Fight Over North Park Bar Spills Into the Streets
BSP Great clue! Here is possibly another: Someone that has been around for a long time, emailed me that Toni Atkins got this zoning "change" pushed through DSD, through her "Old Girl" contacts in DSD but I have no direct knowledge of that myself, although the timing seems correct. If this is indeed correct, it would account for the reason for the "mistake" and why it was never really addressed by the City Council or the City Attorney...— March 14, 2011 8:20 a.m.
Fight Over North Park Bar Spills Into the Streets
A Great question that demands an answer... Perhaps the Independent Budget Analyst (IBA) can explain to the City Council that all these problems are costing the City BIG money that it doesn't have... ==== Here are 3 more Great questions that demand answers: 1. Why did the entire question of the permit being granted IN ERROR in the first place, get buried in a bunch of legal mumbo jumbo; if the original permit was in error then why is the Planning Commission doing by allowing it to "stand"? 2. How did the original mistake get made; (i.e., Who made it, was it "Political" and or how was it made)? 3. Is the Planning Commission serving the public or just only those that appointed them; (i.e., How poorly does a Bar have to be to get it's hours of operation reduced by ONLY 4 hours a week)?— March 11, 2011 9:36 p.m.

Fight Over North Park Bar Spills Into the Streets
Bluefoot Bar and Lounge will not be allowed in stay open later on Thursday nights until 2 AM, or to increase their hours of service on their sidewalk area as they requested. That was a partial "win" for local residents, who had urged the Commissioners to roll back the Bluefoot's hours to midnight every night of the week or at least keep their hours as they were... + The Owners also know now know that they will be under increased scrutiny, so they must step up their Late Night security, meet with local residents to discuss local issues, and do a much better job of running their business or the next Planning Commission Hearing may really go against them and that is only about 700 days away...— March 11, 2011 12:58 p.m.
Fox Canyon Neighborhood Protests Governor’s Move to Eliminate Redevelopment Agencies
Well Said... I'd also add many of these "Just Neighbors" show up at Planning Meeting and push for less parking for Low & Low Mod. housing to make them less expensive to build but more BLIGHTING on the surrounding neighborhoods... The City should require anyone doing business with the City or the ReDev. Agency to disclose their connection at all meetings...— March 10, 2011 6:37 p.m.
Fox Canyon Neighborhood Protests Governor’s Move to Eliminate Redevelopment Agencies
Not all ReDev. is a scam, North Park is an example of how ReDev. money can be used without building Ball Parks... If more folks got involved and our Leaders started to think more about voters than their wealthy friends then ReDev. could be a great tool for making San Diego a much better place to live. That said, I've seen many ReDev projects get bloated because of City Mandated costs that seem to benefit only the City, but that will be small potatoes compared to the Mayor now having veto and or Project change control over the entire list of ReDev. Projects now thanks to the Cooperation Agreement between the City of San Diego and the ReDev. Agency. The City Council will have to approve any changes the Mayor makes but there are several Councilmembers on the City Council that will play ball with the Mayor so that is not really a problem. Expect to see much more money pour into Downtown and much more DENSITY-BLIGHT pour into Mid-City.— March 10, 2011 7:45 a.m.
Fox Canyon Neighborhood Protests Governor’s Move to Eliminate Redevelopment Agencies

It' s time
Great idea except that the City and the MWD both would stand to lose control of their bread and butter golden goose - Charging ever more for our Water... You might as well suggest that we install solar around the Salton Sea to power SD instead of spending Billions on the "Sunrise Link" and see what SDG&E's shareholders have to say about that of that... Face it, the people that live in San Diego will only see our Quality of Life decrease as the cost of living here starts to skyrocket. Managed Competition will only speed up the transformation, as our Leaders use it to fund our excessive pension fund debacle, which they also are looking forward too when they leave office. Think of us as another Hawaiian Island, a great place to visit and enjoy, if you have lots of money, but most of the locals are unable to get meaningful jobs unless they relocate or know someone in local Gov't... Looking at the Prop 13 "problem" from another angle, the City & County could multiply many times over the amount of Property tax they get, if folks moved every few years so that their property taxes reflected current market amounts rather than prices many years ago... How can they speed up the process, by making our older neighborhoods less fun places to live, by adding additional DENSITY and all the problems that go along with it. Enjoy SD while you can...— March 10, 2011 7:13 a.m.
Is Assembly Leader Toni Atkins Cashing in on Homelessness?
Excellent Story about a Great Deal for Toni Atkins & her partner! It's a sad state of affairs (no pun intended) when those "helping" the Homeless make more money than it would take to solve many of our Homeless issues and are in fact just helping themselves! Consider these questions: -- How many public bathroom are located in each Council District? -- How many shelters are located in each Council District? -- Where do these 5,000 folks "GO" at least several times a day? -- What is our Strong Mayor doing to solve this problem? -- What are our Councilmembers doing to solve this problem? -- Why aren't our Redevelopment Dollars being spent on solving these issues ASAP instead of "fluff" projects that benefit developers more than our citizens? -- Where are building public bathrooms on the City's Cooperation Agreement between the City of San Diego and the Redevelopment Agency? If you don't know the answers to all the above questions, ask your Councilmember and see if you get an honest answer...— March 9, 2011 11:37 a.m.
