Mr. Filner needs to be careful not to make the typical newbie mistake of appeasing the first contingent of screaming ninnies he encounters. He should have dug deeper into the issue on this one before making a decision.

Report says downtown bias colors debate over costly new San Diego city hall
Oh. We're going to have a task force to oversee the RFP's and leases for kayak concessions at La Jolla Shores, but we speed ball the lease to a property like the Bahia Resort? Curious. I think it is time for the City to take advantage of the technology we now have and not be locked into particular geographical locations. Private industry quickly realized that most business can be conducted via email and phone and also allowed certain employees to telecommute. I don't see the City doing quite that, but it would make sense to move various departments to other parts of town, especially those along the trolley lines, and turn the expense of downtown locations into income producing properties. In this age of the Internet, physical proximity is pretty much meaningless.

Opening this week
That's disappointing to read. I was hoping Les Miz was going to turn out well in spite of my reservations after hearing who was cast in it. Les Miz was the only musical I've ever been able to sit through, well, that and film version of West Side Story from way back when. It seems a lot of producers think it's all a matter of face-- you just throw the right faces on the screen and nothing can go wrong. Not. I just hope this film doesn't turn people away from seeing the staged version. It is truly a great story and when done by a good company, a fantastic and very moving production to see.

We went to Mexico to get ahead. We smuggled cheese to get back.
Well, it appears to me like it would add up to primo prices, but the fact is we don't actually know what they're paying so it is hard to judge. It just strikes me as an odd and pricey way to get groceries. I'm curious to know what is being purchased that can't be had at a good, local mercado.

Guns for groceries trade offered by Sheriff's Department
This is great. Lots of guns being taken off the street. But what I don't understand is, if it is a "no questions asked" thing...and it turns out after some forensic investigation, that one of these guns was used in a murder...does that mean the police are aiding in the disposal of a murder weapon? Maybe it's "no questions asked," but lots of video taken.

We went to Mexico to get ahead. We smuggled cheese to get back.
I didn't know what to make of this story at first. I thought sure there must be more than meets the eye going on. I mean who smuggles groceries? I thought the organizers must be stashing some drugs in the cheese, or putting them in the car without the driver knowing-- but the dogs would have caught it. Plus, what is so special about this food? Yea, I know-- there's nothing like real Oaxaca cheese. But I'm under the impression that tons of it are legally shipped in regularly. You mean to tell me that Mexican folk in the US are willing to pay primo prices for home made? It just doesn't seem to make sense on the face of it.

McGrory to Borrego's rescue?
Well, the way I see it, Borrego Springs is like the "Little Engine that could," except this little engine just can't seem to quite make it over the mountain. I've seen some real huff and puff and running starts aimed at bringing Borrego Springs back to life, but it's always up, up, and....down. I think Don hit on it when he pointed out that it's a long way from a main highway. That means mostly "destination traffic." For anyone other than desert rats like myself, there just is nothing there. The golf set prefers not to get their shoes dirty, so they are not interested in seeing the mountain sheep up in Palm Canyon. And those metal statues out on the mesas are great for a quick photo op, but once people get on the road, they liable to shoot out to the Salton Sea and that will be the end of anyone thinking there's a great future in desert real estate. I don't know how I missed those grocery stores. Maybe better signage would help. Believe me, I'd love to see Borrego Springs experience a big economic bounce but there just has to be more and better reasons to go there.

Arellano Félix kidnapping kingpin caught
Numerous warrants since 1996, and yet hired by the police force. Never arrested until 2008 and then released for lack of evidence. That's why gringos don't understand south of the border. You just don't know where the walls are. You can't count on the foundation of law to be there under your next step. Makes for very unpredictable walking.

Mexican eagle and jaguar? Matthew? I believe the Mexican flag shows an eagle holding a snake in its beak and talons, landing on a cactus. The jaguar might be the vehicle El Presidente tools around in, but I don't see one here.

Report says downtown bias colors debate over costly new San Diego city hall
Oh. We're going to have a task force to oversee the RFP's and leases for kayak concessions at La Jolla Shores, but we speed ball the lease to a property like the Bahia Resort? Curious. I think it is time for the City to take advantage of the technology we now have and not be locked into particular geographical locations. Private industry quickly realized that most business can be conducted via email and phone and also allowed certain employees to telecommute. I don't see the City doing quite that, but it would make sense to move various departments to other parts of town, especially those along the trolley lines, and turn the expense of downtown locations into income producing properties. In this age of the Internet, physical proximity is pretty much meaningless.— December 20, 2012 12:51 p.m.

Opening this week
That's disappointing to read. I was hoping Les Miz was going to turn out well in spite of my reservations after hearing who was cast in it. Les Miz was the only musical I've ever been able to sit through, well, that and film version of West Side Story from way back when. It seems a lot of producers think it's all a matter of face-- you just throw the right faces on the screen and nothing can go wrong. Not. I just hope this film doesn't turn people away from seeing the staged version. It is truly a great story and when done by a good company, a fantastic and very moving production to see.— December 20, 2012 11:44 a.m.

Well, it appears to me like it would add up to primo prices, but the fact is we don't actually know what they're paying so it is hard to judge. It just strikes me as an odd and pricey way to get groceries. I'm curious to know what is being purchased that can't be had at a good, local mercado.— December 20, 2012 11:31 a.m.
Guns for groceries trade offered by Sheriff's Department
This is great. Lots of guns being taken off the street. But what I don't understand is, if it is a "no questions asked" thing...and it turns out after some forensic investigation, that one of these guns was used in a murder...does that mean the police are aiding in the disposal of a murder weapon? I didn't know what to make of this story at first. I thought sure there must be more than meets the eye going on. I mean who smuggles groceries? I thought the organizers must be stashing some drugs in the cheese, or putting them in the car without the driver knowing-- but the dogs would have caught it. Plus, what is so special about this food? Yea, I know-- there's nothing like real Oaxaca cheese. But I'm under the impression that tons of it are legally shipped in regularly. You mean to tell me that Mexican folk in the US are willing to pay primo prices for home made? It just doesn't seem to make sense on the face of it.— December 19, 2012 11:14 p.m.
McGrory to Borrego's rescue?
Well, the way I see it, Borrego Springs is like the "Little Engine that could," except this little engine just can't seem to quite make it over the mountain. I've seen some real huff and puff and running starts aimed at bringing Borrego Springs back to life, but it's always up, up, and....down. I think Don hit on it when he pointed out that it's a long way from a main highway. That means mostly "destination traffic." For anyone other than desert rats like myself, there just is nothing there. The golf set prefers not to get their shoes dirty, so they are not interested in seeing the mountain sheep up in Palm Canyon. And those metal statues out on the mesas are great for a quick photo op, but once people get on the road, they liable to shoot out to the Salton Sea and that will be the end of anyone thinking there's a great future in desert real estate. I don't know how I missed those grocery stores. Maybe better signage would help. Believe me, I'd love to see Borrego Springs experience a big economic bounce but there just has to be more and better reasons to go there.— December 19, 2012 9:10 p.m.

Numerous warrants since 1996, and yet hired by the police force. Never arrested until 2008 and then released for lack of evidence. That's why gringos don't understand south of the border. You just don't know where the walls are. You can't count on the foundation of law to be there under your next step. Makes for very unpredictable walking.— December 19, 2012 7:41 p.m.

Mexican eagle and jaguar? Matthew? I believe the Mexican flag shows an eagle holding a snake in its beak and talons, landing on a cactus. The jaguar might be the vehicle El Presidente tools around in, but I don't see one here.— December 19, 2012 7:29 p.m.
