Total Wealth mis-Management
Maybe this guy could start up a church with another supposed religious zealot Barry (zzzz best) Minkow. Although I don't know if Cooper has reached the depths of insatiable corrupt greed that Minkow did.— August 28, 2014 3:45 a.m.
Total Wealth mis-Management
There's something about having a nice voice on the radio that just gets people to believe - ever listen to Phil Hendrie? His schtick - which he was amazinging good at - was to pretend to interview a guest (which was really him doing another voice) with some outrageous opinion. People would call the show to argue with the "guest" because they were so outraged - it was pretty hilarious.— August 27, 2014 10:56 p.m.
Total Wealth mis-Management
I'm starting to think that the most accurate and reliable KOGO weekend host may be Art Bell. There's probably a better chance that extraterrestrial aliens are abducting people from UFO's than the financial "advice" these guys are schilling is honest.— August 27, 2014 10:05 p.m.
Earth loses 63 trillion gallons of groundwater
According to climate change models the new normal for Southern CA will be drier than the old normal. So chances are we're not going to get a general increase in rain as time goes on and the climate shifts. Certainly odds are we will get a lot more this year than last year.— August 25, 2014 9:53 p.m.
Earthquake '14
I don't think we're really all that prepared for earthquakes in CA. I wouldn't think that a 6.0 should cause power outages and water main breaks. I suspect out infrastructure has been neglected. When the overdue big earthquake finally hits it will be devastating.— August 24, 2014 11:58 p.m.

So I'm a bit torn. Based on the prior posts I should curb water use in my alcoholic beverage. But my beverage of choice tends to be a San Diego based microbrew - maybe a Green Flash IPA or a Ballast Point Sculpin IPA if I'm willing to splurge for a $12+ 6-pack. But San Diego microbrews are using local water - so maybe I should switch to a beer brewed in a non-drought area? Ah to heck with it - I'm just going to drink whatever I like.— August 24, 2014 8:32 a.m.

Thank you for your difficult sacrifice!! Every bit helps!— August 24, 2014 8:26 a.m.
SD pension mess hits Journal's front page
I don't understand why government accounts or intragovernmental debt should be counted. Seems to me that money could always be shifted around within the government. I would think the big problem is money that the U.S. government owes to entities outside the U.S. government.— August 19, 2014 7:14 a.m.

Thank you for your well-informed posts, BTW. So the debt isn't quite as bad as my post would indicate. Maybe 500B instead of 700B. Still a pretty big number. As you point out it is incredibly difficult politically to cut almost anything. And any major cuts should be done over a long period of time. So I think that's all the more reason to start cutting spending now. But I think we also need some big tax increases too.— August 19, 2014 6:56 a.m.

"Actually, federal government debt as a percentage of GDP has been declining. " Not sure what data your statement is based on. Looks to me like the debt/GDP ratio is at an all-time high (excluding WWII) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_debt_of_the…— August 18, 2014 9:09 a.m.
