Super sports nonsense in New York and Sacramento
I suspect the number of middle class jobs involved with an NFL franchise is probably quite low. A small number of highly paid coaches and players and a whole bunch of concession people, ushers, etc who probably barely make minimum wage. Interestingly, many cheerleaders (according to a recent lawsuit) don't even get paid minimum wage http://espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/id/10334429/cheerl… The tax money for the most part goes to owners, players, coaches, and agents.— January 27, 2014 8:46 p.m.
Super sports nonsense in New York and Sacramento
It will be funny if Buffalo taxpayers build a new subsidized outdoor stadium. Now that we've broken the cold weather barrier, we'll see if the NFL keeps up with their normal Super Bowl reward for building a new stadium.— January 27, 2014 7:46 p.m.
Defense contractor Vector admits criminal fraud
Sounds to me the fine was actually pretty close to the damage done. I wish the same could be done to Goldman Sachs and AIG.— January 16, 2014 8:50 a.m.
North Park gang members indicted for sex trafficking
Sad. Modern day slavery. If proven in court, throw the perps in the hole for a long, long time.— January 9, 2014 9:23 a.m.
Blackout looming for Chargers' NFL playoff game?
There is some chance the FCC eventually will end the blackout policy, Huge news today for sports fans! The FCC has proposed ending the sports blackout rule, which means that Sports Fans Coalition’s long march to end the rule is almost over. We’ll keep you posted, but in the meantime, here’s a statement from SFC Chairman David Goodfriend: “The American sports fan just won another round, thanks to the Federal Communications Commission’s latest action. This is the beginning of the end of the Sports Blackout Rule in particular and government subsidization of anti-fan behavior by sports leagues more generally. Sports fans look forward to sharing their views in this important proceeding now under way at the FCC.” http://sportsfans.org/2013/12/another-huge-victor…— January 3, 2014 4:12 p.m.
Blackout looming for Chargers' NFL playoff game?
Kind of a microcosm of the widening gap between haves and have-nots. Only members of the upper middle class or upper class can afford to go to a game like this.— January 2, 2014 6:27 p.m.
Blackout looming for Chargers' NFL playoff game?
At these prices, I wonder how many tickets are comp'd to local officials as thank you's for pushing for new stadia.— January 2, 2014 5:45 p.m.
San Diego’s 2014 economy looking so-so
Story on the local news says that South County retailers expect an increase in retail sales to Mexican shoppers due to a big increase in the Mexican sales tax.— January 1, 2014 12:25 a.m.
Qualcomm reportedly frightened of Apple innovation
So I guess I'm just saying I don't know if Apple really wants to go into the chip-making business or if they just want to make sure QCOM, INTC, BRCM, etc know that they can make chips if they aren't getting what they need at the prices they need from their suppliers.— December 23, 2013 9:07 a.m.
Qualcomm reportedly frightened of Apple innovation
I wonder if Apple thinks QCOM doesn't have enough competition. Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) hate to have a single source for any critical components.— December 22, 2013 10:07 p.m.
