Rising Gas Prices Dampen Economic Recovery
Sorry Dave but your link does not work, it appears a password may be needed to access the data. The real question however is what are they using as total income for a typical user? If it's less than $25K or assuming less than 20 mpg that's not a reasonable number.— March 17, 2012 12:22 p.m.
Rising Gas Prices Dampen Economic Recovery
"For the typical consumer, spending on gas rose from 4.3% of total income in 2010 to 6.2% by early 2012. This equates to an extra $463 spent per person on auto fuel per year." Dave, I don't know where the % of total income figures come from but in order for spending on gas to equal 6.2% of total income the typical person would be making less than $25K per year. At 12,000 mi per yr a vehicle averaging 20 mpg would use 600 gal of gas at a cost of $4.37 per gal that equals $2,622 per yr. At $3.50 gal it's 2100/yr.— March 16, 2012 12:46 p.m.
County Proceeds With Effort To Streamline Planning Process
Dorian, can you tell us what the vote was? Which Sup's voted for & against, if any? Ms. Jacob was at a Community Council meeting just last week saying she was opposed.— March 1, 2012 2:03 p.m.

County Says High Price of OxyContin Is Causing Increased Heroin Use
The obvious question here is how were these addicts getting the Oxy in the first place? If they were using it they most likely stole it which would mean that price was not an issue.— February 22, 2012 3:16 p.m.
Mid-City Rapid Bus Project One Stop Closer to Construction
Does SANDAG think students live downtown & go to SDSU? Why does every bus in the city run through downtown? I see busses going into SDSU every day with only one or two people on the bus. There are whole sections of the city that do not have any bus service within a reasonable distance of where they live, why not serve them instead? Most SDSU students wouldn't be caught dead riding the bus!— February 18, 2012 3:58 p.m.
San Diego Gas & Electric Wants You to Pay for Its Negligence
The business theory is that investors risk their capital when they buy stock in a company. With SDGE the investors have no risk, the deck is stacked in their favor. No matter what the risk the ratepayers always pay the cost. Not only the cost of their incompetence but we also pay for discounts to SDGE employees for their utility costs. Imagine if government were to provide their employees a discount on their property tax. It's time to realize that excessive business profits are nothing more than a private corp tax on the public, particularly when the corp is a monopoly & customers have nowhere to go.— February 16, 2012 1:07 p.m.
Buyouts Didn’t Help U-T and Petco
I wish someone would ask Mitt how many jobs he has created with his $21M/yr income while being unemployed. If low tax rates for income earned from dividends, carried interest etc are supposed to allow the job creators to create jobs then he should have created quite a few since he quit his last job. The focus on short term profits over long term growth is killing this country.— February 1, 2012 4:21 p.m.
The Push for Community-Benefit Districts in Barrio Logan
"But the neighborhood is in the midst of a makeover." Sounds more like a "takeover" by the developers.— January 18, 2012 12:46 p.m.
Wanted: Public Hearings on SDGE's Planned Fleece Job
SDGE is the poster child for why public utilities should not be run by private companies. Holding ratepayers responsible for corporate neglect is the height of arrogance.— January 18, 2012 12:41 p.m.
