Ah, Link Wray. Now you're getting downright holy, John. Sounds like you and your son are in the thick of it down there. Ringside seats for the American version of "Clash of the Civilizations." The well dressed lady from the $600K condo politely walking her poodle around the the homeless guy sprawled on the sidewalk in a puddle of piss. Father Joe and the dyke nun battling for more Village for lost souls, versus the Downtown Development Brigade with their pockets overflowing with our money. An interesting place during interesting times, John. Bear witness and let us know how goes the battle.

Artist’s O.B. Bathroom Ceiling Project Criticized

Yea, think about it: our farts will be offended and our piss will have its feelings hurt. That's what I mean--what is this guy, Russell, complaining about? It all has to be taken in context; who in their right mind would say "the artist used bad words"? Especially since the words had already been published in The OB Rag. Totally nutso.

Artist’s O.B. Bathroom Ceiling Project Criticized

So what? I think if the artist drew his inspiration for the words from the OB Rag, that would make it even cooler. What is it that Russell is complaining about? People should know that men do not look up at the ceiling when they go into the men's room. They look at the floor first, to try to avoid walking through piss. Then they look at their target, just out of consideration, in an effort to be neat (most men do). I've been in a men's room many times and I doubt I ever looked up at the ceiling. The last time I was at the OB facility, mainly because it was my first time in the new structure, I did look up when I walked out and noticed the words on the underside of the roof. I had no idea they were inside too. My reaction was the usual one when I'm viewing abstract art: WTF? But seriously, it's just a public bathroom at the beach in OB. I'm grateful they built them at all. Who gives a hoot how they decorate it?

Travel with Your Dog in CA

Yes! Bring lots and lots of poop bags. And please remember that owning a pet means more than just feeding them and walking them and picking up their poop--it also means you need to occasionally brush the dog if it is a breed that sheds, and give the poor mutt a bath once in awhile. I cannot believe the number I encounter that shed a handful of hair with every stroke when I'm petting them, and it's not just hair coming from the dog--the stench makes me wonder why someone would want to own a dog if they are not going to care for it? Yes--dogs need baths too! Wake up, owners! No one minds you bringing your dog out where others sit, and shop, converse, and play, but your dog's presence should not make the experience less pleasant for others as a result.

Say Bye to Tijuana’s Turnstile Entryway

I hear what you're saying Refried; it's just that Mexico is a place that is not hung up about things like blood-alcohol content. It was always a refreshing change to go down there. The general rule tended to be: Be respectful, but have a good time. Behave was not necessarily what we went down there to do. Never had any problems. Always a great, mutually beneficial time for us and those we met. I'd be interested in hearing if the crossing time has improved or not.

Say Bye to Tijuana’s Turnstile Entryway

Definitely the end of an era. I remember going through those clanging turnstiles, thinking that clanging is a warning bell there to remind you, you are entering a place where the rules are very different, and there may not even be any rules at all. Loved it, and walked even faster. Can't wait to see the result of all these changes.
