NFL owners’ arrogance sinking football
"Most universities pay their head football coach more than they pay the president. My alma mater now has a head football coach whose total comp package totals about $2 million a year" In a state where we cannot afford to fund education we pay college coaches huge sums of money. I don't get it!— March 23, 2011 3:45 p.m.
San Diego Library Foundation Finds Funds
I hope that Faulconers quote is a typo. Without PRIVATE funds??? "This task must be completed without private funds. There will not be general fund money available."— March 23, 2011 3:19 p.m.
Imprudence Not Unconstitutional, Says Appeals Court
The city has been running a deficit for as long as I can remember. In the late 90's the city was $11M in the hole at year end. I remember commenting at the time that if the city couldn't balance the budget when the economy was booming what happens when there is a recession.— January 30, 2011 8:10 a.m.
Wall Street Traders Bring Home Far More Than Brain Surgeons
The stock is exchange is just one giant casino where everyone is gambling with other peoples money! The players make money no matter what happens with a stock & if they screw up really bad the Fed backs them up.— January 16, 2011 4:58 p.m.
Wall Street Traders Bring Home Far More Than Brain Surgeons
What is it that these traders do that makes them worth so much in salary/bonus? They produce nothing of value & get paid whether it's a win or a loss. If you listen to the WS Analysts they seem to be wrong more than right. Most of the trading on Wall St is done via computer, those guys on the floor are the buggy whips of this generation.— January 15, 2011 4:56 p.m.
Believe the Grand Jury. Do NOT Believe the Mayor's Office
Wouldn't the city have to sell off assets in BK? Torrey Pines golf course should bring about enough to bring the city into solvency. A city that can't provide basic services has no business running golf courses for the rich.— November 20, 2010 3:34 p.m.
Explore Mission Gorge by Foot, Bike, Skates, or Car
Jerry, any idea why the city does not keep the campground near Kumeyaey lake open except on weekends? They have full time camp hosts but are only open on weekends.— October 11, 2010 11:03 a.m.
UC Retirement Funds Face $20 Billion Shortfall
Retirement funds only work if you consistently pay into the funds. Once you start viewing the fund as a piggy bank you will get in trouble as the market goes through it's cycles. This is the same thing that happens to so called "rainy day funds" for stat budget. Once they get to a certain balance there is a clamor to return the excess to the taxpayers, then when it rains the fund is empty.— August 31, 2010 11:52 a.m.
And Here Are Employees Who Bought Years They Didn't Serve
Please note that all of these agreements were completed under Republican mayors (have we ever had any other kind?) so that they could underpay the pension funds and use the $ for their political and developer friends. Why does everyone keep blaming the unions?— August 26, 2010 12:50 p.m.
Get Used to Unemployment
If the consumer is 70% of the economy & we keep pushing wages downward why should we be surprised that the economy goes in the tank? Minimum wage workers don't buy new cars, houses etc. Average household income of $69k won't qualify you for a mortgage on any house in any SD neighborhood.— August 19, 2010 10:45 a.m.
