BLACKOUT: : The Best Thing That Ever Happened to PB?
I was a former PB resident who got older and moved to North County. I experienced the exact same thing up in suburbia with my neighbors and had the same exact observations of humanity. I got to meet neighbors that in years I never have. People unplugged from TV and the internet and were forced (initially) to conversate with family, friends, and strangers. Most stumbled on this opportunity by just going outside to see what their neighborhood looked like pitch dark with just the almost full moon casting light down on it. It was a surreal night for sure and I was sad when the lights came back on. I joked with one neighbor that I wish they would schedule this once a month. It definitely made me aware of how too plugged in we all are. I hope to remind myself to detach more often.— September 23, 2011 9:54 a.m.
Backyard Chicken Movement Scratches Around Ocean Beach
I prefer none of those noises, but some things cannot be escaped in modern society like your examples. Roosters can be. Go live in the country if you want roosters! Why does my peace and quiet get disrupted for you to have a farm in a urban area? I am sure my barking dog would not be satisfactory to others, so why bring a guaranteed noise nuisance??— July 13, 2011 12:54 p.m.
Backyard Chicken Movement Scratches Around Ocean Beach
Roosters going off at dawn all around ones home?? That's nuts!! Not in this day and age in a modern society.— July 13, 2011 11:06 a.m.
Ficus Trees on Jefferson Street to Get Axed
Those trees help make the Village what it is. They are beautiful giant trees and frame all the downtown businesses. Hope this gets appealed.— May 27, 2011 12:55 p.m.
Why Rotate Your Tires?
You must do it yourself I assume or have a shop you can trust. If you have the latter, please put out the rec cause the trial and error to find a good one is too darn expensive! Ha, ha. I always love the "3 oil changes for $30" ads I see. Whats that gonna cost me really???— January 25, 2011 12:20 p.m.
Why Rotate Your Tires?
I 100% agree Surfpuppy. I used to follow all the auto manufacturer recs for everything from tires to fluids to checkups. All I did was throw good money away on inevitable 'problems' that came back when I went in for something simple. The only thing I do regularly is change my oil and change tires when it gets to be that time. My 2001 Tahoe has 200,000 miles and no problems. I was told by Chevy dealer 3 years ago my AC belt was going to go 'any day' and it still works just fine. Bad, thieving mechanics have made it impossible to trust any of them! This article seems like a fluff piece for the 2 companies interviewed too.— January 25, 2011 11:20 a.m.
Cameras Lie
The $486 is what is insane! I do not care about the camera's if the cost were more modest, like $50-$75. Then it hurts, but we can pay it easier. Your not gonna want to rack up a bunch of $75 tickets, so it will deter you! The problem is $486 is going to break many people and make them angry. Too much.— June 29, 2010 12:16 p.m.
Frenchmen Street: A Bourbon Street for Locals
Frenchmen Street is about as authentic as it gets! I lived in New Orleans for a year and as much as Bourbon is good people watching and drunken fun, Frenchmen Street (in the area known as the Marigny) is the place for great music. Its music and ambiance that you dont just hear, but feel. Take a quick cab there from the French Quarter. There is a gap between the two areas and I would never recommend walking in New Orleans after dark if your not from there.— June 28, 2010 11:36 a.m.
A City Under Television Skies
Having lived in New Orleans for two years before moving back here this year, I can tell you anything goes there! Especially with guns. Everyone carries guns in their car and its legal. No permits needed. Anyone can carry a gun on them if you take a 2 hour class. I saw that YouTube and thought the same thing til I realized it was Louisiana. Odds are if a police man came by he would have gotten out, cracked a beer with them, shot a few rounds himself at the TV, and went back to work! It is a unique place for sure.— December 15, 2009 1:21 p.m.
My husband is slowly falling in love with San Diego
Funny thing, when did this convo turned all political?!? Stick to the story you bloggers! As for all the 'slammers' who say to us, who keenly observe the truths about SD, I can truly say that all the 'negativity' you espouse when you tell us to not let the door hit us on the way out, proves my point! It's hard for me to imagine you riding your bike in the sunshine peacefully when you have this much pent up aggravation to people speaking their mind! It tells me that you are the people I spoke about in that your rude and loud, but let me throw some other descriptors of SD'ers I have noticed...obnoxious, narcissistic, pretentious, self absorbed, immature, and mentally unstable. And these are the remains of the drug users and criminals that walk the streets every day and night. These are whats left....the best of the rest. Not all of you mind you (I am not that close minded), but way more in SD than most other cities in the US....in my opinion of course.— September 30, 2009 2:22 p.m.
