Be careful: if you flounder when krilling, you risk losing your sole!— October 6, 2009 1:50 p.m.
October
Autumn is a bummer for everyone as the nights turn chill and the sun steals beneath the horizon several minutes ahead of itself with every passing day. The world is dying--a proto-apocalyptic scene spoiling an otherwise pleasant time of year--and it makes us all a little sad. For you, it's doubly awful and my hat's off to you for both dealing and sharing.— October 6, 2009 1:47 p.m.

The grunion run and you will follow to where the sky meets the sea and the tiny purple fishes run laughing through your fingers, carving deep blue ripples in the tissues of your mind.— October 6, 2009 1:42 p.m.

I have not read that story. I flogged my way through _Brief Interviews_ but got sort of burnt out on the unreadable bits. The guy was obviously a genius and some of his writing is absolutely phenomenal. There's a few stories in _Brief Interviews_ that can't be beat. A lot of the time, however, I get the sneaking suspicion that DFW is just being smart and trying to impress us with his impenetrable prose. Don't judge me too harshly for this.— October 6, 2009 11:58 a.m.

On Clickable Footnotes: I do not know how to code such a thing, but will try to learn so my posts look even MORE like a Wikipedia entry. On The Cost of Goats: My expertise in all things "For Sale" suggests that the $1-$100 price range indicates an eagerness, on the part of the seller, to rid him- or herself of the goats and a willingness to haggle wildly over the price. On Collaboration with Adam Over a Dude Book: Are you suggesting that we somehow become the Audobon of Dudes and create a field guide? On Why the Yah Dude! in Question Was Named "Blake:" Because Blake is a perfect name for a suburban, white male. He probably also has a tribal tattoo.— October 6, 2009 11:15 a.m.

It's the music these footnotes are listening to these days. Makes 'em do crazy things.— October 6, 2009 2:22 a.m.

I have just placed a hold on Cuppy with the San Diego public library. Very, very stoked about it. SD: Got a recommendation for something by Smithson? You've piqued my curiosity quite thoroughly on the matter and I feel obliged to follow through.— October 6, 2009 2:20 a.m.

Well, at least I wasn't not considering considering not footnoting my (considerable) footnotes....— October 6, 2009 12:14 a.m.
