Majority of asylum seekers at Otay Mesa are from violent state of Michoacán
I would like to know how a person applying for asylum is dealt with as compared to a person applying to immigrate into the U.S.. As to the drug war, you got that right, Dioge, the war on drugs has been a huge gift to the security-related industries. It has also resulted in massive overcrowding in the prisons. IMHO, the forces engaged in fighting this so-call war, are the last who would actually want it to come to an end. There is way too much money involved on both sides.

Woman in Ocean Beach spits on, fights Arizona tourist
Pit-tooey! There goes a spitball. Everybody duck! Personally, I don't judge people by their point of origin. I say, it's not where you're from, so much as it is where you're at.

Old Town: Back from the dead with a deal
Score, Ed! Without a doubt, hands down, the best deal in town! I will be working my way through the menu.

Woman in Ocean Beach spits on, fights Arizona tourist
I don't know how they do it in Arizona, but here in San Diego, unless someone is bleeding profusely or a gun is involved, the cops will probably not bother responding to your call. I've seen a guy who assaulted a local shopper, held on the ground by a security guard, and it was 40 minutes after the guard called, before the cops arrived. Unless it's another cop, in which case they will be there in minutes, the cops here don't seem to feel assisting local citizens in distress is a high priority. They are very good at attending community meetings and even demanding they have a shed to store their bicycles, but getting involved in local assaults is not really something they are into. Now, shooting unarmed homeless people or women with children...well, I don't want to get off topic here, but bottom line is, you can call for help but don't hold your breath, Zonies.

Who's investigating Filner? It's who's NOT investigating him
Salem witch trials would be more like it. I can't believe the number showing up in hopes of seeing a good burning at the stake. And these women; never offended enough to say anything when it happened, but now, so deeply offended; so terribly damaged they may never recover. It's a good thing someone pointed out to them how offended they are, otherwise they might have missed it. They seem to be waiting in the wings for their cue from the suddenly puritan political hopefuls. I wish every woman who has ever had a guy make a pass, try for a kiss, or maybe give them a slightly too tender a squeeze, would come forward. I wonder how many women there would be if every one who can recall a time when some guy might have gone a little too far, would come forward and be counted. This is not to excuse the mayor. Oh, he's a horndog alright. There's no doubt about that. He had better learn his lessons and learn them good during this rehab. But no one has said he's a crook. No one is pointing to any clear and indisputable violations of law. In fact, what seems to be emerging as a surprise in spite of all the heat and noise, is that what few policies Filner is responsible for, are working out quite well. The feedback on the implementation of his counter proposal for Balboa Park has been very good. Everyone seems to be happy that the Cabrillo Bridge did not have to be bastardized in order to alleviate a traffic and parking problem. Of course, the Prado restaurant reneged on the original agreement and is back to having their customers provided with valet parking, spoiling what was for a very short time an ideal traffic pattern. No one seems sure what to do with all the open space, but Filner's idea did accomplish the goal and did it without spending millions of dollars. I just hope he survives this mess and is able to implement some of his other ideas that will benefit all the citizens of San Diego. Otherwise we get back to the pigs at the trough and the neighborhoods crumbling.

When in Lisbon
I realize touring two whole castles is no easy feat, but 10 hours, even for the bargain price of $35.00, sounds a tad daunting. Was that a typo, Mary, or does that include breakfast, lunch, and dinner and a foot massage?

Street neighbor: Down on 13th, the East Village
Talk about the nothingness that is everything, huh, John? These guys are certainly into it up to their eyeballs. Glad to see you are out and about and meeting the neighbors. East Village is changing and changing fast; not sure where this crowd is going to end up but I don't think staying put is going to be an option. The stench of urine is not listed as part of the package as the condos are being marketed and sold. And as much as Sister Jo (formerly Father Joe), much to her credit, is feeding them as fast as she can, they are coming in like they are on an assembly line. Whether recently arrived from Texas, or foreclosed to the streets, this is a wreck coming down the tracks and I think the crash is going to be nasty. Be sure to let us know what it looks like.

Vargas reaps Filner's sweetest fruit
These whores don't care who they give money too as long as it puts a string around their finger that they can pull when they need some juice. This system sucks so bad. Churchill was wrong.

Messengers of love
What I don't get is how the planet is seeing a dying off of bees and yet, when you read a book like "Cooked" by Michael Pollen, he writes about the thousands of new bee hives being established and maintained by urban beekeepers on rooftops and fire escapes as part of the whole food movement in quite a few major cities. It seems one story flies in the face of the other. Where bee the truth?
— July 31, 2013 11:22 a.m.
Rhode Island: little state, big history
I visited those millionaire mansions many years ago. I recall The Breakers having a bathroom (one of many) with 24 caret gold faucets in a marble tub that offered hot and cold, fresh, or salt, water for your bath. Nice touch. Also, photos in the hallway showed guests arriving for a dinner party on horses which they rode into the dining room. Another set of photos showed a dinner table, set for...30 people? Each setting had a small pile of sand where the plate would be; there were small sterling silver shovels and pails for the guests to use to dig through the sand for their party favors: diamonds and rubies and such. What an unbelievably ostentatious lifestyle. Newport also has the church where John Kennedy and Jacqueline were married. Newport Jazz Festival used to go on there in the summer. Not sure if it still does. Interesting little town.

There is way too much money involved on both sides.— August 13, 2013 11:08 a.m.
Woman in Ocean Beach spits on, fights Arizona tourist
Pit-tooey! There goes a spitball. Everybody duck! Personally, I don't judge people by their point of origin. I say, it's not where you're from, so much as it is where you're at.— August 13, 2013 10:44 a.m.
Old Town: Back from the dead with a deal
Score, Ed! Without a doubt, hands down, the best deal in town! I will be working my way through the menu.— August 13, 2013 8:36 a.m.
Now, shooting unarmed homeless people or women with children...well, I don't want to get off topic here, but bottom line is, you can call for help but don't hold your breath, Zonies.— August 12, 2013 9:09 p.m.
Otherwise we get back to the pigs at the trough and the neighborhoods crumbling.— August 6, 2013 9:06 p.m.
When in Lisbon
I realize touring two whole castles is no easy feat, but 10 hours, even for the bargain price of $35.00, sounds a tad daunting. Was that a typo, Mary, or does that include breakfast, lunch, and dinner and a foot massage?— August 5, 2013 11:14 p.m.
Be sure to let us know what it looks like.— August 3, 2013 11:29 a.m.
Vargas reaps Filner's sweetest fruit
These whores don't care who they give money too as long as it puts a string around their finger that they can pull when they need some juice. This system sucks so bad. Churchill was wrong.— July 31, 2013 11:36 a.m.
Where bee the truth?— July 31, 2013 11:22 a.m.
Interesting little town.— July 29, 2013 9:08 p.m.
