The recent buzz in tech is over diversity in tech companies. Basically there are fewer numbers of women and certainly minority groups in tech jobs than in the general population. So that is getting some press lately and Intel announced an affirmative action program to address the fact that women and certain races are under-represented in the high-tech work force. I'm not going to say under-representation of women and certain races isn't an issue in tech. But it kind of seems to me like addressing that problem while allowing the H1B abuses to continue is like fixing a leaky faucet while the house is on fire. I think the diversity initiative may be a "wag the dog" tactic - divert attention from a big issue by addressing a less significant issue. Maybe before the American tech industry worries so much about women and certain minority groups being underrepresented in tech they should worry about why Americans are so underrepresented in the American tech industry.— February 7, 2016 1:19 p.m.

They don't have to have bonus-based compensation. Maybe just pay a high enough salary to make an SEC career a viable option for the most talented legal and financial minds. I don't know how much that is, but maybe if the SEC paid, say, up to several hundred thousand / year to their best attorneys some brilliant attorneys might be willing to forgo higher salaries in the private sector in favor of working for the SEC. I think if they're paying, say, below 200K then the lure of the revolving door and 1M+ private sector salary + bonus is too high.— February 7, 2016 6:41 a.m.

Were any qualified American citizens or permanent residents layed off while H1B employees stayed? Did QCOM make any effort to retain American citizens / permanent residents in favor of H1B employees? Obviously they would do if QCOM is complying with the spirit of the H1B program and making sure that no qualified Americans lose their jobs in favor of an H1B worker. Is there any data anywhere showing the numbers of H1B workers layed off vs. American citizens / permanent residents? Is QCOM required to post such data? I think the answer to all of the above questions is NO but I wonder if there are data which show that conclusively.— February 6, 2016 1:28 p.m.

Moores basically claimed that as CEO he had no idea what was going on at Peregrine and somehow he escaped conviction. I think laws now would require a CEO to sign off and be held liable for important financial actions (please correct me someone if I'm wrong).— February 6, 2016 1:21 p.m.

This particular suit sounds more like a nuisance suit - lawyers hoping to make a quick buck for the suit to go away or hoping to get a sympathetic jury and hit the lottery. I do think QCOM's executive staff are paid WAY too much, especially in a down year. Supposedly their high pay is justified by being paid by performance only. If so, in a year like 2015 I think all executives should not be compensated more than 6 figures.— February 6, 2016 9:08 a.m.
