Jackass bites Student
Well done, Scottso; You sure took that Student to school. I don't know what Ben Kingsley is doing in that movie. It looked like crap from a distance even to my untrained eye. Not worth the price of the popcorn regardless of the holy of holy history.

Ken Cinema remains a Landmark in every sense
Hooray and Halleleujah, indeed, Scottzo! Ya dun did it, Dude! Best news I've heard in awhile. I just may get over the mayoral election. Not sure calling people Horseface whatevers are going to get the bodies into the seats, but your message is clear and I hope, well taken. I also hope this is a turning point for The Ken and they will find the resources to invest in a just a tab better sound system. Don't get me wrong, I love the sound of tin and the stickiness underfoot; it's all part of the experience--I understand that--but just a little bit of an upgrade in the speaker system would go such a long way in making the experience pleasurable for those who come to showings other than the one at midnight. Congrats again, Karl, and a big, BIG Congrats and "preciate it" to the Berkun Family and Landmark.

Let it out, let it all out
Surprised you did not give Tribal Baroque more due, Garrett. I have seen them in Balboa Park several times in the last few years and think they are the most interesting buskers to every play the Prado. While "Thoth," and "Lila Angelique" will never be accused of being masters of the violin, the sounds they produce are unlike anything one is likely to hear anywhere. Thoth, looks like a cross between a whirling dervish and an Aztec version of Gunga Din, vocalizes in a range sounding like everything from a Tibetan throat singer to a soprano. His partner, Lila Anglique, a sweet counterpoint, vocally, as well as on the violin, brings a visually striking appearance to the scene. Made up with a doll-like face, white as porcelain, strawberry hair, costume and moves suggestive of something between Marie Antoinette and I Robot, she provides the visual contrast and the occasional harmony that holds the crowds spellbound. I would never recommend buskers to anyone, but these two have got to be seen (and heard) to be believed.

Meet
Watermark's
Edward Burtynsky
Just came from seeing Watermark and I'm seriously thinking of going back on Sunday just to ask Mr. Burtynsky what his film is about. Water? Yes. People? Yes. Technology? Hydrology? Wet, dry, hot, cold, dirty water, clean water, hot water, ice water, high, low, up down, black white green yellow brown and lots of interesting patterns. But what was the film supposed to be about? Perhaps he summed it up best himself when he said it was one off the most...abstract of his career. I found it abstract to the point of incomprehension. Long live art! I guess.

City cracks down on another pot dispensary
All this based on an individual who "appeared" to be about 13 and who appeared to leave with a paper bag? No actual check of individual's ages or contents of the bag? Interesting way to enforce the law.

Phony construction worker busted by Border Patrol
Yea, I don't know what this guy thought he was doing. He should use one of the tunnels like everybody else.

Paddling with gators in Florida's Myakka River State Park
Did some camping and canoeing in Florida a few years ago myself, Mary. Came across this sign that I could not believe. The Florida State Parks actually allows swimming in waters that are known to contain alligators. It would probably be best if you knew how to swim very fast.

New York style delis aren't supposed to be street legal
Levain bread? A slice of avocado? Be careful, Ian. You could get punched in the face and they're liable to pull a knife on ya. You have to understand, New Yorkers are proud of that grease. Fact is, the grease is often more important than the food. The food is just an excuse to enjoy the grease. Have you been to Bronx Pizza lately? They're serving slices of grease with pizza on it. Not fa nuttin' but...they think "avocado" is Italian for "catbird."

Exit Through the Gift Shop's
Brian Cross to launch opening night of Filmatic Festival
Interactive cinema? God help us. I'm with you on this one, Skoot. The problem, as I see it, is the Twitterati have trouble differentiating between a cinema and a comedy club. Plus, they don't believe the world can go for an hour and 45 minutes without hearing from them. It seems to be some kind of disorder that involves iPhones, overactive thumbs, and ADD. Personally, I would prefer it if everyone, besides myself, would vaporize when the house lights go down and not reappear until the final credit has rolled. Let's hope this idea never gets past the walls of the ivory tower.

Adams Avenue music festival only free to you and me
I hope Kickstarter helps with the bottom line, but what will not is scheduling this event on the same weekend as ArtWalk in Little Italy. This town needs a "Cultural Overseer" to coordinate the calendar.

Jackass bites Student
Well done, Scottso; You sure took that Student to school. I don't know what Ben Kingsley is doing in that movie. It looked like crap from a distance even to my untrained eye. Not worth the price of the popcorn regardless of the holy of holy history.— May 1, 2014 8:13 p.m.
Congrats again, Karl, and a big, BIG Congrats and "preciate it" to the Berkun Family and Landmark.— April 23, 2014 7:36 p.m.
I would never recommend buskers to anyone, but these two have got to be seen (and heard) to be believed.— April 23, 2014 12:56 a.m.
Meet Watermark's Edward Burtynsky
Just came from seeing Watermark and I'm seriously thinking of going back on Sunday just to ask Mr. Burtynsky what his film is about. Water? Yes. People? Yes. Technology? Hydrology? Wet, dry, hot, cold, dirty water, clean water, hot water, ice water, high, low, up down, black white green yellow brown and lots of interesting patterns. But what was the film supposed to be about? Perhaps he summed it up best himself when he said it was one off the most...abstract of his career. I found it abstract to the point of incomprehension. Long live art! I guess.— April 18, 2014 7:53 p.m.
City cracks down on another pot dispensary
All this based on an individual who "appeared" to be about 13 and who appeared to leave with a paper bag? No actual check of individual's ages or contents of the bag? Interesting way to enforce the law.— April 10, 2014 8:26 p.m.
Phony construction worker busted by Border Patrol
Yea, I don't know what this guy thought he was doing. He should use one of the tunnels like everybody else.— April 8, 2014 11:23 p.m.
Paddling with gators in Florida's Myakka River State Park
Did some camping and canoeing in Florida a few years ago myself, Mary. Came across this sign that I could not believe. The Florida State Parks actually allows swimming in waters that are known to contain alligators. It would probably be best if you knew how to swim very fast. http://www.sandiegoreader.com/users/photos/2014/a…— April 5, 2014 9:39 p.m.
Not fa nuttin' but...they think "avocado" is Italian for "catbird."— April 4, 2014 9:22 p.m.
Exit Through the Gift Shop's Brian Cross to launch opening night of Filmatic Festival
Let's hope this idea never gets past the walls of the ivory tower.— April 4, 2014 8:47 p.m.
Adams Avenue music festival only free to you and me
I hope Kickstarter helps with the bottom line, but what will not is scheduling this event on the same weekend as ArtWalk in Little Italy. This town needs a "Cultural Overseer" to coordinate the calendar.— March 14, 2014 10:45 a.m.
