Wake Up, Speak Up
This discussion should also question the number of liquor licenses issued in Pacific Beach. I am not familiar with the procession for obtaining a liquor license but assume it involves some City oversight and approval. Yes, PB and not just Kate Sessions Neighborhood Park, should be designated the drunkatopia capital of San Diego. SDPD resources concentrated and in sense directed in this one area does make it more difficult to have a 911 call answered . From what I understand SDPD has decided not to issue tickets for "minor" offenses at Kate Sessions Neighborhood Park. Too bad about those pesky dogs off leash, physical batteries, drunk in public, public urination, and other "minor" offenses. Also too bad for the neighbors, park users from throughout the city, and those of us to like to see the laws on the books, no matter how minor, enforced.— April 25, 2010 7:34 p.m.
Wake Up, Speak Up
What has SDPD done to control the illegal behaviors to date at Kate Sessions Neighborhood Park ? Apparently not enough since proponents want a 24 hour ban of alcohol at this park. Instead of pointing fingers at each other shouldn't we be asking SDPD to issue tickets for being drunk in public, urinating in public and other activities which, if done by a crowd of homeless in this park, would have been stopped long ago. Instead we indulge the self indulgent and try to look the other way until there is no more ignoring the fact that the park has become the drunkatopia capital of San Diego.— April 25, 2010 3:04 p.m.
Wake Up, Speak Up
Origin of " I don't have a dog in this fight." The present use probably stems from its use by James Baker, former Secretary of State and a Texan. Who knows where he learned the phrase, but dogfighting, illegal in the U.S., is common in Mexico, and in Texas as well, although conducted clandestinely there. One can't date this expression by the presence or absence of actual dogfighting, although it used to be practiced in England in the 17th century. Dogfight is the metaphor used for the combat between two fighter planes, as it has been since World War I. Think Michael Vick. My dog would be on a leash if I had one in the current dispute over the 24 hour alcohol ban at Kate Sessions Neighborhood Park.— April 25, 2010 2:25 p.m.

Maybe Joan Quigley could chart Kate Sessions Neighborhood Park ? She did help Nancy Reagan at one time. Perhaps we need a certified astrologer to read the Kate Sessions Neighborhood Park star chart to see the outcome of the proposal to ban alcohol 24 hours per day due to the illegal behaviors of some park users ? That is, after all, the real topic.— April 24, 2010 6:24 a.m.

Who is the legal representative for the SD Reader ?— April 23, 2010 10:11 a.m.
Wake Up, Speak Up
Thank you for the response, SD Reader. I think it becomes clear that the stringer, using an abundance of common sense and good manners, should have notified members of the CP1 committee that their images would be used/manipulated in the "one man" speech/ video link. To present a fair and balanced view as most journalists would have done the stringer in question could have included the opening remarks of staff outlining the problem and describing the task of the volunteer committee. But then this piece was always intended, in my opinion, to provoke emotions and controversy rather than report the facts. Because the stringer took this approach, some contributors have also taken the low road with personal insults and threats to those who oppose their view. Kate Sessions is and will remain an Neighborhood Park. The disrespect that the drinkers show for themselves and the neighborhood is the real issue. The reason that a proposal for a 24 hour alcohol ban at this park is being considered can be traced back to these drinkers and no one else. The people did speak at CP1. Some just did not like what they heard.— April 23, 2010 7:27 a.m.
Wake Up, Speak Up
Back to topic - if the some of the public opines in this thread that sign in sheets and speaker slips violate their privacy, why would a video link added to an article which depicts the volunteer committee members not be equally offensive ? Again - does the SD Reader have a legal right to post this video without first obtaining model releases and have other volunteer committee members been included in videos appearing in the SD Reader ? If you read the relevant law, models need to be compensated and also sign a release. I am just not certain if this particular situation fits into that category.— April 22, 2010 4:47 p.m.
Wake Up, Speak Up
Some seem to be experts on what stringers can do in terms of adding material to articles. It is all news to me. I withdraw the word "recently" but still would like an legal opinion about the model release issue and examples of video featuring volunteer committees linked to other SD Reader articles. Let the experts on stringers now speak.— April 22, 2010 3:29 p.m.
