Across the great divide: Conservative U-T San Diego partners with San Diego CityBeat
Monaghan, As entertaining as your comments are, I feel the need to step in, lest someone take them seriously. I'm not sure how much money you think CityBeat got from the U-T on that story, but I can tell you it wasn't nearly enough for me to sell any of my principles. I would need at least a couple hundred bucks for that! As nice as it is to put a little extra dough toward the paper's bottom line, the point here was to get the story out to more eyeballs, and for CityBeat to get credit for it. The U-T would have followed up with its own story had we not written one for them, and we wouldn't have gotten the web traffic. Let's keep in mind that the important part of this is the story itself: the court spending nearly $1 million on car allowances while drastically reducing public services. The more people who see it, the better the chance the court will get pressured into ending the practice. Dave Rolland— September 26, 2012 5:37 p.m.

Walter, obviously this is intended to be satire, but you don't indicate that anywhere. Please add a note somewhere that tells your readers that this is a satirical column. Just so your readers know, the quotes attributed to me here are made up. I never said these things. I like good satire as much as the next guy, but I don't want readers thinking this stuff is true. Also, it's "CityBeat," not "City Beat." David Rolland Editor San Diego CityBeat— January 27, 2010 3:33 p.m.
Episode I: The Combs Wars
I know you guys at the Reader aren't into traditional journalistic conventions -- like attempting to contact the subject of your story -- but if you had, you might have learned that Seth is actually CityBeat's arts and culture editor, not a "contributing" editor. Seth might have also told you that everyone at CityBeat loved Deez's song and retweeted it all over the place.— October 28, 2009 2:22 p.m.
Does Channel 4 Only Want Establishmen Sopranos?
Hey, Don, I too am interested in why Channel 4 will broadcast only the shows with Kittle, McClain and Warren. I suspect it's because that's the way Kittle wants it, and I believe he's tight with the honchos at Cox. Buy I'm equally interested to know why you omitted my name when relating the contents of Hank Crook's e-mail. Are you deliberately misleading your readers? My name was, in fact, the first name Hank mentioned in the list of editors he thinks should be shown on Channel 4. Do you not want to draw attention to CityBeat for competitive reasons? Feel free to e-mail your response to me at [email protected]. Also, I would love it if Jim Holman were to appear on the radio show. I'd love the chance to discuss gay rights and abortion with him. Cheers. David Rolland Editor San Diego CityBeat— September 28, 2007 10:15 a.m.
