number of places, where that $8.00 can obtain an alternate recreational experience. Jacobs should let the wife do the planning. She seems to be more in tune with the needs of San Diego, and knows improvements such as those planned for Balboa Park, should not come with a price of admission to the public.— May 3, 2012 12:48 p.m.
Gas Pipeline Ruptured in Midway District
This comes as no surprise. Ever since the Broken Yolk opened there, the smell of rotten eggs has permeated the area. I guess it finally got into the pipelines and was too much for the old pipes.— May 3, 2012 10:41 a.m.
