Car crashes onto beach at Sunset Cliffs
Well, I did hear they were going to open up more parking spaces in OB.

Fugitive in custody after standoff in Imperial Beach
Yes, giving them a chance to surrender is key, but taking a shot at the guy as he goes over a fence doesn't sound like there was much effort to do that.

Fugitive in custody after standoff in Imperial Beach
Wow. I didn't think "shoot on sight" orders were still being issued. I didn't read anything about the suspect being armed, so I have to assume the idea is to kill first and sort out the details later? I guess it's a case of, "We are SWAT, Baby, we don't need no stinkin' legal procedures!"

Mayor to take off two weeks for therapy
I think he will end up having the majority of his counseling sessions at City Hall. I mean, this is not heroin addiction we are talking about here. A behavioral counselor can do their work anywhere and it may actually be more beneficial for the counseling to take place while he is in the work environment. The fact is, this type of counseling is not that uncommon and has taken place in many corporations and organizations for years. Employees are read the new rules and given a few examples of offensive behavior and that is pretty much it. This is not rocket science either. You may have been an offender before but once management makes it clear that kind of behavior will no longer be tolerated, things change and everyone changes with them or else. Mayor Filner has arrived at the "or else" stage and what happens next remains to be seen. If he does change his behavior and no longer offends, then I say, he deserves the chance to perform the duties of mayor as the majority of the citizens of San Diego elected him to. He should not be removed from office by a bunch of political machinists who think they have found a way to change the results of an election without having to win it.

Laura Fink's campaign role with Todd Gloria
No one is more disgusted and disappointed with the mayor's behavior than I am. But Don is right--this is far from outlaw behavior. I don't know what the deal is with the mayor and his apparently relentless pursuit of a kiss, but I have yet to hear anything more than reports of bad behavior. If these incompetent attempts at romance are all there is, then I don't see what is required other than a stern warning to the mayor to knock off the grab ass and if he doesn't, he should be recalled. But I don't hear anything about illegal activities, and Don makes some excellent points in stating the behavior stopped when the mayor was told to do so. He does seem to understand "no." I think this whole thing is in large part the sharks smelling blood in the water and a possible opportunity to off the only progressive-minded, liberal mayor we have had in years. The big dogs just don't like the way he plays the game and see his boorish behavior as a chance to be rid of him. Let's be honest; this town is filled with people who are not exactly waltzing around the learning curve of the new paradigm. The mayor is going through a huge learning experience, and let's hope it takes, but let's not toss out the only guy who has the guts to stand up to the big-money, downtown shakers, because he misbehaves with the ladies. There is a big difference between trying to steal a kiss and making off with the taxpayers money. I can't believe how local dems are allowing themselves to be played on this one. I once worked with a woman who would occasionally come out with an off-color, raunchy joke, at which we had a good laugh. Then one day I shared a story with her about a woman I met who had her tongue pierced and I mentioned the reason the woman said she had it done was for oral sex. My co-worker quickly turned on me and said, "I could have you brought up on charges for saying that." That's when I realized that women seemed to have an extra card in the deck they played with, and they could choose to play it whenever they wanted. This particular lady never played her card but I realized that if she had, it would not have mattered about the jokes she previously told me. I would have stood accused and that was all it would have taken for me to be let go from the organization we worked for. There is no democracy in a corporation. I'm not sure why the mayors "friends" are playing their cards now, but I do believe cards are definitely in play and when you can't win with the cards you've been dealt, it's nice to have an extra card.

Trayvon Martin demonstration comes between Westboro Baptist Church protesters and the Comic-Con crowd
Talk about spoilers -- I was down there and these bible nuts were really a pain in the ass. Some came prepared to counter them, but the fact that they were there at all really sucked. Seems you can't have a fun time these days without the bible-thumping wingnuts telling you you're going to hell. Everyone was having a great time with the exception of these people who want to force you to believe their nonsense.

Daylong drunk in Ocean Beach
I didn't think sober people were allowed in OB.

Daylong drunk in Ocean Beach
Ouch! Have mercy on Mercy, Schlomo. The guy got drunk; the guy got kicked out of all the bars for starting fights; the guy got busted. What more do you want to know? Was he read his Miranda rights?

San Quintín, Baja’s newest city
San Quintin is an interesting area. I used to go down there with a couple of marine biologists who were looking for certain kinds of nudibranchs (colorful sea slugs). There are still some remnants of an old English colony/settlement from the 19th c. to incude what is left of a pier and an old grist mill. The Brits tried raising wheat to ship by rail and sea but it never worked out. I hear the Chinese are setting up abalone farms down there now. The only town I know of where the roads are half asphalt and half tomato, which is the major crop down there. Tons of the love apples litter the roads; droppings from the many tomato trucks hauling loads through the area.

Loews Coronado: “Get off the beach, dog”
This is a consequence of the "corporatization" of community events. Petco, yes/Locals, no. Totally sucks, and the gestapo, quick to lick the hand that donates to their fundraising events, are more than happy to illegally escort a citizen off the property, all the while professing to "prefer to use mediation." Since when does an event coordinator tell the police what the law is? And the donkeys just do what they are told! And I don't know what they mean when they say, "people try to drag us into civil issues," when they are pushing people off the beach and not being "dragged" into anything. Someone ought to drag them into court and maybe they can get the re-education they badly need.

Car crashes onto beach at Sunset Cliffs
Well, I did hear they were going to open up more parking spaces in OB.— July 29, 2013 6:45 p.m.
Fugitive in custody after standoff in Imperial Beach
Yes, giving them a chance to surrender is key, but taking a shot at the guy as he goes over a fence doesn't sound like there was much effort to do that.— July 29, 2013 6:39 p.m.
Fugitive in custody after standoff in Imperial Beach
Wow. I didn't think "shoot on sight" orders were still being issued. I didn't read anything about the suspect being armed, so I have to assume the idea is to kill first and sort out the details later? I guess it's a case of, "We are SWAT, Baby, we don't need no stinkin' legal procedures!"— July 28, 2013 10:33 p.m.
He should not be removed from office by a bunch of political machinists who think they have found a way to change the results of an election without having to win it.— July 27, 2013 11:13 a.m.
I'm not sure why the mayors "friends" are playing their cards now, but I do believe cards are definitely in play and when you can't win with the cards you've been dealt, it's nice to have an extra card.— July 25, 2013 6:12 p.m.
Everyone was having a great time with the exception of these people who want to force you to believe their nonsense. http://sandiegoreader.com/users/photos/2013/jul/2… http://sandiegoreader.com/users/photos/2013/jul/2…— July 23, 2013 8:23 p.m.
Daylong drunk in Ocean Beach

Daylong drunk in Ocean Beach
Ouch! Have mercy on Mercy, Schlomo. The guy got drunk; the guy got kicked out of all the bars for starting fights; the guy got busted. What more do you want to know? Was he read his Miranda rights?— July 18, 2013 8:13 p.m.
Tons of the love apples litter the roads; droppings from the many tomato trucks hauling loads through the area.— July 5, 2013 6:25 p.m.
Someone ought to drag them into court and maybe they can get the re-education they badly need.— July 3, 2013 11:37 p.m.
