This Chargers stadium proposal? Watch it.
The economic forecast for the high speed train at this point is significantly worse than what was clearly promised to voters in the wording of the original ballot proposition. And even the latest numbers are likely optimistic. For example, a recent L.A. Times article points out that recent claims of $86 projected ticket prices does not seem realistic compared to existing fares in Europe and China. http://www.latimes.com/local/politics/la-me-adv-b…— May 20, 2015 6:39 a.m.

The real negotiating is being done today in SF at the NFL owners meeting.— May 19, 2015 7:27 p.m.

You are a naysayer. 121M can come from a lot of places. Unicorns. Fairies. Leprechauns. Don't look at reality! Have some faith!!— May 19, 2015 10:24 a.m.

So if I'm adding right this proposal is effectively for San Diego taxpayers to give about 466M in corporate welfare to Spanos? (121M city + 121M county + 225M land). And this is just the starting point meaning the final tax handout will probably be north of 500M. It does seem like a deal may eventually get done though. Several months ago I thought it was quite likely they were going to L.A. Now I'm not so sure.— May 18, 2015 10:56 p.m.

So apparently the Raiders and Chargers have hired Carmen Policy to help push the Carson stadium (most likely a ruse of course but still a big negotiating chip) http://www.latimes.com/sports/nfl/la-sp-chargers-…— May 18, 2015 10:53 p.m.
More bikeways or more highways?
"They've pushed instead to prioritize these investments, and to avoid road expansion at all cost" Most people use cars for transit and that won't change in the forseeable future. Failing to improve roadways will result in more traffic and more maintainence for cars. Traffic and car repairs both increase carbon emissions. Thus I believe the net result of this plan will be INCREASED carbon emissions not decreased.— May 17, 2015 8:55 a.m.
More bikeways or more highways?
I think alternative transportation options should be focused on a few dense corridors. For most people in the suburbs public transit and bicycle transit is just completely impractical.— May 17, 2015 8:52 a.m.
More bikeways or more highways?
Yes - those technologies are still fairly new relative to gasoline ICE. One would expect there's a lot of potential improvements in efficiency up ahead. Also, smart highways and smart cars - more communication between vehicles and roads - will help improve efficiency as well.— May 17, 2015 7:23 a.m.
More bikeways or more highways?
"meeting the state's pollution goals ultimately requires a significant reduction in miles traveled by cars." That is a completely false statement. If car efficiency improves then that will reduce pollution even with the same number of miles traveled by cars.— May 16, 2015 3:03 p.m.
Former U-T head keeps rolling around the desert
The middle class is diminishing. I agree that this is a dangerous situation - and I don't see this changing anytime soon.— May 14, 2015 6:33 a.m.
