The Cinephile Jew and His Christian Sidekick Come Under Fire
Dolores seems a tad teste... can't say as I blame her; even in death, Bob Hope is still ignoring her. Many things from my childhood I don't remember. But in 1975, I was one of the first minority students to intergrate my school district. I remember most of the events from my kindergarten year; the stares, the epithets, the total isolation from classmates and teachers alike, the open hatred from other parents that was accepted at that time. I'm probably close to the mark when I state that "name withheld" never had to deal with being discriminated against because of race, color, or creed. Well, "name", until you've walked a few hundred miles in our shoes and actually felt the sting of racism several times over, keep your ignorance and opinions to thy own self. Don't pollute the air with your AIDS. As in acquired intelligence deficiency syndrome.— December 29, 2011 8:25 p.m.

25 Titles Added to National Film Registry
Wow... where to begin? "There are scenes that to me are obscene. Who do I call when Forrest Gump starts running?" - John Waters Nice to see my favorite WGN "Family Classic" to make the list - must have seen "War Of The Worlds" forty times. Then they'd follow it up with "When Worlds Collide" and we'd see the same stock footage repeated - way to go, Pal! "Stand And Deliver"? "El Mariachi"? Sounds like they're trying to win barrio votes - last good Hispanic feature to make the cut was "El Norte" in 1995. Fred Astaire called the "Jumpin' Jive" number (featured in the video) "the greatest movie musical sequence he ever saw". Enough said - hoping the home movies will make a DVD soon. "Porgy And Bess" remains the only Sammy Davis Jr. movie I have not seen in my life. Come on Gershwins - there's a boat dat's leaving soon and you're not on it! Release it already!— December 28, 2011 2:14 p.m.
The Ten Worst Films of 2011
"Extremely Loud" is slated for a nationwide release on January 20, 2012. I foresee pulling an "Uncle Fester" at the cineplex: http://www.flickr.com/photos/93779577@N00/5548068…— December 28, 2011 1:51 p.m.

Review: Being Elmo: A Puppeteer's Journey
During a lull in the conversation at a mini-reunion of college buddies, a friend of mine blurted out. "I want to kill Elmo". Some laughed, but knowing my friends' serious tenor and look, I knew he wasn't kidding. "You want to murder a Muppet? Why?" "Elmo took the place of Grover." he coolly replied. "Grover was the real deal."— December 26, 2011 1:57 p.m.
Cliff's Notes on Lickona & Marks' Joy to the Screen
What? No shots of Der Bingle in blackface in "Holiday Inn"? I demand a hearing! And is there an online version of the cover story? Need something to read while sitting on the throne!— December 23, 2011 3:48 p.m.
Review: The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo
My wife (a fan of the books) is getting the original Swedish version on DVD for Xmas. Is this a mistake?— December 23, 2011 3:45 p.m.
Disney Rakes in the Hanukkah Gelt
