Oops! NFL team official slips up and tells the truth
Wouldn't it be a good idea to have the Super Bowl somewhere warm? Like San Diego or Miami? No, in addition to allowing teams to relocate the NFL wants to hold the Super Bowl (and wildly inflated estimates of its' economic value to municipalities) over our heads. It's pretty funny watching the lengths the NFL will go to in order to keep this scam going. Next year, the Super Bowl is in the open air stadium in NYC. With Nemo just missing NYC they're already talking about extreme contingency plans - even having the game on SATURDAY.— February 13, 2013 9:26 p.m.
San Diego retiree healthcare 3% funded
Wrong + wrong does not equal right. But that's how a lot of these guys get their bases to support them. There is SO much corruption and greed on both sides that one side can always point to greedy crooks on the other side while protecting their own greedy crooks. When Republicans start aggressively going after corporate greed and Democrats start aggressively going after union greed we might start seeing things get better.— February 9, 2013 10:40 p.m.
San Diego retiree healthcare 3% funded
Yes - ultimately not having any money is the ultimate bargaining chip in a negotiation.— February 9, 2013 10:35 p.m.
San Diego retiree healthcare 3% funded
Will be interesting to see how the San Bernardino bankruptcy turns out...— February 9, 2013 3:59 p.m.
San Diego retiree healthcare 3% funded
Defined benefit plans WOULD be OK if reasonable assumptions (e.g. maybe 5% investment returns, rising healthcare costs, etc) were used. Of course, it's a lot easier to just make bogus assumptions and kick the can down the road. The shenanigans that went on with underfunding the pensions were of course, even worse than the normal kicking the can down the road. I think the defined benefit plans for public employees need to end - it's impossible to make any reasonable apples/apples comparison w/ non-defined benefit private sector compensation plans.— February 9, 2013 3:57 p.m.
Did you charge more than $100,000 on your expense account?
"The champion charged a whopping $192,402 on his expense account." Wining, dining, and bribing politicians and CPUC officials is expensive.— February 6, 2013 9:08 p.m.
UC students, workers to protest fat executive pay
Yes, but what does fiduciary duty mean these days? For executives it means "Show me the money" (and who cares about anything or anyone else).— January 30, 2013 9:41 p.m.
Shopping Plaza Owner and One Paseo neighbor spends $10,000 to lobby against project
IMO they really shouldn't do any more building until 5/56 is complete and 56 is widened.— January 29, 2013 2:14 a.m.
This year's convention center business will be difficult
Is that the one with the heliport - ERRRR large concrete recreation/fitness area on the roof?— January 27, 2013 6:04 p.m.
This year's convention center business will be difficult
Seems to me a lot of hotel building has been going on downtown last several years. Is RevPAR down because total revenue is down or because the number of available rooms is up? Or both?— January 26, 2013 6:50 p.m.
