At the World’s End: Ghost Mountain, Anza-Borrego
Yes, I've noticed that quite a few of the hikes they publish seem wrong for the season. I don't know why they don't publish hikes that would be more appropriate for the current weather. It seems they don't care about things like that as long as they publish "something." Otherwise, I did enjoy your article. I've been up Ghost Mountain and even in the best weather, it still amazes me that the Souths lived there year round. I heard the temp in Borrego the other day was 115 degrees. Yikes. Looking forward to your next article. Keep your boots dry and your whistle wet.

At the World’s End: Ghost Mountain, Anza-Borrego
Amy, With temperatures at or around 110 degrees, are you really recommending people hike up Ghost Mountain now? Did you do your hike recently?

San Diego photographer Larry Hoagland tries to kill wife... twice
Notice how the deeply psychotic also tend to be religious? If you can indulge one delusion, you can indulge another. This guy ought to have a pipe bomb shoved up his .....brain hole. Imagine a man married to a woman for 20+ years, with young adult kids, putting a pipe bomb at his wife's feet? I so hope the boys in the pen make his life a living hell.

Normal Heights the New Gaslamp?
University Heights - not North Park? Normal Heights - not University Heights? Ole Behe? Excuse me? Does anyone actually know what is where? As for University and/or Normal Heights, or North Park for that matter, becoming like the Gaslamp, I seriously doubt that is going to happen--in any of those neighborhoods! And I hope it never does. Who wants to pay $36.00 for a "medallion of lasagna"? People need to realize that the Gaslamp pulls a lot of big bucks from the swanky hotels along the harbor, as well as the fat cat residents that live in the condos down there. People who are accustomed to strolling along the harbor side after dinner are not going to feel the same way about El Cajon Blvd. These are very different breeds of cats living in these neighborhoods and I've never agreed with that movie maxim: "If you build it, they will come." Getting them to come has never been the problem; it's getting them to come back. I wish these guys luck with the new place. In spite of the planned expansion, they've still got some big shoes to fill.

New SOHO Lawsuit Challenges Plaza de Panama Plan
Highest priority on people, my foot! This hair-brained scheme should be dropped and the sooner the better. The reason people do not congregate in the plaza in front of the Museum of Man is because there is nothing there! Even if there were no traffic, there is not much reason to hang around there. You can only stare at the architecture detail of the Museum of Man for so long. There is no fountain there; no food vendors; no benches to sit on, and no trees for shade. There is just not much reason to stay there. At the other end of the Prado, in front of the Natural History Museum and the Science Museum, there is the fountain; the cafe in front of the Science Museum; other food vendors; and lots of nice places to sit under the shade of the trees. It is convenient if one wants to stroll over the foot bridge to the cactus and/or the rose gardens. You've got several museums right there and it's a short walk over to Spanish Village. It's a great place to stroll and sit awhile. Even if the traffic were eliminated from the traffic circle in front of the Art Museum, it would not be as attractive a place to spend time, as the other end is. I do not understand why Mr. Jacobs, or anyone else thinks the traffic is a major problem. By allowing cars to enter the park over Cabrillo Bridge, it completes a loop that give people easy access to the entire park. The "benefits" of the alteration proposed in the modification plan is just not worth the trouble-- unless you feel "you just have to make some money" from all the people coming to the park. Or, you have plans to expand the food services currently available either in the Prado or the Art Museum's sculpture garden, maybe add another "Prado" type restaurant. Otherwise, there isn't any sensible reason to make any of the proposed changes, and that is not even taking into consideration the historical value that would be seriously diminished. Like I said, a hair-brained scheme. Jacobs should stick to cell phones and missile guidance systems and leave the maintenance of San Diego's history to those who have studied it and demonstrated an expertise and appreciation for the qualities and values that make San Diego the beautiful city it is and has been for many, many years.

Dangerous/Classy Fans at Offspring’s Del Mar Show
Dangerous, maybe; but classy? Not by a long shot. Between this debacle and the ridiculous water fight mess that took place in Balboa Park last night, I'm starting to think someone put stupid juice in the tattoo ink.

Car Crashes Inside Point Loma Laundromat
Yup. You're racist. Everyone knows it's the Mexicans that can't drive. And the Italians can't talk right....and the Irish cannot drink for the life o' them! The truth is...Shhhhh! It's the women. Seriously, have you ever seen the trouble they have with parallel parking? They don't get the part about "turn left, while in reverse, and you will go right." They don't get it; they've never got it; and thank God, the car companies have recognized this and are now making the cars that park themselves--because the women can't do it! But don't tell anyone I said that.

San Diego's successful Thrift Trader
Welcome back, John. Auto Bio Mesmerism? Sounds like something I've been looking for...or suffering from, all my life. I'll have to go check that store out. Sounds like the real magical mystery tour. Sometimes you find a store that is more than just a store. Keeps things interesting.

Eye gnat infestations in south Escondido – end of local organic food farming?
Well, it depends on what you consider "genetic engineering." Everything on the organic food table is the result of genetic engineering. It's just that years ago it was done by grafting and cross-pollination techniques and not at a lab. The goal was the same; to improve the product, make it more resistant to rot, bugs, whatever. If you've ever come across an apple tree in an abandoned orchard, you can see what happens without some human intervention. The fruit is virtually inedible. Organic processes do not proceed with the idea of making food more palatable or healthy for human beings. Makes me laugh when I hear the foodies say "they ought to leave the food alone." Does anyone really think that broccoli and lettuce and carrots all came from nature just the way they are now? I'm not in favor of our food getting dosed with chemicals, but if scientists can tweak the dna of a tomato to make it more frost resistant, I say "go for it."

Keep your boots dry and your whistle wet.— August 16, 2012 10:36 p.m.
At the World’s End: Ghost Mountain, Anza-Borrego
Amy, With temperatures at or around 110 degrees, are you really recommending people hike up Ghost Mountain now? Did you do your hike recently?— August 16, 2012 6:16 p.m.
I so hope the boys in the pen make his life a living hell.— August 16, 2012 10:52 a.m.
In spite of the planned expansion, they've still got some big shoes to fill.— August 16, 2012 12:02 a.m.
Jacobs should stick to cell phones and missile guidance systems and leave the maintenance of San Diego's history to those who have studied it and demonstrated an expertise and appreciation for the qualities and values that make San Diego the beautiful city it is and has been for many, many years.— August 14, 2012 10:39 p.m.
Dangerous/Classy Fans at Offspring’s Del Mar Show
Dangerous, maybe; but classy? Not by a long shot. Between this debacle and the ridiculous water fight mess that took place in Balboa Park last night, I'm starting to think someone put stupid juice in the tattoo ink.— August 12, 2012 10:48 p.m.
But don't tell anyone I said that.— August 12, 2012 9:02 p.m.
Keeps things interesting.— August 9, 2012 12:06 p.m.
I'm not in favor of our food getting dosed with chemicals, but if scientists can tweak the dna of a tomato to make it more frost resistant, I say "go for it."— August 9, 2012 10:25 a.m.
