Sempra Energy, Pacific Gas & Electric, Edison overspend with impunity
shirleyberan I watched the Madoff miniseries. I don't know for sure how accurate the portrayals were but for now I'll assume they're accurate. From the miniseries I got the following impressions. 1. Madoff had a big chip on his shoulder and was driven to "make it" out of his lower-middle class upbringing. 2. He truly destroyed a lot of people's lives. Not just the investors - his family was torn asunder. 3. Madoff had almost zero conscience and was good at rationalizing. I think he felt some pain and guilt for what happened to his family but it didn't seem that he felt any guilt at all towards the investors. Rather than feeling bad towards the investors he was ripping off he almost seemed to enjoy the game of it all and the fact that he was smart and manipulative enough to talk a lot of very wealthy people out of their money. 4. The SEC appeared inept and incompetent. They missed several easy chances to go after him - including failing to even to a brief check on Madoff's trading accounts, and a Boston SEC leader ignoring a math whiz who had indisputable proof that Madoff's results were mathematically impossible.— February 6, 2016 9:02 a.m.
Spanos commits!
Dean has been out in the San Diego media more than Fabiani the past couple of weeks which is a big change from the past few years. Seems to me that Fabiani might have to fall on the sword so Dean can position himself as the good guy and Fabiani as the bad guy. Of course, Fabiani has just been saying what his employer has wanted him to say. But The Chargers need to try to manipulate public sentiment now.— February 3, 2016 12:08 p.m.

I mean Fabiani's been awful quiet lately.— February 3, 2016 10:28 a.m.
Spanos commits!
I suspect deMause's description of the "negotiation" between Kroenke and Spanos is about right. At this point Kroenke wants LA to himself, Spanos wants a big welfare check from San Diego. And they both want to keep the Raiders out of So Cal. So they have to appear that they've made a deal that will work out well for both of them if the Chargers choose to move to LA. Whether or not that's true is anyone's guess. My guess would be the same as Don and Neil's - that the Chargers don't have a very good deal to move up to Inglewood.— February 2, 2016 5:47 p.m.

And Mark Fabiani's recent comments are .... (crickets ... chirp... chirp.... chirp)— February 2, 2016 5:36 p.m.

Spanos commits!
So Spanos wants an option to move to LA as leverage against the city of SD. Shouldn't the city of SD be openly offering the spot in Mission Valley to the Raiders so that we have more leverage against Spanos?— February 1, 2016 5:08 p.m.
Chargers chatter with Ron and Kev
It could be worse. As long as Mayor Faulconer insists on a public election there is a good chance this be voted down. It the Mayor bypasses the election then that is a really bad sign.— February 1, 2016 10:48 a.m.
Spanos commits!
I've heard the $1 / yr rent number mentioned many times - so many times that it seems to be an indisputable truth. But is it? I would like to see that agreement in writing.— February 1, 2016 10:20 a.m.
Spanos commits!
I think there is a very real possibility that they lose the election. I've heard on the radio that it's too late to set up a June election. A special June election would likely have a relatively small turnout with a disproportionate number of Chargers fans. The November election will likely have a large turnout. I think most Chargers fans will support any measure to keep the Chargers here - but the number of die-hard Chargers fans has definitely dropped after the antics and disrespectful treatment from Spanos.— January 30, 2016 10:50 p.m.
