At The 99
I found a back scratcher at my 99 cent store and a fly swatter. Neither was available anywhere else. Also, there are self sealing security envelopes in a large size which are super cheap. Some things seem questionable at these stores but then shopping is about selection. I am still thinking of Ben and Jerry's ($4.99 at most stores) for 99 cents. That was an incredible deal. I have seen a lot of seniors shopping at the cut rate stores which begs the question what people are living on in their golden years. Sad.— May 23, 2010 4:10 p.m.

I realized that there was a Mission Valley Planning Committee after I posted. Sorry for the overlap. I am just not certain if an item can pulled under these circumstances to be in compliance with the Brown Act. There is a lot of density in Mission Valley so many who testified against the development felt getting around would be even worse for those who live in the area or want to shop. Of course the Chargers wanted the entire 160 acres around the stadium for the new stadium and housing. I recall that there is a gas plume under some parts of Mission Valley.— May 23, 2010 4:03 p.m.

I wonder if the Brown Act would allow a noticed matter to be pulled by Ms. Frye in these circumstances ? There were a large number of staff and public who had come to council because the matter was on the agenda and published the required 72 hours before the meeting. If anyone knows the answer, I would like the explanation. Is there a recognized planning group in Mission Valley which took a vote and gave testimony ? What did the Planning Commission opine ?— May 23, 2010 10:07 a.m.

If a person details his/her family life in the SD Reader, a reasonable person might assume this information is in the public domain. I would suggest that anyone who has put this type of information into print might consider removing it or not disclose it in the first place as the SD Reader advises. Does the publisher cap the number of stories with photos and videos that any one non staff person can submit in a given pay period ? By my calculations some non staffers could earn as much as $2500 per month if they are prolific which seems likes a lot of money for a small publication's budget. I am also curious what staff earns versus non staff. It would seem that staff such as Mr. Bauder with his superior credentials would be given preference in terms of being printed. While the human interest stories have some appeal, they are far from professional in my opinion and need to be weighted in terms of how much any given non staff person appears in print. Before anyone sharpens their quills I am not suggesting curtailing First Amendment rights but merely asking how a small publication can support non staff contributions from prolific amateur journalists and still balance their budget.— May 23, 2010 5:41 a.m.

# 160 from DB response And Cheney has a heart like a Timex watch - "takes a licking and still keeps ticking." Sigh. Apparently he also knows how to eat pretzels and not choke. Sigh again. It is just that pesky duck shooting and his bad aim.— May 18, 2010 8:50 p.m.
Mavis Bilbray Clute died today
It is nice to end a life well lived on a positive note. Beating her sons at tennis well into her 60's says a lot about the competitive spirit of this woman and her athletic abilities. I looked for any other bios or articles (even though one was mentioned on this blog) but could only find one which I posted. Whoever wrote the obit did a great job. If someone has another life story, I think it would interesting reading. From what I have read, more people are living to be 100. Something to hope for ?— May 18, 2010 2:30 p.m.
