Greenhouse gas plan inadequate
I suppose the same could be said of most of the condos downtown, very few of them have a view of the water, most just have a view of the condos across the street!— October 30, 2014 1:28 p.m.
Greenhouse gas plan inadequate
If telecommuting ever takes hold there will be quite a few office buildings that can be retrofitted to condos/apartments. Many with nice views of the harbor.— October 29, 2014 5:15 p.m.
Greenhouse gas plan inadequate
One thing that is never brought up in discussions about traffic/transit is increasing the amount of telecommuting. The infrastructure already exists including video conferencing on demand but employers still are stuck in the model that requires them to see the employee to determine if they are doing the work assigned. Many of the folks in traffic on the freeways could just as easily work from home if the employers would allow them. Employers need to figure out how to measure output not just time at a desk.— October 29, 2014 4:37 p.m.
General Atomics considers India
I suppose the Pakistani's will want some of this work as well so they can keep up with their nuclear neighbors. Didn't we used to have prohibitions on exporting military technology?— October 27, 2014 1:34 p.m.
General Atomics considers India
What a great idea! lets outsource our weapons manufacturing to India, what could go wrong?— October 27, 2014 12:52 p.m.
Keep budgeting, San Diego
I worked for the County of San Diego, I have no idea who Alex Clarke worked for.— October 23, 2014 4:36 p.m.
Keep budgeting, San Diego
Incidentally this article is about residents budgets not governments— October 23, 2014 12:20 p.m.
Keep budgeting, San Diego
I don't know what government you did your budgeting for but that's not how it worked for me. The budget office would come right back and tell you that you did not need that extra fluff and to take it out of your budget. If you could not show enough revenue to support your costs you had to cut till they balanced. We also did quarterly fund balance reports to show where we were on the budget during the year and if you were coming up short you needed to adjust to get back in balance.— October 23, 2014 12:18 p.m.
Kiteboarders take on Coronado
I think it was an island at one point until the strand was constructed to connect it to Imperial beach.— October 20, 2014 2:24 p.m.
Unemployment rate down, so are jobs
Don, that's the problem with most comparisons. Government as a rule does not have burger flippers, maids, or janitors so comparing private vs public on that basis really is apples to oranges. Most if not all of those type of jobs have been outsourced to contractors who pay minimal wages, and no benefits leaving the social safety net to make up the difference. The janitors cleaning the public buildings come back in the morning to apply for food stamps and medical coverage. As to the $130 K retired fireman, there are a few at the executive level making that kind of money and or have to work so much overtime due to understaffing. The average government employee does not retire at benefits anywhere near that figure.— October 19, 2014 12:26 p.m.
