Sweetwater land deals — the beef goes on
I believe that everything should be in a holding pattern until the new board takes office. There is no need to move forward with anything long-term, controversial, or that is not a complete necessity for students. I was at the meeting and there were constant references to directives, plans, and strategies. The people who approved those directives, plans, and strategies are now gone. The new board and superintendent will decide how we move forward in the future. I am not sure if the current plan is the best use of the district properties. I see many other options that can and should be explored. The district mentioned that mistakes and miscalculations were made that led us to this point. It is easy to make mistakes with other people's money. We cannot allow this to continue in the future. I do not know if the process to this point was lawful, but it does not appear that it was appropriate. As a board member I will use my position on the board to strongly advocate for a complete review of the current property plans and the start of a new process to determine the best use of each property the district owns. That is why I believe it is crucial the district does not move forward with the Eastlake lease. The community has shared some great ideas and we should listen. The school district belongs to all of us, and we live and work in the communities that these dealings affect. When elected I will also immediately ensure that Mr. Diamond is issued a directive that he is no longer restricted from talking to the public about what he refers to as the "economics" of his contract/deal. These are deals with public money and should be public. He will not be able to use the district as a shield from answering the valid questions about his intentions. I am the only candidate coming out and taking public positions on these complicated and extremely important issues. It is essential that we vote for candidates who have made their positions and intentions crystal clear and have a track record of strong values and transparency. I encourage anyone to reach out and contact me. I believe in open communication and I am happy to talk with anyone. That is the way I have always been, and that is what you can expect after I am elected to the school board.— July 23, 2014 8:06 p.m.

Yes! I was at the June board meeting. I wasn't able to make the meeting last week because I was teaching but I will be at the meeting on property tomorrow.— July 20, 2014 8:08 p.m.

You're very welcome. Thank you for taking the time to listen (or read). I would be open to a forensic audit. That will be an important decision that the new board will make.— July 19, 2014 9:30 p.m.

We don’t want the stinkin’ charter expansion
I believe we need to find out what happened in the past, complete an assessment of where we are at in the present, and layout a road map for where the district will go in the future. I am supportive of a complete and comprehensive independent audit that is fully shared with the public. After the first comprehensive audit I would like to see at minimum an independent financial audit completed and shared annually. I want to look into making more documents available online and ensuring that all documents are made available online at the same time they are available to the board. These are public documents and the public has a right to easily and fully access them. I would also like to examine streaming and archiving board meetings online. It seems like this could be accomplished at minimal cost with the district's current resources but provides another way for the public to remain informed and involved. The board and the school district does the public's business and when doing the public's business it should be done in full view of the public. Transparency isn't a buzz word it is a culture. That is the type of culture we will develop at the district.— July 19, 2014 10:26 a.m.
We don’t want the stinkin’ charter expansion
A change in culture is coming. We will end all of these issues that focus on adults, and put the focus back on decision-making that is in the best interest of the students, at all levels of the district.— July 18, 2014 9:35 p.m.

I believe you are correct, people who do not represent/live in our community should not be voting to raise taxes. The alleged Brown Act violations that are being rumored are extremely concerning. As the Chula Vista Board of Ethics Vice-Chairman I take the Brown Act very seriously and have to follow it myself. Recently, I sent an email to the full board and received a response from one of the board members who had copied the entire board. I responded to only the board member and told that person I had removed the other board members from the email follow up so there were no concerns about a serial meeting in possible violation of the Brown Act. We need board members who understand the law and hold the internal values and integrity to follow it, avoiding even the appearance of impropriety.— July 18, 2014 9:16 p.m.

A while back I was looking at the Haven houses directly across from this location and the signs in the area, and what I was told by the realtor, seem to confirm what you are saying. It is a stones throw from High Tech High Chula Vista where I coach basketball. Very close to the university land and where the Millenia project is being built.— July 18, 2014 9:06 p.m.

I believe Hawking wanted to expand to 7th and 8th grade this school year but they did not have enough students register in order to be able to.— July 17, 2014 11:48 a.m.
