Big people talk about issues; small people talk about people

Big people talk about issues; small people talk about people
Actually, MGonzalez stated on July 11 that they were "clients." That normally means that they had already signed an agreement and/or paid a deposit.— July 13, 2013 8:55 a.m.

Who are they afraid of? The media is the only thing I can imagine - but the people making the allegations don't get to use the media one-sidedly to take down the Mayor and otherwise hide in the shadows. I'm glad you reported Filner's statement as of last night. As for the media, KPBS says they've been investigating for months...why months? Talking to the accusers? And Marcela Escobar-Eck is tweeting horror that the media are pursuing the accusers, so apparently everyone knows who they are except the public. This is just horrifying, and the way it's being done makes it look like a political lynching involving Dem factions. The accusers have undermined their own case and may be being used by everyone.— July 13, 2013 7:24 a.m.
In wake of scandal, Mayor Filner to propose new Weak Mayor guidelines
I can't see any humor in this. it's too sad and serious, not funny.— July 12, 2013 8:06 p.m.
As office sex charges swirl, mayor reports getting new leather sofa
MP, Thank you, thank you, thank you for not writing the hackneyed phrase "pet projects." As always, your writing is fresh. Jeromes' cheap furniture is exactly what I'd expect a Dem mayor to use furnishing his office. And it was donated, yaaay! I forgot, where did former CCDC Pres Nancy Graham order furnishings for her CCDC office? She spent $18,500 on her office, plus $12,000 for a few chairs for the board room, all at the taxpayers' expense. Did anyone ever track how much Fred Maas got for the lots on eBay?— July 12, 2013 11:42 a.m.

Well MurphyJ, the lawyers already made their stage entrance. Though Briggs wanted public notice only of his anti-corruption battles in general, Gonzalez claimed dibs on harassment clients. He advertised his firm as standing ready to represent the unnamed accusers, "depending on Mayor Filner's response." He's basically already representing these "folks" in this new paradigm for torts. Some might call this extortion. His use of Dante to bolster his seriousness of purpose seems less than divine: his actions are to force the public to ignore the distinctions between licit and illicit inappropriate behavior. He would do better to study Hegel (Natural Law): > Dante's Divine Comedy is without fate > and without a genuine struggle, > because absolute confidence and > assurance of the reality of the > Absolute exist in it without > opposition, and whatever opposition > brings movement into this perfect > security and calm is merely opposition > without seriousness of inner truth.— July 12, 2013 8:23 a.m.

Just want to say how glad I am that *The Reader* and all the good investigative *Reader* journalists who constantly contribute news about San Diego do NOT feel that they need to announce their personal opinions that others "must" resign or do anything because "they" have lost confidence, even though they "wouldn't begrudge anyone who takes issue" with their judgment. As if their opining mattered a whit to anyone, anywhere. Seriously, this town is a fool's paradise of Dante-quoting "magicians and clairvoyants who would see the future march forever looking backward" (from an essay on Dante by Diana Shemo, NYT, 1995).— July 11, 2013 8:59 p.m.
City accused of subverting public records law in lawsuit over Convention Center expansion
Scent of blood...both trails involving the Gonzalez sibs. Marco's presser today...talk about an alignment of stars and overlapping universes. So Marco represents women in sexual harrassment cases? His practice area is Land Use, Election law, and Environment but includes Government Relations. Whole new meaning. Maybe he'll represent Lorena in the case you are covering here, Dorian. Should be interesting.— July 11, 2013 11:06 a.m.
Symphony lobbyist raises big cash for GOP Lincoln Club's city council contender
Cate's qualifications are thin. The 4- or 5-month stint at Jefferson Government Relations in Washington DC (Jan-May 2006) was somehow accomplished at the same time he was getting a BA in Poly Sci at USD (Sep 2002-May 2006). Some of the key people at JGR during that time aren't people I'd want influencing my 20-something-year-old. Other than staffing for Faulconer for less than a year, he has been only at SDCTA, giving him less than a world view. He's only 30 years old and all of his experience has been acquired in a Republican cocoon of pretty much the worst type - the San Diego type. Wouldn't want him for my councilperson.— July 9, 2013 5:14 p.m.
Then along came the $100,000 -- City Attorney and councilmember question two mystery checks from Sunroad
"San Diego City Attorney Jan Goldsmith is on the case." Ferrets it out.— July 4, 2013 5:03 p.m.
