Ted Leitner has on-air meltdown at SDSU game
The security guard was an idiot with no common sense whatsoever and should be reprimanded. There is no obvious safety issue with bringing a suitcase into an arena - unless you buy into the ridiculous idea that we have to treat every single person as a terrorist rather than having security and law enforcement do their job to identify threats and minimize intrusive treatment of law-abiding citizens. It was probably against the rules and TL shouldn't have brought the suitcase in, BUT the security guard should have shown at least a tiny bit of common sense and waited for a time-out to address the issue.— March 17, 2014 10:07 a.m.
Ted Leitner has on-air meltdown at SDSU game
I find TL to be very annoying in general but really I don't think this episode was that bad. Unless the security guards had a good reason to believe there was an imminent threat I think they could have waited for a break.— March 16, 2014 10:12 p.m.
Auditor, ethics director back plan to purge emails
I've worked at companies that have had email destruction policies - although certainly nothing this drastic. The reason given was always that there could be a big legal / IT expense to do data mining through a lot of data if there were a subpoena - but I always figure that the bigger reason was to protect any executives who had done something wrong. But besides the moral / ethical issues involved, policies like this make it harder for everyone to do their job. A lot of old discussions / data / information is stored in emails and if you force people to destroy it that information is lost.— March 10, 2014 10:36 p.m.
Auditor, ethics director back plan to purge emails
Well, I certainly think this is clearly unethical. I would argue that city emails should never be destroyed - the cost of disk space / IT to manage it isn't really that much. But if you're going to set a time frame I would think something like 5 years would be a reasonable minimum period.— March 10, 2014 10:31 p.m.
County unemployment rate jumps in January
Yes, IF anything, QE should have been a temporary emergency measure. Instead, it's practically become permanent policy.— March 9, 2014 7:49 p.m.
County unemployment rate jumps in January
Don I think you're about the last person who should feel guilty about financial issues - you're one of those reporting on and interpreting policies in a way which sheds light on corruption and policies which only help the wealthy and well-connected few. I can sort of buy the argument (without really agreeing with it) that the extreme QE was necessary to avoid a catastrophe in 08,09. But that was years ago now. I think we're clearly past the point where one can argue that the whole financial system is going to collapse so we have to have 0% Fed rates, and the other QE measure. Now they are just doing it to prop up the stock market. In terms of housing, I wonder if another bubble is occurring - which will turn out to mainly benefit investors and banks at the expense of average people who just want a place to live. It seems there is a lot of speculation in housing. I hear that it's difficult to buy a house now in SD without a fully cash offer made right on the spot. In terms of the job market my sense (and my personal situation) is that people who have jobs are expected to work longer hours for the same pay - fear of layoffs and high unemployment rates leave little choice.— March 9, 2014 1:58 a.m.
County unemployment rate jumps in January
The Dow Jones is over 16,000. Housing prices are back near record highs. These are the data that the people pushing the economic policies for the past few decades care about. I'm sure they think things are going great.— March 8, 2014 8:11 p.m.
San Diego considered floating stadium 50 years ago
Then again, if HS football is huge enough in TX they should be able to charge enough for tickets to pay for a 60M stadium - that way people who want to pay for football can have it and people who don't want to pay for football don't have to pay for it.— March 5, 2014 11:35 p.m.
Winter homeless shelters to stay open until June 30
At the very least I think we ought to take care of anyone who became mentally ill in part due to service to the country.— March 4, 2014 4:38 p.m.
Recent lawsuit raises questions about libelous Yelping
If that's true then Yelp has been unethical and should have had to pay in a lawsuit. And been criminally prosecuted.— March 4, 2014 7:35 a.m.
