Non-union workers to blast project labor agreements today
If that is the case then unions are justified in pursuing labor agreements that help their members. That is their reason for existing.— October 10, 2013 2:17 p.m.
Non-union workers to blast project labor agreements today
Don, is there any evidence that developers would reduce the cost of an expansion of a convention center, library, football stadium if non-union labor was used? I suspect that any difference would just be added to the profit margins of the developers. This is what we see when manufacturing is offshored. Since we don't have access to their books it's impossible to tell.— October 10, 2013 1:20 p.m.
San Diego bicyclists get state protection from aggro drivers
dwbat, if I could get a ticket for driving to slowly would that not also apply to a bicyclist? I agree it could cause an accident, that's why cyclists should not do it as well. The general rule of the road is that slow moving vehicles should keep to the right.— September 27, 2013 2:11 p.m.
San Diego bicyclists get state protection from aggro drivers
I can legally drive my car down the road at 10 mph and back up traffic too, doesn't mean I should or that I should be surprised if other drivers are upset with me. What does "aggro" mean??— September 27, 2013 12:45 p.m.
How Goldsmith tries the Filner case on TV
I've been out of town on a road trip for most of July & part of August so I may have missed a few details in this story. I have heard people say that Filner's apology amounted to an admission of guilt, but I don't believe he ever said he had sexually harassed or assaulted anyone. Nor have I heard anyone say that the alleged victims asked him to stop, reported the incident to anyone including their supervisors, the Human Resources dept. at the time the incident occurred. If they did and no action was taken then the supervisors did not do their jobs. There are steps that have to be followed in these cases in order for action to be taken against the accused it does not appear that any of them were done. As to the credit card charges and requests for reimbursement of items purchased any accountant will tell you that these types of charges & requests come in all the time and generally are rejected if they do not meet the guidelines. This whole thing is reminiscent of the Mike Aguirre situation where the real power in the city was used to run him out of office.— August 18, 2013 10:09 a.m.

Unlike most retired congressmen Bob is actually lobbying for the City of SD not some oil company.— June 11, 2013 11:47 a.m.

San Diego Gas & Electric rates are nation's highest
Over two years ago the utilities were finally required to start reimbursing residential solar generators for any excess power that they generated. The final decision by the CPUC was to require them to reimburse at a rate of $.035/KWH. This is a pittance considering that they charge customers up to $.25/kwh for the same electricity. I have no incentive to conserve the power I generate at this low rate. In 2011 I generated an excess of 420 kwh for the year and received a grand total of abour $14.00 This past year I used all of the power I generated plus about 320 kwh of SDGE's power and my bill only went up by $21.— May 3, 2013 11:21 a.m.
San Diego Gas & Electric rates are nation's highest
tomjonston, I was being facetious with the Curiously comment. You have it exactly correct, it was a manufactured crisis. Dennis— May 3, 2013 11:14 a.m.
San Diego Gas & Electric rates are nation's highest
The Ca ISO (independent service operator) has some interesting graphs on it's website. This one shows the current available resources and the demand. Even without the nukes operating peak demand today is only about 75% of available resources. http://www.caiso.com/Pages/TodaysOutlook.aspx#Ren… A separate spreadsheet shows the alert history for the grid back to 1998, Curiously the highest alerts were generated during the Enron debacle. http://www.caiso.com/Documents/Alert_WarningandEm… That period was enough for me to decide that going solar was in my long term interest.— May 2, 2013 1:23 p.m.
