See you next year, September
I'm a bit surprised you didn't go straight for my flagrant use of "qua." Good little neo-Lacanian that I am.... ;)— October 1, 2009 1:58 a.m.
See you next year, September
It's been said that (because of the way we approach the world linguistically) our thinking is always metaphorical or metonymical. A combination of both factors is at play here, inasmuch as nothing is ever cut and dry, but this seems to be more of a metonymic line of thinking when some contiguous part (a pretty weld, a stunning medicine cabinet) is substituted for the greater whole (a solid molecular bond, a house built to last) which is either harder to understand than the simpler term, or quite inaccessible to begin with.— September 30, 2009 5:25 p.m.
Beyond the Catchy Jingle
Shnah, no genetic handicaps to be had. Anyone who loves flavor can learn to cook like an artist.— September 30, 2009 2:31 p.m.
Everybody always wants to throw glass in stone houses and, sooner or later, someone's going to lose an eye!
Was that a joke evoking Borges' tendency towards literary "forgery?"— September 30, 2009 2:29 p.m.

We're mere minutes from a K/S breakdown here. Heheh.— September 30, 2009 2:26 p.m.
There's No Cheating In Scrabble
Scrabble is deceptive because having a "great" vocabulary doesn't necessarily help you play Scrabble. I have a decent command of the English language, yet I am terrible at Scrabble. I just don't know how to strategize, or which words to play when. I don't know the "q without u" words, or any of the tricks of the game. It's a gameplay skill, not a vocabulary match. Best example of this: non-American Scrabble masters who are probably BETTER at Scrabble than native English speakers because they just see the words as pictures that you line up and make points with. I've only heard of this phenomenon--not being any sort of Scrabble fan--but seems perfectly reasonable. (My game is chess, bee-tee-dubs, so if anyone wants to get schooled on Chess.com, I'm ready for you!)— September 30, 2009 2:20 p.m.
Beyond the Catchy Jingle
I took Home EC and the teacher absolutely HATED me. Partly because I was a major PITA in those days, but also because a dude isn't supposed to be the best cook in the class.— September 30, 2009 12:10 p.m.

P: Is somebody knocking cyclists around here? Do I have to get the virtual u-lock out and do some damage?— September 30, 2009 11:06 a.m.

Fish: I help my friend out by working with the kids, not the friend. He's their teacher and in need of no coaching whatsoever. It just helps out to have extra adults around 20 or so screaming, hyperactive teenagers. All I do is talk to the scriptwriting team about developing their ideas into actual stories. It's chaotic, but fun. The kids are super creative and can really work like studio pros if you give them the chance, which my friend (by superhuman effort on his own part) does.— September 30, 2009 11:04 a.m.
Some Musings On Our Fast-Food Culture...
I had a busy day yesterday: going down to Chula Vista to help my roommate's after school project out with a little writing coachery, followed immediately by a furious night at the SD Velodrome. Lots of body hurt makes it hard to get on and write something. I'll try to exceed expectations later today ;) Anecdote--Yesterday, while hustling like mad to make it home in time to get costumed up and go ride bikes, I almost ate some drive thru to quell the absolute STARVATION that I felt most of the day. Didn't do it, though. 86 low grade foodstuffs in my diet.— September 30, 2009 9 a.m.
