San Diego long-timers will bear water conservation burden
The word "drought" is indeed used by scientists but there is no standard definition. So to me that's an unscientific term. It's like saying something is "big" or "small" or "heavy" without any context.— May 30, 2015 8:08 a.m.
San Diego long-timers will bear water conservation burden
I think the word "drought" is overused. I do realize that the rainfall over the past few years is well below average - but you know what - rainfall is below average about half the time. The problem isn't that we have a drought. The problem is that CA doesn't get much rain. Even more fundamental than that is there is a difference between the supply of water in CA and the demand for water in CA and there doesn't seem to be a good system in place to negotiate between supply and demand. As far as I can tell there is an arcane mish-mash of (pseudo) free markets, government controls, senior and junior water rights holders, and just good old theft. We knew decades ago that at some point we'd hit a stretch of relatively low rainfall. So we shouldn't have emergency measures in place. We should have had a system in place which could adjust appropriately to varying levels of water supply and water demand. I think rather than blaming the "drought" I'd rather see our leaders try to come up with long term solutions for problems which should have been solved decades ago.— May 28, 2015 1:44 p.m.

"Cox says the popular notion that agriculture takes 80 percent of state water is not true. Actually, he says, agriculture takes 40 percent and environmental considerations (such as making some water off-limits to protect a rare fish species) take another 40 percent." Cox would say that the popular notion that eggs are sold by the dozen is not true. Actually, they are sold in boxes of 12.— May 27, 2015 10:48 p.m.
NFL team could play in L.A. in 2016
I hear a lot of people on sports radio questioning how Spanos can say that he is "focussed on staying in San Diego" on yet that he has "not seen the (CSAG) report". Clearly those 2 statements are inconsistent.— May 26, 2015 8:25 a.m.

I think to get a tax increase passed they may need a 2/3 vote - which will be difficult. So it will be a shell game by CSAG and city government to see if they can shuffle enough money towards a stadium without raising taxes. My personal sense / guess is that Faulconer is willing to be generous to the Chargers with taxpayers money but he's got limits and I don't think he's going to give them a blank check.— May 26, 2015 8:21 a.m.

Latest rumor - reported by LA sports reporter Fred Rogin (sp) on XTRA 1360 Loose Cannon interview - is that the Chargers did not want the CSAG report and recommendations released. Apparently - according to the rumor - the Chargers' mindset now is set to move to L.A. so SD's willingness to send barrels of tax money their way doesn't help the Chargers' case with the NFL ("i.e. hey other owners we pushed SD hard for corporate welfare and they didn't budge. So let us move to L.A.")— May 25, 2015 3:17 p.m.
