San Diego, mortgage hot spot

Something seems odd here, Don. How is it that in one of the most expensive housing markets in the country, the rejection rate for racial groups, other than white, is the lowest in the land?. One would think that rate in other areas, with much lower housing prices, would be lower than here. I find it hard to believe that income levels for the groups mentioned, at least here in San Diego, are noticeably higher than anywhere else in the US, and suspect higher mortgage prices have induced the banks to be a tad more flexible. In other words, if you want to get customers into $550K+ mortgages, you have to be a bit more creative and understanding. Otherwise, you'll have very few customers. It seems to me that this is fairly strong evidence to suggest it is not the qualifications of the applicant, so much as it is the flexibility of the bank's rules that determine the closing of the deal..and consequently the economic noose.

What's the hang-up with the San Salvador?

Any word on where they intend to actually put the ship in the water, Ken? There is a small beach about a hundred yards from the build site at Spanish Landing. That would be a very short transport and eliminate the need to get to a pier or one of the marine terminals. I spoke to a volunteer there a month or so ago and he said they were talking about possibly having a very large crane lift the ship up from the construction frame and place it in the water right there. A challenge, no doubt, but a lot less hassle than wheeling the ship down Harbor Drive.

Aw, baby, you're too skinny

These filthy creatures ought to be allowed to die as nature intended. They are the "rats" of the ocean. SeaWorld reminds me of the Catholic Church: Always preaching to the ladies about birth control, but stone deaf when it comes to feeding the starving children. If SeaWorld wants to save them, then SeaWorld ought to keep them, raise them, and feed them. Otherwise, let nature take its course.

Oyé, Daniel, I'm only guessing here but I suspect el padre learned to fish south of the border where most growing up down there use hand lines wound around tin cans. No reels, no rods, no drags, bails, spinners, and definitely nothing with the name Penn on it. They still catch 'em, but they do it old school. Hey, whatever puts the fish in the taco, verdad?
